Recently I switched to a '91 loyale wagon 4wd 5pd from and '86 gl wagon. The one thing I miss the most about my old wagon is the D/R gearbox. Since I do alot of caving and outdoor activities I frequently find myself in situations where I find myself wishing I had my D/R gear box back.. My question is; how hard would it be to switch the gearboxes and if I did switch the gearbox, would I have to cut a hole for the D/R lever? Or is there an easier/cleaner way to rig up a selector for the D/R?

D/R gearbox, Tight turning radius, Shift on the fly 4WD AND let's not forget the most important thing... USMB! -

I'm so tempted to play kill the subie with my '86!!! I just hate to destroy a subie with at least a little potential... I would probably offer it up to Robert if I didn't lived thousands of miles away... -
Both my '86 GL Wagon and my '91 Loyale Wagon have 'em. They come in handy when in tight spaces. (like when my brother tries to park me into the driveway by parking so close that his passenger mirror actually blocks my driver's side mirror if I try to back up...) Fold the mirror and back out (carefully!) Problem solved!

Note to self: don't overfill the motor. got it!

This may be a dumb question, but it seems that everybody warns to not overfill the oil level in the crackcase. What happens if you overfill the oil? Why is that horribly bad?

I agree, but my brother offered to come along in his jeep as my support crew. Funny thing is, I only got the soob stuck once and *showing off* he tried to prove the jeep better by taking the same trail I got stuck on... Within 1 foot of where I got the sooby stuck, he bent his tie rod! I have a few pics if anybody is interested in seeing them... This is just a *little* off topic, maybe I should start a new thread?

I don't have the defroster on, so I guess I'll pop the hood and check the wire for the compressor clutch. Thanks for the tip!

I have a '91 loyale wagon. Is it normal for the A/C compressor to engage when the A/C is turned off? Mine will engage periodically (as if the A/C were turned on) and it wouldn't be a big deal if I was driving a car with more than 80 HP... (I guess one benefit is that it keeps the system lubricated...) Does anybody have the same problem or know anything about this?

'86 GL Wagon in need of a good Utah home.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the rear passenger wheel bearing is also bad. That would have to be changed before driving it anywhere. -

Well, I was thinking the junk yard would give me around $100 so I guess that's a good place to start. I'd like to see it in a sooby owners yard (or better yet on the street!) than to send it to it's ultimate demise. I'll try to get a few pics up tonight when I get home. -
Pics of guage mod and V1 install

V1 is the Valentine 1 Radar detector. I had one with my '94 Acura Integra, but I'm not sure why you'd need one with an older soob. I sold mine when I picked up my first sooby. -
I'm looking to *sob* part ways with my original soob. it's not in perfect condition, but it runs and the major problems that would need to be address before licensing would be: 1)Windshield (1 chip in the driver's line of sight) 2)It has the cat but no muffler 3)There is a bad headlight relay. (I only know that because I switched out the good one for the bad one on my newer loyal.) It's an '86 GL 4WD with the D/R tranny. I'm looking to get rid of it sometime in the very near future. Is there any interest?

EA82 Radio Questions
Zeebadoo replied to SyntheticBlinkerFluid's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
do you know where you got the kit? I would be interested in purchasing one of my own. I'm running into the same problem of not having enough depth to put my radio all the way back where it "should" be. -
Just a baby at 197,000 miles on my '91 Loyale. Car is running strong.

It's 1 of 4 relays located under the dash and above the fuse box. Each relay looks like a little round cylinder with 4 wires going into it. For ease of access I removed the bottom panel under the dash, unscrewed the fuse box and pushed it out of the way. The relays are right above where the fuse box was. If you're still having problems, let me know. I'll try and get some pics up for you. -
That video is SICK! Maybe I won't get rid of my spare '86 GL wagon... Sign me up for 2 copies! How can I get my hands on the full video?

91 Justy having a few problems
Zeebadoo replied to 91SubeJusty4x4's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check the headlight relay. I know this sounds wierd, but on my '91 loyale when the relay goes out (or I disconnect it altogether) there is still a small amount of voltage going to my headlight. As a side note, the relays are located under the dash above the fuse box. I hope that helps! -

I guess I should be more specific, the problem is with the Left Headlight relay. -

I recently purchased a '91 loyale and I had the exact same problem. The problem isn't with the ground, it's with the relay. It would seem that Subaru somehow wired it up with a sneak circuit or something so that when the relay goes bad, you still get SOME power to your lights. I just pulled the relay off my '86 GL, put it in my '91 and it now work like a charm.
