  1. I picked up a Pretty Sweet 2002 L.L. Bean edition OBW for $1600. It needed some work, and I have her running (and Stopping!) pretty well now. But when I stop after a drive you can smell Coolant. It doesn't leak much, and I can't really tell where it's coming from. But with 265K Miles on her, my 1st thought is the water pump. I add about a Quart of Coolant every 300 miles / Tank of Fuel. Any other ideas besides Water Pump? Assuming it is the WP, has anyone changed one on an H6 before? Any tips, tricks, advice?
  2. Hey there swinging Subaru-ers, I just picked up a 2002 Outback L.L. Bean Edition for $1800. It needed This-n-That, and I've taken care of most of it. And as the title suggests, there was no shade in the rear sunroof, just the sunroof itself. I have found a Totaled car with the shade for $50. But I have to remove it, and then install it. Anyone ever have the Pleasure, or at least a Clue? I'll be hitting YouTube and a Shop Manual if I can get my hands on one...
  3. Okay, so to summarize, what is the BEST Timing Belt kit to get? Or Mixture? I'm doing mine next month, and plan on going "All IN", including water pump, thermostat, etc...
  4. Well, added new plug wires, and no difference... I'm moving to Indiana this sunday. Car drives fine on the freeway, but MPG has dipped from 25 to 22. I'll pick this up down there. Thanks for the suggestions! Tony
  5. Okay, this is almost funny. I went to the SUbaru dealership across the street from where I work, and it's one of those complex's where they sell EVERYTHING! I mean there are Maserati's & Lamborghini's in the mix here. So I get to Service, and ask for Parts, and they send me to the Saturn dealership. So I get to the Saturn dealership, and ask for Parts, and they send me over the river & through the woods. I get to parts, and tell them what I need for a '96 Subaru, and they look at me weird, and tell me Subaru parts are at the other end of the building...Anyways, I get to parts, and they had NOTHING that I needed. But they will have the OEM wires in tomorrow, so I ordered them, and left. I picked up the new New fuel filter, NGK plugs, and even grabbed some new wipers. So I replaced the fuel filter, and it actually runs a bit smoother, but still a little miss at low RPM's. So I start changing the plugs, and all is going well until I pull the wire of the last plug. It came off WAY too easy. I look, and the metal end is still on the plug. SOB!!! So I get it off, replace the plug, JAM the metal end back in, and start the car. It sill shoots a decent spark out the end of the wire, but I'm guessing that is the source of my misfire. The car runs a little better, so I'm guessing the fuel filter had accumulated a bit more "Tank Tartar" build up, and the # 4 plug wire is shot. We'll see tomorrow when I put the new set on. Oh, and the Wipers are MUCH BETTER Too!
  6. Okay! Thanks for all the posts. I've been busy trying to $ell my house, as I move to Indiana Labor Day weekend. I have run a tank of gas since the Techron treatment, and it seemed to be getting worse. So I'm running another (20 Gallon Size!) bottle through my 16 Gallon tank. Tonight I will replace the the Fuel Filter (again), then replace the wires, then the plugs, checking for an improvement between items. I had taken the fuel filter off, and blew through it. It seemed to have minimal resistance, so Im guessing it's okay, but after the 2nd can of Techron I'm taking no chances. (And it seems to be running better with the Techron in the fuel...) Timing belts where changed at 120K, and I'm at 146K now. So after the Big Move I'll change them. It's almost time anyways. I'll update tomorrow...
  7. Hmmm...No change. Any suggestions before I take it to "The Shop" Tony
  8. Okay! I use BP mid-grade gas, and I used Gum Out injector cleaner. I ran 300 miles, and still about the same. I'll get a new fuel filter, and add a bottle of Techron and see what shakes loose! Thanks! Tony
  9. I have a 1996 Outback with the Coveted EJ22/5-Spd drive train. I recently acquired a slight misfire at idle. This seems to smooth out at about 3000 RPM, but still is lacking in power. Doesn't run TERRIBLE, just a slight mis, and missing a little power on the freeway. My first thought was Crap Gas. So I filled up, and added a bottle of Injector cleaner. After 300 miles, it's still about the same. I have not seen a Check Engine Light. I have pulled the plugs, and they looked okay, gapped at .035, light ash, etc...I cleaned them & put 'em all back in. Plug wires look fine, good contact being made, coil looks okay... I'm leaning towards dirty injectors, and I'm going to pull & clean them this weekend. Any thoughts/comments/advice? Thanks! Tony
  10. So does anyone know if a 1996 Legacy RF door will fit on a 1995 Legacy/Outback. Remember, the So-Called Outback in 1995 did not have the raised roof, so it's a Standard Legacy body... I have a line on a Good door for $50. Mine is Quite Rusty. Thanks, Tony
  11. 1995 Legacy Outback 2.2, Auto, 145k, Mixed City/Hiway, Like a Bat Outta Hell! Best so far 24mpg, typically 21 - 22mpg:headbang:
  12. Heh! We have a NEW problem like this every year. This year it's a Ballsy Coyote (Borrowed my Son's Pitbull!), last year it was raccoons in the garage attic. Year before it was RATS making a nest under my wifes engine compartment! She comes home at about 9pm from school. The rats would get dog food (From our own dog!) and pieces of things he had torn up, and made a nice Rats Nest under the hood of her Taurus. Lots of Nooks & Crannies for heating the dog food. I think they would crawl under there after she parked, cuz it was nice & warm! Well, she had to go back out 20 minutes after getting home one evening. As she started the car she heard a couple of Thumps! under the hood. She backed out of the garage, and shut the engine off. She saw 3 or 4 Rats scurrying away, and there were 2 cut in 1/2, and a third dis-embowled. She FREAKED!!! (I let the dog out, and he cleaned up the mess...) Anyways, Peppermint Oil is the answer. All rodents are allergic to Peppermint. We went to the local Health Food store, and the Hippies there sold us a BIG Bottle. We poured a bit onto a bunch of cotton balls, and put them under the hood (After removing about 3 lb.s of food!), and anywhere a Rat could Weasel his way into the garage. That ended that problem. Now every year as it gets colder, we put out the Peppermint. Seems to do the trick! (It was more fun Shooting the Raccoons though...) MADD1
  13. Interesting...I was considering putting the Fuse in during the Non-Winter months, and hoping to enjoy better MPG. Has anyone done this, or Is this recommended as something NOT to do?
  14. +1 on the Blizzaks! I got a set of aluminum rims for the winter tires, and I look good while Keeping a Grip on the situation! Nothing like LEAVING a herd of Trucks, Jeeps, and SUV's at a light with Ice/Snow on the ground! Fat Tony
