Well call me crazy or stupid. cause thats what most of my friends are callin me. but i dont care. This is the story of young stupid kid from vancouver, WA that loves subarus. I bought my lovely money pit about a year ago. Bought it for $800 it was a fairly nice subaru too. It is a 87' subaru wagon gl 5spd 4x4 duel range less then 200,000 miles. It had some nice calmaster rims that were nice and shiny. really made it look good. Well, i really wanted to make this subaru a nice one. since it would be my car for the next couple of years. So i went and got a whole new exhaust system for it. 2 1/2" turbo magnaflow exhaust. $600 ya i know ouch. but it was worth it considering i had over a dozen exhaust leaks. and got a new oil pump and water pump and t- belts. Then i saved some money up and got all the windows tinted. Yeah it looks really nice now. well not even a week goes by when my head gasket blows. oh great. well General Disorder and myself and a friend work on it and get it fixed and squared away in a week or so. ran great all the way home and to work the next day. then what happens. go to start it and it makes a really loud cranking noise and dosnt start. damn now what? intake valve got stuck open due to the machine shop that plained my heads not cleaning it properly. Basically that engine is fried, never to be started again. Call up general disorder, he hooks me up with a motor that supposedly works great. ran when the guy wrecked it. ok awesome so just do a motor swap. well when i got the motor it had a big gouge in the oil filter, from the fan supposdly hitting it from the wreck. But hey it ran when it got hit must be good. WRONG! spent 2 weeks trying to put the motor in(cause it was my first time doing something like this.) and what do i find out. The piston rings are toast. So motor is fried. mechanic says it was probally driven without oil for a couple of miles. when i started it up it sounded like someone with a sledgehammer pounding away. So now i am getting a imported motor from a shop and having then install it since i dont have time too for $1800. RRRRRRRR!!! fraustrating!@$*& Keep in mind that i am going to school and work at a minmum wage place. so i dont have money or time. and now in debt. So why do you ask am i spending this much effort and time and money in this car? that is still to be answered. So here is the estimated cost of everything: car: $800 maintanence(water pump, t belts, etc.) $270 exhaust: $600 tint: $175 head gasket set: $80 altenater: $65 labor (stuff i didnt know how to do): $250 new engine: $1800 Tires and misc parts: $150 ------------------------------------------------------------ total cost: $4190 upcoming purchases: lift lights tires and wheels a $5000 1987 subaru wagon ladies and gentelman.

thanks for all the response. Sorry i couldnt get back to you sooner. Yeah like GD said compression test probally would help. i'll be avalibvle anytime after 3:30. call me for directions. (360)513-8905. GD nows more about the engine itself then i do. he gave it to me. i just hooked stuff up to the best of my abillity. i'll probally change the oil pump over tomorrow. If anyone else thinks they know whats wrong please help. I think i'll even chip in a award to anyone that can get it started and runnin. say $50 and a dinner?

so general disorder came by today and helped me time everything. so my engine is timed and so is the disty. still wont start. turns over and cranks but has a grinding noise. almost like theres no oil. hmmm... changing oil pump tomorrow hopefully that does something. any suggestions?

hmm a name well i have a few. 87' subaru wagon (white) saaammmmaaanntthhaaaa! gota say the name like that all streched out and stuff. My friend gave it that during my single days. Naomi- always wanted to date a girl named that but looks like that wont happen. The honey Bucket- random sticker of the honey bucket company on the dash when i bought it. lol and more recently: the little wagon that could. due to my stubberness i will not let my wagon die. i have already done head gaskets and new motor. i wont give up in till that wagon is purring like a kitten. (which currently is not) so maybe i should name it the little wagon that couldnt...?

Does anyone have any free time today? or tomorrow? I put a ea82 in my 87' carbed subaru. Now it wont start. i hooked everything up properly as far as i know. but i could be wrong. It cranks but the whole passenger side of the motor acts like it wants to jump out of the car. Engine is timed, I dont really know how to time my disributer. I read the intructions from the manual but i am more of a visual learner and i guess i could not figure it out. so may be its just that my disributer is not timed. who knows. But i am willing to pay anyone $100 cash if they get my car started and running. I am just so tired of trying and failing. here is my number please call from directions. (360)513-8905 i live in vancouver washington.

arghhhh! ok now that i got some of my frustration out. heres my story if you dont know it already. 87' subaru carbed ea 82 Blew up my motor. So i got some help from General Disorder. He hooked me up with a free fuel injected ea 82 block that came from a wrecked soobie. carb system bolted right up so the fact that it is a fuel injected motor does not even really matter. Ok so i am now done connecting everything. i go to start it up and it doesnt even crank! so i am thinkin dead battery or starter. cause electrical is not an issue on these carbed ea82 systems. So i go to jump start it with my truck and nothin! and when i went to jump start i wanted to see if it would arch by tapping the two ends of the cables together and there wasnt a arch. so dead battery right? but my dash and inside lights work. and the battery volt indicater says 12amps. So may be its my starter? I know that when my motor blew up it happned in the middle of me trying to start it. So being stupid i kept on cranking on the ignition. so i think i might have burned out my starter... not sure though. What do you guys think? please help. and if its my starter does anyone have a general price for these? I really wanted to start my car today but no luck. may be next time. thanks p.s. what happned to you general disorder? I need your help man.

Alright i really really want a custom made roof/luggage rack for my 87 subaru wagon. but i need some inspiration. although i have a general idea of what i want i would love to see some pics of other peoples custom luggage racks, preferably with off road lights. I was also wondering if anyone knew how to install off road lights to the stock ea-82 front bumper. I want two of them in the center. but i cant figure out how to blot them on there. do i need to cut? or take off the bumper? has anyone done this and would like to share there thoughts? Hopefully with the help of some welders i can make my luggage rack a possibility.

well i might as well throw my .02 in as well. Sell the car. you might be able to get a grand for it, since it is in a nice condidtion may be more. then go out and buy a 4wd wagon/sedan for around $500 to $800 and lift the piss out of it or turn it in to a nice rally car. that is what i will be doing with my wagon soon. i'll post pics in a week or so. -

87 4 door GL -help- what to do?
yodannyc replied to Tyler_Seattle's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hey man i am there with ya that would look pretty cool. When i got my sooby i didnt know a thing about them. But they are easy cars to learn about and very fun cars. i have a 87 subaru wagon with a ea-82. I want to lift it, but i am doing work on the engine first to make it more powerful. Suggestions: weber carb 32/36 new exahust or gut our your cat to make it straight pipe oh and make sure you watch that temp gauge. cause when i bought mine i didnt and it blew a head gasket and warped my heads. in fact that is what i am workin on right now. hopefully it will be done by wedsday :-\ anyways they are really good cars. my suggestion on the 4wd is to just sell the one you have now and take that money and get another one with 4wd they are inexpensive cars so i am sure you can find one that you'll like. Wagons are cooler anyways -

What do you think? should i replace my engine?
yodannyc replied to yodannyc's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks everyone for the replys and helpful suggestions! i think i am just going to do the HG's and keep the motor i have. considering that its just a baby. it only has 180,000 miles on it. Where could i find a EA-82 for $200? i have called all of the junk yards i know of and i only found one for $500. I think myself, Generaldisorder and a friend will tackle the project on Sat. hopefully i will be up and running in no time! -
