  1. Well the last owner said it ran great for the 5 or so miles he ran it before mothballing it for the oil issue. What were your no oil pressure issues withe CCR motors?? Also no the plugs are quite dry and clean, they dont appear to have been used much at all. Too hot to do more tonight, Going to drain the gas tank dry, go with high test gas in it, change the cap/rotor, coil and wires tomorrow.
  2. Okay We now have no air blow back through the carb, thanks GD. I guess some how the last owner got the dist backwards? But aside from that, still no start. I agree it sounds like an ignition issue, the fun part is always finding where it is.
  3. Okay still have the air blowing back past the carb, But compression si around 150 average. The dist appears to be pointing to the right spot for Cylinder 1 as well. We have tried some Starting Fluid, in case the gas wasnt getting there, and still nothing. We are turning, but never ever catching even once. As I said before, all the fuses are good.
  4. Still at work, yay me. Ya sorry I had my friend checking the spark, as I was in the car turning it over. He started it was a good white spark. Oh and the coil is/was showing 1.3 for resistance, as I recall, so I'm assuming its good. And yes I have checked every single fuse I could find in the car, nothing has blown yet. Compression test and TDC are on the todo when I get home tonight.
  5. I plan on checking that first thing tonight, oh and it is a 1.8, no belts just timing gears. Yes I think your right on the firing order, another thing to be checking tonight, I just haven't had a lot of time on the weeknights to try everything. Mostly been trying to follow wires to see what goes where and trying to get the fuel pump to kick over, which only happened when we tried bypassing the FPCU. BTW do you know if the 84 1.8 brat has just the FPCU or does it have a fuel Pump relay as well? The FSM seems to indicate it doesn't, but I would love to know for sure.
  6. Ugh I would hope it wouldn't be valve timing. The person I bought the car from had just had the engine rebuilt by CCR. He had an oil pressure issue and jus couldn't deal with it at the time, so sold it. So the story is, there was a receipt from CCR in the car as I recall too. If the distributor was taken out to work on the oil pump, its possible it went back in backwards and it would cause the same issue?
  7. The FPCU only seems to have 12V on Run and start, and only then on a yellow and black wires. The second black and the blue-red that runs back to the Fuel pump are always 0.0. After looking around the forums, I found a pic someone put up of their own FPCU, and mine is completely different. Mine appears to not have the relay in it. The center of mine is devoid of anything.
  8. I have a 1987 brat, just got the trans for it, put it together. It hasn't ran now in a year or two (According to the previous owner, I have never seen it run). when you try to start it, it cranks but doesn't start. We have good spark at the plugs. When you put a hand over the carb and turn the engine over, should you feel air coming out of the carb, when the car is not starting? Air is puffing out, I'm not sure if that's normal or if it means the cam in off 180 degrees (not up on carbs). Also, the Fuel pump runs, but sickly, when 12V is applied directly to it. With a DVM on the car's end of the Fuel pump adapter, it was pulsing, but in mV not in Volts ever.. I assume this means the FPCU is bad, so do I just dump the whole thing directly to the battery, or can/should I just jump around the FPCU?
  9. I beleive I did see a couple. The Rancho PnP only had subarus from 88 and up, hardly nothing I could use on my brat..thankfully there are what, 4 PnP up here
  10. Just FYI There is a XT6 in the Foreign PnP in Rancho Cordova. Looked pretty complete still, just missing the wheels. I dont usually see those so I thought Id let folks know, in case they were thinking of 4-5lug swaps.
  11. Okay the 4WD rod from the trans, that sticks up into the passenger compartment correct? I think I have the rest correct, but not sure if that part was to com up, or somehow connect under the trans tunnel with that Z part. I know I sound very new at this, cause I am
  12. Could some kind soul please post a pic of how the linkages look under the console for a 4spd DR? I just want to make sure I am positioning everything correctly. However I did not take the old trans out...and I did not take the newer trans out either. So I have no clue how the linkages should be running exactly. I have the chilton, haynes and the FSM and they show the parts, but no view of what exactly it looks like mated to the trans, under the console.
  13. Just want to keep this around, After 2 hrs of cussing and troubles mating the trans and the engine, I searched the board. Found this and it worked! This should be in the manual someplace...
  14. I could really go for a set of these, rather not custom fab axles on the brat for Imp/XT6 axles how much and when will they be ready for order?
  15. I purchased the CD-Rom manual for my 06 Impreza, and it seems to be pretty much like any factory manual. As for older manuals, keep an eye on Ebay, I managed to get bot the wiring and engine FSM for 84 there cheaply. edit: Well, that's what I get for reading at work, Nipper beat me to it
  16. I forgot to buy the bottom spacer for my 4spd shifter. Its the little metal spacer on the bottom of the shifter, where it goes into the trans. If anyone either can get me some dimensions of it, so I can get one made, or has a spare they want to sell, please let me know. I just spent a bunch replacing all the shifter bushings, and dont want to make the run to the dealer for one spacer, and wait for a week to get it in.
  17. Hope that wasnt the 84 wiring FSM that I got from ebay got lucky to land the engine/body FSM and the Wiring for under 40$ Finally decent manuals to use on the brat.
  18. I finally have the 4 spd trans for my 87 brat, but need both a clutch kit and a shifter bushing. Does anyone know whats a decent cheapish clutch kit, and where to get it and a general cost? Also does anyone know where to get the little rubber shifter bushing, and where to get it. If I can only get it from Subaru, anyone know the item number on it and a general cost?
  19. Well I think I said, a couple weekends ago I was in the foreign PnP in Rancho Cordova, there was at least 6 D/R 5spds, though most where S/R over a dozen of those....
  20. I would have headed out there today, but also have to help my friend with his Miata which needed a transmission replacement as well this weekend. Maybe Ill try again next weekend for Stockton and the ones up here for the tranny. Less folks on the forum have the parts I need, then Ill buy em here. Always prefer my moneys going to real folks and not companies.
  21. Just came back from the Rancho PnP, They had about 20 cars there, all most all were D/R 5spds, not a single 4spd manual to be had in the lot. Guess the old 4 spd are getting impossible to find.
  22. Yep I know the shop is wrong, is why I dont wanna do business there. Im not sure what 5 spd's the PnP up here have, usually they ahve a decent selection of subs though. Ill prob be there this weekend, if I see any Ill post back here.
  23. Where would be a good place in Sacramento, CA to get a 4spd Dual Range transmission? I tried one shop in Rancho Cordova, who kept saying only a transmission from a brat would work in a brat, which they dont have parts for. I don't want to go through the conversion to a 5spd right now, I just want to get it running so I want a decent tranny. If I have to hit PnP I will, its just there is no way of knowing the quality from there.
  24. Okay I must be blind, I swear I looked in the USRM, really... okay time to go hide in a hole till I get real work done on the Brat
