  1. well...i plan to keep the car for 200k+ miles, using synthetic oil and strict maint as i did with my accord, i'm not a racer... so i don't need super power, but i do want to pass trucks on 2 lane mountain roads. i'm hoping to get $13k for my honda so that is what i want to put back into a subaru
  2. a quick preface: i have a cherry accord with fresh paint that i didn't want to drive on winter roads, bought a 92 (195k) legacy. just made a 4 hr trip for the weekend, blizzard conditions both way...and...well i fell in love! now i'm selling the accord, and going to buy a newer Subaru, and i need to pick your brains! i'll be looking for not older than 98. i want all the goodies, what package should i look for, what engine and all that stuff, outback or forester? thank you for your learned opinions and expertise
  3. hi.. i just bought this 92 legacy,(194K) the seller said it needed transmission service, when i swapped everything over to synthetic lubricants i drained the transmission, it took 4 quarts of synth ATF to top off, i just checked with local tranny shop and he said it has a screen filter, so i was going to run it a bit, drain and refill with synthetic and call it good, since a screen filter probably will be good. does anyone see any flaws in this plan? thanx
  4. moisture is normal in an engine, as engine warms cool air pulled in condenses, most should evaporate off, but if some remains it can mix with oil and form that funky milky stuff, which contains acids that can attack bearing surfaces. saw a classic example in an engine running on propane (runs real cool), after new bearings changed to synthetic oil (Amsoil) synthetic oil doesn't react with water to form the funk
  5. i don't know if this will help, i had a similiar problem on a vehicle with automatic transmission, a pinhole in vacum diaphram, it would allow atf into vacum line then under certain conditions (high vacum at idle, certain angles or turns) it would suck the atf into intake manifold causing rough running and huge amounts of smoke. i didn't notice any atf consumtion, finally figured it out by putting a Q-tip into vacum line and saw pink. dunno if subie has vacum diaphram or not
  6. i'm troubleshooting my air suspension, no air, found a bad relay got the compressor running, the back pumped up, front wont. has to be something common to both front shocks...does anyone know the location of the height sensors
  7. i just bought the car, two of the struts have been replaced as well as the compressor, i like the suspension and one strut is cheaper than converting all four. when it works, it works well...makes me think it is a simple problem
  8. I am getting ready to put synthetic oil in my 92 legacy, throughout, honda doesn't recommend synthetic ATF, does anyone know if subaru automatic transmissions are fussy?
  9. I'm trying to troubleshoot my air suspension, and it's difficult to find information. I have read previous posts, and learned a bit. the problem is intermittent. will one bad shock cause the the front to drop? sorry...this is a 92 legacy
