Could just be a crappy carb. My hicrappy even after pro rebuild never really ran right and i know it wasen't vacum because i only have three. Cat is poked out and i would only get 22mpg at best. Put on my rebuilt weber and i am up at 32mpg on the highway and 30 in town .( as long as i keep my foot off the secondarys all the time) Im still doing fine tuning so i think i can get a little better. I love the sound with the 2 inch air filter i put on. Allmost sounds like a four barrel when i stomp it! Can allso cruse around in fourth gear in town without lugging. In fith gear at 75 mph I can still pick up speed going up hill. I could go on about how much better my 86 wagon runs now but anyone who has done it knows what i meen! Does anyone know if freer flow exhaust helps gas milage with a weber?

Just wondering if any of you that put webers on had to change ignition timming? If so what did you set it at. When i had the hicrappy carb on my 86 4x4 ea82 i could advance it way up ( only way it ran right) now with the weber 32/36 tuned in if i have it set where i had it for the hicrappy the valves ratte like a snake but if i turn it way back it dosent rattle but im losing some power up hill. Plan on getting timming light tommorow but would like to know where to set it for weber? Thanks

Can't find it with a light. Anyone know where i could get one of those test caps garages use to put preasure in cooling system to find leaks? Or has anyone made one out of old rad cap and stuff? HMMMMMMM

I searched some threads but couldnt find my problem in them.91 legacy 2.2 Have a problem with a leak on top of engine under intake on drivers side. I can see coolent pooling on back of engine at bell housing. Wetness seems to becomming from under A/C somewhere but i cant see under it.What is up there that can leak? slow leak.

Use to live in kentucky now live in NesQuehoning I have a green 86 wagon and just got a free gray 91 legacy. I go into the mines all the time with my wagon. I love to see the looks on peoples faces with 4 wheelers when i come flying up over a hill.

I just got a free 1990 legacy 2.2 auto for free 249.000 miles. two front cv joints where replaced, two rear are old. When you go above 40 and turn the wheel to the right slitley i get a slite rumble feels like left rear. I think its a wheel beraing so how can i tell by looking? Thank you

Had a 82 gl ea81 sedan and fuel pump died 100 miles from home. took the windshield washer pump off hooked it to fuel line to tank and outlet to carb. push washer button fill carb and home i went pushing washer button evry time engine bogged!

Must have been loose and cruddy wires because today it ran great and i used less then a 1/4 tank of gas for 100 miles. Thakyou again for the feedback

Pretty sure float leval is good because i got the carb from a local sube guru that rebuilt it about a year ago. He use to work for subaru back in the 80s as there top tech at local dealer. The car starts fine only have to hit gas twice on even the coldest days and it fires right up on first turn. After its warm i dont even have to hit the gas i can just reach in and turn the key and it starts. I dont think it is the carb because when i look down the carb and hit the throttle it sprays in a nice mist on primary and secondary barrels. I do have the disty from 4wd engine thats why i want to know if there is a diff between the two. I know when i first put the engine in i had the 2wd carb on it and it ran like crap so i got the rebuilt 4wd carb and put it on and it ran great except for the gas milage. Thanks for the imput! Can anyone on here please tell me if there is a diff in 2wd and 4wd distys? I know the cap and rotor r diff but is there anything inside that is different?

Yea i dont know why no one else is replying either. It is an on and off again problem. No smell of gas and exhaust is in great shape. Went and looked under hood again and was moving wires around when it started acting really stange. Noticed that tach was jumping real bad and engine was pulsating. One yellow wire from coil to disty was loose and had gunk on it like green stuff like your battery gets on it. Cleaned it and noticed posi side bat cable was loose to. Tigtened both and idle smoothed out. Now i just have to wait untill i drive to work tommorow to see if MPG r better. Did take it out for test drive and it performed a lot better. I would still like to know if there is a diff in between 2wd and 4wd disty?

Base timing is on. The hitachi is ok for what it is, holds good idle choke is good and not stuck and no the secondaries r not on all the time they kick in at about 3/4 throttle. Allso just changed fuel filters. I do have a rebuilt from factory holly weber im getting ready to swap when i get adapter kit but untill then i need to get more milage out of this car.Thank you for the help! Hi new suber here! I have an 86 gl 4X4 wagon carbed but its got a 2wd drive engine with the 2wd disty and the 4x4 carb. My question is would having the 2wd disty affect my gas milage? I have done a complete tune up plugs,wires cap and rotor. I know its not vacum related because i only have the vacum lines going to disty,heater control and brake booster and they r all fine and no cat. The problem is that i am getting realy bad gas milage ( 18 t0 20 mpg) and i have to drive 100 miles a day to and from work so i need to get better milage. Allso engine only has 100,000 miles on it. Thanks for the help in advance.
