What tires do I need for my Outback lift project???
Ok I have the lift kit from Allied Armament, bought the KYB GR-2 struts, just bought some King lift springs, and have an original subie skid plate. Any suggestions on tires? I have an extra set of 15" Alum Legacy rims that came with my Outback so I would like to have one set of street tires and one set of off-road tires. I want the biggest one's I can get without them rubbing, and without having to bangup my subie. Also where is the best place to buy strut mounts and are there any skid plates available for my diff and oil pan? Pics will follow when the work begins!!!!! Thanks

Anyone replaced a remote module in an Outback?

It has the programming reset button up in the wiring, but not box like what was in my 97. i was kinda hoping it was easy plug in but there are a ton of wires up there.

Anyone replaced a remote module in an Outback?
I would like to switch out my remote module from my old 97 Outback to my new 96 one. Both have power locks. I see the module under the dash. Is it hard to remove and rewire? Bunched of wires not sure if i'm getting myself in over my head. Any suggestions?

I looked in the same area as you, bought 1 for $3,000 off of craigs list and saw many others well under $4,000. 96,97,98, and 99 Outbacks are pretty much the same. Saw plenty in ebay that were in this area too. Just missed on a 98 Legacy wagon that went for $3,200, only had 110,000 on it. And this was just this week and last week. So I'm not sure what the problem is. If you only buy from dealers you will pay a premium and those cars are as likely to be duds as any are. If you don't know cars, pay the extra $50-75 to have it looked at by a mechanic. Well worth the money and a great negotiating tool. The car I was looking at was listed at $4,100 originally, he was asking $3,600 when I looked at it, I offered $3,000 cash and that was that. Mileage Question
mtnbob replied to doodleallday's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAs far as mileage I get 22mpg with my 97 Outback, but I drive fast and hard:grin: I think Outbacks are very reliable as long as you do a timing belt change every 100k and oil every 5k or so. I had my tranny flushed when I bought it because my mechanic felt it had some slight torque bind. Now almost 200,000 miles later its still going fine, over 274,000 on the car and tranny, only about 100,000 on current engine due to a wreck that damaged my radiator without me noticing till too late.

All gaskets redone 4-5000 miles ago by Subaru mechanic. Timing belt done at 110,000, with receipts for all parts. Zero oil leaks, no torque bind, body in near perfect shape for the age, interior above average, ice cold air, and it came with an extra set of 15" Subaru aluminum rims. $3,000.00

Different Tires and AWD

Many times I've had to purchase a used tire or two to get by, and I have mixed different sizes and wear levels. I currently have over 273,000 miles on my awd the auto transmission in my 97 Outback. When I could afford it of course, I have tried to keep them all them same, but it never seems to work out. Just wanted to throw that out there:eek:

After seeing Nippers good looking "Blue", I didn't want to install my new A.A. lift kit on a beater. So I bought an identical better looking "Green" Outback more worthy of the transformation into my offroad warrior. I have the lift kit, struts, and skid plate, now if I could just find a deal on the scorpion springs...... Oh and a off road front bumper!

mtnbob replied to mtnbob's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell i bought the car. it had 155,000 miles on it. tranny was fine. headgasket and numerous other gaskets and seals were replaced 7,000 miles ago, by subaru mechanic, showed me all the receipts. engine wasn't perfectly clean but dry as a bone everywhere. oil, tranny fluid and coolant looked fine. told him 3000 was highest I'd go and he accepted it. he was asking 4100 a month ago, went down to 3600 last week and I felt it was worth 3000. body was in good shape, no rust, no dents. looks identical to my other outback, cept its not all beat up. time to sell my old one i guess:(

Help!! Looking at an Outback in a few hours Few Questions about Headgaskets
I'm looking at a 1996 Outback in a few hours and It had the headgasket and valve cover gaskets replaced a year ago, supposedly by a Suburu mechanic after hours. It is the identical car as mine pretty much 96 vs 97 but I'm worried about the damage that might have been done by a headgasket blowing or shoddy repair. It has 155,000 on it and its an auto 2.5 . Also how to you check for the torque bind problem? Any help would be appreciated!!

Would the lift kit I got for my 1997 Outback wagon fit a 1996 Legacy wagon? I purchased a lift kit and struts for an Outback, and now I see a Legacy in much better shape that I can buy. Does anyone know if they share the same components?
