thanks for the post! I had rated my dash clock repair as a pretty low priority, but now, knowing how easy it is I think I'll give it a try this weekend! Anyone else have their brake (light out) idiot come on intermittently? I'm thinking of taking a look at the unit in the wheel well (if that's where mine is) and see if there's anything obvious wrong, I hope the problem is there and not buried in the dash. Happy New Year! -Dok

So, I scored a couple of sets of tires and wheels today, turns out the guy from Craig'slist was wrong about there being much tread left on the subie rims he had (off white 8 spoke 87's), BUT he had the same size tyres on some Toyo 5 spoke rims. So, now I've got rims that will do for now and free up two of my existing rims for spares, but the tires I have are on the Toyo rims. So, (sorry I'm long winded, but hell, I enjoy a story so hopefully you do too) I was checking Les Schwab's website to see what they charge to swap them over (anyone know?) and came across tire siping, I was thinking they'd probably swap my tires over for free if I had this done. I had never heard of this before, but it makes sense and from what I can tell from some web research it's a very good thing. Any opinions? stories? better yet anyone know what it costs? -Dok PS Anticipating a question and a suggestion here, the Toyo rims are plain-Jane steel.

thanks, that's where I was headed. They currently have quite a few earlier models, two wagons my era ('87) FYI they charge $40 for a hatch. Didn't really see anything noteworthy out there, but (as usual) I was pressed for time, and although it wasn't raining it was getting dark. I'll be headed out there again very soon, if anyone wants me to keep an eye out for anything in particular... -Dok

yeah, it was across the street, it was raining and i was in a hurry to get to work but it did look silver-ish, at the time i thought it was metallic light blue with some stripes, but i was in a hurry it did have some denting on the drivers side fr. fender, but it looked like it was just the fender that took the hit, doubt it did anything to the frame... -Dok

I'm headed up to Lynnwood PAP today but was wondering if you folks wouldn't mine clueing me in to other U-Pull-It style or subaru specific places in Washington. A long time ago when I lived in Cali, UPullIt used to have specials pretty frequently where either doors or hoods would have a ridiculously low price like $10. I was thinking of replacing my hatch on my 87 gl wagon as the defroster doesn't work, but Aaron's here in Seattle wants $175 for a hatch! ouch. I've got a good eye and will post any juicy bits or vehicles I see, and doubt I will be taking anything other folks will be needing, I know sometimes people feel like the junkyards they go to are their own little secret... thanks, -Dok

I was at Aaron's in seattle this morning, I was in hurry- had to pick my half shafts before getting to work, but I did notice that they have a T-top brat in their yard. It looks a little rough, but I've rebuilt worse. Didn't get a chance to check the year, or peek under the hood, but other than a dent in the drivers side front fender and missing it's left front wheel, it appeared intact. It was positioned at the front of their lot, where I think they put the vehicles that are potentially rebuildable. Thought someone might want to know. -Dok

I was planning on doing a jeep style swing arm on back as well (i'm all about redundancy!), as far as the looks rollin' thru the CD goes...I would shave it so it was only the bulge getting rid of that fake wire wheel looking stuff the conti has on it... where'd you get the rear mount for only 15 clams? -Dok

I had a similar idea (amongst the many mod's I want to do!) there is at least one 80's american boat of car that has a tyre shape formed into it's rear decklid, I was thinking of getting one of these from a junkyard and cutting that part out and fabbing it into the existing hood... -Dok

hmmm.... the bigger tires made it sluggish? that's a good point i hadn't considered, kind of like the opposite of putting alloys on, isn't it? it would increase the rolling resistance. I'm still trying to find the proper balance for mostly city driving, but with some off-roading... thanks again everybody! -Dok

sorry, hit return and that posted! she's a dual range 4wd, 5 spd thanks for the welcome! after about 5 years of getting around by bicycle (including from Bellingham to Mt St. Helens), I've spent the past year and a half researching what kind of vehicle I was going to get, and what I was going to do to it. The Subaru was the clear winner, and just the model I was looking for fell into my lap! I've been to the Hatch Patrol website several times, I may take you up on the offer... thanks again, -Dok

2 or 4WD? It will make a difference. Welcome to the board and just so you know, there are probably 30+ members from Washington.

So, I finally got my dream car (until I can afford to have two, then it'll be the Brat!) an '87 Gl with 165,000, for a steal. Anyway, it's time for some new tread (amongst other things) and I'm trying to decide on what kind of rubber to put on her. What I'm wondering is, if 185/80/R13's scrape against the wheel at all? muchas danke's -Dok
