  1. Thanks for the info guys. Its a decent little car 2.2 with only 130,000 on it and im into it for 500.00 so I'm going to fix it.While the motors out Ill do timing components, seals and water pump. Thanks again.
  2. Well you called it 91..split were the ball is inside. Are the forks available new?
  3. Thanks for the info.I thought you were talking on the outside..ill check it out..
  4. Cable is not snapped.I tightened adj. nut clockwise...hard to push pedal and lots of tension on clutch fork. I can get a slight engagement but clutch pedal hits firewall before full engagement..pressure plate? throwout bearing? cable?
  5. No, you have to start in it gear..clutch wont engage enough to shift through gears...after its running you can push pedal to floor and hold brake on and it wont stall though.but it want to move when you do that..if you drive it it doesnt slip.
  6. yup, nuts are there..was able to loosen them, but the rod is out of adjustment meaning i cant get the rod end to go further out..what im wondering is is that the end of adjustment or never been adjusted and do i want the threaded part to go in toward the fork or out. pedal is near the floor and i cant seem to get a clutch engagement.
  7. Looking at the adjuster, the "threaded rod" is out all the way.Is this a sign of a new cable needed..nuts are backed up against fork..ball is not pulled through.Tried turning adj. nut but cable wants to spin.
  8. There is a hydraulic line running from brake mater cylinder to clutch cylinder with 2 cables attached and a "mousetrap" type setup.
  9. I just picked up a 5 speed 95 Legacy and the clutch pedal is close to the floor. The clutch itself is good, doesnt slip. Cant start the car with it in gear and clucth engaged,as car lunges forward. if its not running you can go through all the gears, but when it is running you cant go into any gear.Is this an adjustment,or cable needing replacement? Throwout bearing not releasing?
  10. From what Ive read here the rear O2 sensor can be replaced with an aftermarket one.Can anyone recommend which brand they used? Part #? This will be going on a 96 Legacy 2.2.
  11. I did find the recall..not sure if its still covered.Im the 5th or 6th owner..car has 160,000 on it.It looks as though it was never taken in for the spring guards.Im going to call the dealer Monday to see.
  12. Discovered it today(1996 Legacy wagon 2.2 auto AWD).Someone on the board is selling 4 springs from a 96-97 Outback and says they fit.Is this just a matter of swapping the springs? Direct bolt on?
  13. can get a pic as mine rotted away..its a bacl box with a connector to it,and the vent hoses connect to it..are you still parting out the wagon?
  14. Looks like its model specific..need part # 42084FA090..they asked for my vin as there was a change mid year..dealer wants 155.00!! Found it online for 111.00.Is there anyway to cheat these? I have a cel on and it wont pass NY inspection.I have until Sep. to figure it out.
  15. Mine is a wagon. It was located in the rear passenger side underneath by the tank and charcoal canister..not sure if they are the same as a 2.2..anyone have a part #?
  16. Need to replace..mines rotted away ..weres the best place to get one?
  17. Got this code about a week ago..any guidelines were to start the diagnosing process? 1996 legacy 2.2 automatic
  18. A buddy of mine picked up a nice 99 Forester that needs a motor(2.5).When he looked up blocks in his parts books(he is a mechanic) he sees that its listed as 99 only. Was wondering what the difference is in 99?
  19. 1996 Legacy 2.2 Can these be bad and not throw a code? Im hearing a pinging noise and not sure if its timing related or a shield rattle..sounds more like a ping, though I hear it only over 35 mph, with a light throttle.Nothing under load and i also hear it under deceleration..cant believe it would ping then..any thoughts?
  20. My only concern is if its the water-pump..i can watch the gage but dont want to cook the motor.if i read correctly the engine can still run but the pump can freeze..also monday night is a good night at his shop..might just have to pay up this time!!
  21. The tensioner or water pump is on the way out..looks like 320.00 at NAPA on Monday for the kit and water pump...just need to get it done..cant wait on shipping..oh well, car was only 750.00,and its in decent shape with only 140,000 on the clock.Cant complain to much i guess.
  22. Thoughts on this kit? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-1996-Subaru-Legacy-Impreza-2-2-Timing-Belt-Kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem220314592992QQitemZ220314592992QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  23. Well its not the alt. or a/c ..sounds like a right side timing belt tensioner..belt has over 70 k (guess)..are these easier than the 1.8 with 2 belts?.I know i need a water pump to.If the tensioner is on the way out,is it ok to drive a few days till i can get it into my buds shop? Im going to change it out myself.
