UPDATE: Once the weather warmed up again, the engine temps got worse. I broke down and installed a new radiator from autozone and it works beautifully! I can run the A/C on max all day long in 97 degree weather and the needle never leaves it's "sweet spot" at about 1/3 on the gauge. Thanks for all the advice!

So last night I ran a shot of UV dye through my cooling system and what I found was coolant on the front underside of my engine (Just behind where the timing belt covers are.) Does that sounds like a water pump leak? I couldn't see exactly where it was coming out of, just were it was going to. I'd really like to run my A/C without the system running close to the red.

Well, it seems that the Radiator has some life left in it! I bought a new radiator cap and it's been working like a charm! I never knew that the cap could make such a difference... Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for the tip! I didn't know that aluminum radiators could age like that. One more thing to check for...

It starts, it idles, it even moves under it's own power!!! I start it up about once a week or so and let it idle for a few minutes just to keep things moving. The only major problem with the mobility of the car is the rear wheel bearing, which moves, but sounds like hell. As far as I can tell, the motor sounds fine. When the car overheated I was going up butterfield canyon, when I noticed the needle going into the red I pulled over and let it idle while I opened up the hood to help dissipate the heat. I then replaced a small hose with a pin hole in it and haven't had a problem overheating since. (imagine a water gun shooting coolant in the engine bay, that's what the hose looked like.) This car is free for the taking and I will keep it around if someone shows interest in taking it, but unfortunately no interest = bye bye subie.

Tomorrow (saturday) this car goes to it's final resting place unless I hear otherwise...

Finding a pin hole shouldn't be a problem with a pressure check and dye, but how would you go about finding out if the radiator is clogged?

It's been getting hotter here and the car tends to get hotter when I'm running with the a/c, but I watch it carefully to make sure it stays well away from the red zone. I'll check the cap and let y'all know what happens. Thanks for the advice!

What could be a possible cause of coolant overflowing in the reservour just after the car has been shutoff?

I'd personally like to keep it for parts or do a little work and make myself something to take up south mountain, but since I'll be moving soon, I can't really take it with me and my parent's don't want it sitting around.

I wonder if this approach would work on my Mother-Inlaw??? Hmm... it's worth a try, but the difference is that people WANT a soob.

Well, I've just made a deal to have the Soob out of the driveway by next saturday (June 3rd.) If someone wants it, the key is in the ignition and the title is signed in the glovebox. Just PM me for the address and/or my phone number. If I don't hear from anybody or the car isn't gone by then, it's going to be permanantly retired. I will have some pics up this afternoon so you know what you're getting. (besides a free soob)

I have an '86 Subaru that I'm looking to get out of the driveway. I figure I have two options 1) Sell it to a junk yard or 2) get it into the hands of someone who might actually use it. There are a few problems with it: -it has a little cancer, but nothing terribly bad yet. -One of the headlight relays is bad -The engine has been overheated, but I don't know if it caused any damage or not. - Right Rear wheel bearing is bad. - in order to be street legal it will need a new windshield (or a really good rock chip repair) The windshield is in good shape, but has a decent size rock chip in the driver's line of sight. - It has no muffler (cat and pipe is still there, it's just been cut just before the muffler) If you're interested in walking away with a "new" subie and don't mind getting a little dirty fixing things up, this one is for you!

Sounds all too easy, I'll let you know how things go.

I have a '91 loyale and one feature I miss the most about my '86 Wagon (other than the D/R tranny) is the ability to start the car without pushing in the clutch. Is there an easy way to disable the safety on the clutch to allow starting while in gear?

Tell her it's easier if she gets enough speed to coast into the driveway, less strain on her back.. Or better yet, have the boyfriend drop her off! The latter would make your gas mileage jump!

I'm in the same boat, I'd like to put some new speaker in the front and install some in the rear as well. My question is: What size speaker will fit in the front and what size will fit into the back if I'm looking for an easy install?
