they dont always come on at the same time. i think the a/c running thing stated earlier is correct, but it shouldn't be too hard to hardwire them together and make them run at the same time, all the time. don't ask me how to do it, i hate electronics.....(i know it has to do with parallel, but beyond that....

i found two of the ej20r's on ebay the other day when he posted the engine #, and googled it. it won't work on lhd subies as the second snail is in the way of the steering column. and thats found in a jap-spec bd-bg or be-bh legacy, not the bf postal wagon he has. wiring looms may be a hassle (not as bad as many tuner magazines make of it, but a little difficult none the less)

eh, its all good. didn't mean to cut anyone up or insult someone, just making bad jokes again. i read a lot of british car magazines and watch top gear a lot, and the shift pattern is the same. the shifter comment i made further up there may or may not be true, as that was a token observation from my car and seeing other shifters oriented closer to the passenger side of the car as well (but it does make sense in my head. others may vary)

i think you might have an air bubble in there. bleed the coolant system, and cross you fingers for the next thousand or so miles that you didnt blow a headgasket (improperly bleeding the coolant system can blow them, unlike the discussions on here about them blowing for little to no reason) did you try turning off the a/c and starting the heat resolve the temp gauge?

+1 on the head gasket blowing. while it only has 50000 miles, it will blow in the next 50000 or so, and its gonna punch you in the wallet either way (shop replacing or you replacing) definitely search on here about the dohc 2.5 l phase 1 motors head gasket problems, and check for the telltale signs (oil and exhaust bubbles in the radiator coolant overflow tank, etc.) and haggle down the price (figure 1500-2000 for new headgaskets done by a shop, possibly more depending on location, and aim to knock it off the dealers asking price)

sorry dude, but modifying a 1995 legacy is one of the harder newer subies to find websites and catalogs of parts for (svx is probably harder, so you might have lucked out) you have got to be patient and google lots of things to find anything. rallitek (http://www.rallitek.com) had a few things for the 90-04 legacies (and a body kit for the BGs IIRC) but has since taken down that portion of their catalog, leaving us in the dust. finding foglights to fit that bumper nice and flush will be hard. there was a pic posted up of a legacy L that had an outback front bumper on it that i found to be beautiful. foglights can fit round holes easily, and it would be one of two cars that had that kind of conversion.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42547

i have seen the 4motion passat wagon, but it was a newer gen. come to think of it, i dont recall seeing a passat wagon of that gen. either. i think i've seen three passats that old, all sedans, but whatever. these were taken last year. i know i need to take some more, but that'll wait a few weeks for those curious, i have fixed the dent... and free cookies to whoever can name where i took those photos (ups delivered!)

you own a whole forest? how many acres? can we use it for offroading? ok, moronic statements aside: here's an idea. change the tranny fluid. it'll make your mom happy, your moms forester very happy, and your brain happy (because it won't worry about the mixing issue). don't need to flush it because the little bit in there wont make much of an impact (wont make any if it mixes happily, but let's assume that doesn't happen. change fluid would be a good thing) dunno about the boot question. pondering that one myself (outside cv boot split open, needs fixing so i can take it into the woods.....)

yeah, i'm with the wagon folks on this one. if you were gonna use the pickup bed full time to cart around wheelbarrows, concrete tools, work boots, and other muddy stuff, the baja is perfect. but if you just want one to do commuting and misc home projects, a wagon is the perfect compromise. besides, my dad and i used two station wagons to haul EVERYTHING needed to renovate a 2000 sq. ft. house (well, everything except siding and the 12ft drywall panels, but plywood, wall studs, tools, you name it, it was wagon delivered. even pulled out shrubbery....[unfortunately, these weren't subaru wagons ])

i'd hate to say it, but modified cars are worth one thing to one person and a completely different amount to another. look to get 8k, maybe 9, but realistically, your best offer might be less than blue book. case in point: i wandered onto ebay one day and browsed the legacy and outback sections and found a 97 outback, white, with the same spec as mine (albeit, no cold weather pack.) the owner had swapped in a wrx motor, greddy turbo kit, fmic, the works (10k's worth of goodies:burnout:). auction price: 5200. blue book private party: 5900. so 10k of modifications equals -700 on the open market i do know that ebay usually doesn't sell vehicles at the right price for the seller, but its the only way i can put it in perspective....
