  1. I got one of these: http://www.carbontrix.com/vents.htm The 18 x 10 inch hood vent and it it looks cool and fits on the 19 inch wide center hump perfectly. But when I bought mine, it was $65. $99 is getting kinda pricey.
  2. No, I didn't supercharge my RX. My heater fan blower was making an awful racket, shaking the whole car at highest speed and I wasn't getting any airflow. So I figured it was going bad, and that I needed to replace it. I got a great deal on one from Hattori Hanzo who pulled it from a wagon he was parting out, and shipped it right away. Pulled the old one and found this: A bunch of leaves and straw and stuff - and yes, it is off balance by a lot. I think it was somebody's nest. Anyway, dumped it out, pulled what I could out of the vent, and put it back in. Quiet and good airflow. So now I need to put this other blower motor up for sale, I guess....
  3. I had spied this thing out of the corner of my eye going through Gainesville on 29, and finally stopped to inquire. I think it is an 89. Here's the good and the bad. Bad - 3dr body is close to a total loss. It smacked something up front, and the front was in the bushes, so I couldn't see the full extent of the damage. Looked like the headlights are busted and the front of the hood is beaten up. A grille, maybe not the original, is under the hood in the spare tire well. I think creases in the front fenders, maybe not. Elsewhere, I don't think I saw a single panel that didn't have some rust on it. The rear and rear fenders were holed. Good - The interior was very clean, but no radio and the front seats were in bad condition with some Kmart seat covers on them. Looked under the hood, and it appeared to be quite clean. I talked to the owner, and he said the drivetrain - engine and transmission - was all new. Not sure what that means, but it did look clean, and had the dual range shifter (with the different shifter, just an L without a knob). The body kit was okay except I didn't see the front air dam. I think it had all 4 white hubcaps in good condition. The ugly - the guy wanted $600 for the whole car. I think that is a little steep, but if the drivetrain is really new or even remanufactured, it might be okay. I suspect the guy will take less. I think the car has been in this lot for about a year. If anyone is interested, it's at Carter's Automotive on 29 across from the new Shopper's Food Warehouse in Gainesville.
  4. 195/50-15 is just about exact diameter as stock RX tires 185/70-13 (?) I currently have some 205/60-15's on pugs that didn't rub at a rally-x.
  5. I could use those pics. I took some of the front part, I neglected the side.
  6. No pic yet, but I think I have a vac problem - when I disconnect the hose from the vac reservoir, I don't get any flow. Here is how the hoses are hooked up. From the nipple on the intake manifold, a hose connects to the bottom of the turbo control solenoid (I think that is what it is). The vac reservoir line tees into a line, and that line tees into the intake snorkel at the turbo inlet. This appears to be the way it was hooked up before, but the Hayne's manual doesn't show the vac lines.
  7. See if your belt covers are melted. If they aren't, the overheat wasn't all that extreme.
  8. I think is on the right track - somewhere in the vacuum. The canister is hooked up, but I may not have those lines right. I will get a pic and see if we caqn diagnose this.... Thanks.
  9. But not resistor. 1989 RX, so the EA82 push button controls. Car has been sitting about 10 months, and I just swapped the motor. The blower works on all positions. But pushing the heater button, the heat comes from the dash, not the floorboard. Same with defroster. Any ideas?
  10. Did not drive it, but I did go for a ride. My estimate is that it is as high as a moderately jacked up Wrangler, but it rides significantly better than any Wrangler I've been in. The tire lugs make a lot of noise, but the WOT trhottle sound is something you have never heard from a Subaru before. I woulda taken some front shots on the road, but my passenger was 2, not much of a photographer. And I have this thing about facing forward while driving.
  11. I have a brand new cable rump roast'y. But tell Ben to keep the grill off the wagon!
  12. Can't reach up under the bumper - just cuts the back of my hand on the AC condenser. Can't reach the little clickie thing with any sort of remote tool. I think clantieri's solution may be the way to go.
  13. Cable to the hood latch on my 89 RX just broke. Anybody know a secret way to get the hood open? Thanks.
  14. I wonder how many threads of this title there are. My 89 RX is running again. But then again, my 89 RX is no longer running. Huh? I took the motor out of the rear RX (it's an auto) and put it in the front RX. With mucho help from subarubrat on wrenchturning, muscling, and not being stupid (hint - if the shifter is in neither HI nor LO, you got nothing). Just a few cleanup items and it is ready to rally-X again.
