  1. thats the whole point behind the megasquirt is that it is a complete DIY job. assembly, tuning, everything. 134 sounds like a good price, especially if the perfectpower6 from rallitek is like 400-500 and they dont have one for a justy
  2. why auto? and whats the engine serial # on one of those? (EJXXX?) i want one for my outback now! this thread is making me drool....
  3. true, all the muscle car shops use "seasoned" engine blocks and they rebuild everything on it (pistons, heads, crankshaft, everything). by using a 200k motor and adding 200 hp, you will also need to rebuild everything on it. i think the ej205 would be perfect, lots of aftermarket parts that are easy to install, and would make your wagon as fast as a stock wrx for less than half the price. and its rhd! :slobber: :slobber:
  4. thats a pretty large number to push from that motor. it would be hard to get over 200 hp on an ej22, and finding an ej22t that doesn't have eleventy million miles to start on would be difficult as well, let alone the 300 hp goal. get 227 hp easy with a rex ej20 swap. do it jdm rex style with a ej205 swap. i dont think the engines you mentioned can produce that much reliably without making you refinance your house.... but it is easy to learn how to shift. just sit shotgun in a five speed in the junkyard and shift with your left hand for a few hours. pedals are all in the same spots, so no confusion there they do have a different shifter. in usdm cars, the shifter is bent ever so slightly to the passenger side of the car so that your knee won't pop it out of first. jdm, ukdm, and audm (?) cars should have the shifter angled to the passenger side as well (to the left, hopefully you're still with me here....), so you'll need a jdm shifter. that should be one of the very few special parts you'll need
  5. how would the pattern be backwards? its like this whether the car is lhd, rhd, or upside-down drive 1 3 5 |_|_| | | | 2 4 R the only way it would be different is if he put it in the tranny backwards (which i hope you don't do) or doesn't screw the knob on all the way
  6. sweetness. cargo baskets rule. i wish i had the money to do that, but lights and short shifter are first on the agenda list. that, and i have no stuff to put in there....
  7. that would work. if you carry two, they better have the same wheelbase though....
  8. well, he'd be starting with a new clutch, so it could go either way. cable would be easier, and you could probably get an aussie shop manual from one of the guys on the forum, but a hydralic clutch would require bending of lines and such, it might get a little messy
  9. whoa, that would be sweet! i dont see how it would be different. both shifters are on the floor, in the middle. it should be a clean swap. hydralic or cable clutch though? thats kinda important....
  10. what's the worst that can happen? 2000 grit is really fine though, you might be sanding for a week if you messed up pretty badly....
  11. whoa, thats a lot of trouble to go through.... all i did was steal some cutting wax from the dealer i used to work at (you can buy or steal something similar from wally world, its called cutting fluid, and it usually says it will "remove or hide scratches"....), rub it on, wait a minute or two, and rub/buff off. then go back over with wax. the trouble i have is that i took off the headlights to do this, and wax particles got inside the assembly. so, soon i'll have to take it apart somehow and wipe off the inside.... you could try the toothpaste trick (sticky-ed at the top)....dunno about your original question....
  12. check sporting goods stores, or outdoor adventure stores. there has to be one within 20 miles of where ever you are
  13. the 2001 (anywhere in the world) legacy/outback 2.5 L is the phase II SOHC. they are the ones fixed with the coolant additive. the phase I motors are the DOHC commonly found in the 1996-1999 (1998 legacy/outback in austrailia, japan, and possibly europe) are the ones with big hg problems. you shouldn't avoid them by any means, but buy one that has already had the hg replaced. but your 2001 should be fine. just pop open the hood and count the cams. there should be two....
  14. if youre going to take out the windows to paint, waiting would be best. no point to pay the man if you're gonna take em out and possibly ruin the tint. otherwise, go for it (hope a/c blows cold, because it takes three days min to set)
  15. haha, i've done that plenty of times. 16 panels of plywood would break the roof rack of a ford taurus sw, but 15 won't. -fun fact for you guys anyways, put a cooler on it, a temp gauge, and tow away. just don't snap the chassis in the process (example: i know it can pull this 50 ton trailer full of bananas, i just know it can...)
  16. or post a wanted ad on here. i got a fender from a xrturbo a few weeks ago, looks great, and cheaper than a wrecking yard. he has plenty of legacys to part out, so shoot him a pm...
  17. nice wagon! i'd go the pro route too. it costs a little more, but they leave no air bubbles. you might want to wait for a vacation or something to get it done somewhere for less than 300 bucks though...(150 would be my limit around here, but colorado looks to be different)
  18. those would cause stalling too. do you stall at all (not when forgetting to push the clutch all the way or human error, but right after start up)? maybe your air filter is clogged. or another filter is clogged. when finding the cure for a problem, start with the cheap stuff that needs constant replacement or maintainence....
  19. chill.... yes, premium is 91 out in cali. on east coast, its 93 (lowest common denominator settings)
  20. yeah, considered a trailer for those dogs? are they dachshunds? (could just vacuum pack them like hot dogs...) ok, bad joke. don't get peta on my case (afterall, they are just one city over....)
  21. i'd try dicks or some other sporting goods/outdoor shop walmart doesn't carry anything close to it (already checked) thule and yakima are the more common brands i've seen
  22. new seals, or, if in a REAL rush and don;t care about how it looks: rubber cement take a water hose and have a witness inside the car. spray hose on any sealable place, and witness will see or feel water
