Help! Visual ID Needed on Leak - EJ22 (pic) - 92 Legacy
I'm trying to ID what part is leaking on my 92 Legacy Wagon. I recently replaced a bad A/C compressor unit and noticed liquid under the car (maybe 12oz or so). I started the engine and traced the leak to the front left of the engine near the outer passenger CV boot area. I have not seen the leak again and the day it appeared, the heat was about 99F and the car was running with A/C for 45 min. Any help on finding out what this is would be greatly appreciated.

Needs a new front bumper and passenger door, but the car looks great inside, and for the price....who cares! anyway, can someone pull the vehicle history report for me? carfax or some other vin checker? 4s3bj6338p7957735 Mucho appreciated Ultimate Subaru brethern! -dave

One A/C Fan Working 1992 Legacy Wagon
So in the process of converting from R12 to R134A, I noticed the passenger fan behind the radiator does not engage. The driver's side fan is on when the A/C is on. I've replaced the fan from the pickNpull and it still doesn't work. I've read some confusing content that only one fan comes on and it's if the car is overheating. Can someone clarify? Should I be worried about the other fan? It's worth mentioning the car does not overheat. Ever. cheers fellas!

AC Compressor Replacement
dhoch14 replied to dhoch14's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHey Nick, Yah, it's probably the 1AM piece that through you off. I suggested a shop b/c R12 purchasing requires an EPA card, which shops have. According to my recent CL research, card is required to buy R12 locally. I'll research my options and see what can happen.

AC Compressor Replacement
dhoch14 replied to dhoch14's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXmaybe this is silly, however, couldn't I simply get a used compressor and have a certified shop install it with new old stock of R12?

AC Compressor Replacement
So my "newish" 1992 Legacy Wagon had the AC compressor start clicking in January. I had the shop disconnect the compressor so I could use the rear defogger without the noise of the failing compressor. Well, summer is here and I love road trips and don't really care for back sweat. The girlfriend has given me a choice, fix the AC or get a new car. Any recommendations? I've read that converting from a R12 to R134A is about a $1k. Ouch!!! Cheers! -d

92 Legacy Wagon - Inspection Results
Just bought a 92 Legacy Wagon AWD AT with 107K miles on it from a local dealership. They dealership didn't want to put any money into it, so I offered to take it off their hands. Woo! Any info on how big/expensive the below items are? 1) Valve cover gaskets leaking 2) Water pump leaking 3) Cam seal replacement 4) CV Boot 5) Baffle Plate Leak I've done some research and most of these items seem to be normal wear and tear. Cheers, -dave

Overheating on hills?
2002 Outback 2.5L 137K Manual I had the thermostat and radiator replaced last summer. I just noticed on hills that the heat starts going up. As soon as I kick it down to 4th or even 3rd, the heat will return to normal. Could this be the dreaded head gasket issue starting? On an 02?! Btw - the coolant level is normal and I have not seen any bubbles as of yet. Help! -dave

Cat Converter Swap - Compatibility question
I've had the dreaded P0420 light for 7 months. I have replaced both 02 sensors and the light still comes back. I've found a used cat from a 2000 Legacy g/t at a reasonable price. Will it fit my 2002 outback? any help would be appreciated! -dave

Eratic Front Wipers
2002 Outback Manual 117k On a recent snowy Pacific Northwest adventure, I noticed when I turned my wipers to full power the left blade started going farther and farther off my window. Sometimes it hits the rubber seal, sometimes it goes farther. It eventually goes so far left that I can see it in my drivers window. I've noticed several scraps and scuffs on the paint as a result of the crazy wiper. This only happens at full speed, at low speed the wiper stops a good inch from the rubber seal. Is there an adjustment I can make on the blade arms to prevent this from happening or are my motors starting to become too "loose"? I noticed that if I pull both wipers up as if I'm going to clean the window, there is a good 2 inches of endplay that each blade arm will move. Appreciate the help!

93 Legacy - poor gas mileage
dhoch14 replied to dhoch14's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXvalid questions and points. 1) manual - AWD. should have included this. 2) I imagine the original o2 sensor is still in place too. This would obviously hinder gas mileage. 3) I can replace the wires in addition. 4) she just had her front brakes pads + rotors replaced. 5) No cruise control, a little heavy on the gas, doesn't go too fast. thanks for the help.

93 Legacy - poor gas mileage
So, the girlie friend's 93 Legacy is getting roughly 17 mpg with 80% highway driving. Apparently, the typical mileage is 22-27. I changed the oil and replaced the air filter last month. Last night we bought 4new plugs and a PCV Valve and I plan to put those in. Since I'm new to Subies and only have experience with air-cooled VWs, normally I would replace the plugs / coil / cap / rotor / adjust valves, however, I'm not sure what is applicable for water-cooled 2.2. Any recommendations?

Interesting info that I learned today
dhoch14 replied to Oregon_Legacy's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXmy thoughts in portland oregon. 1 out of every 4 or 5. Seriously, as some joked when I got my subie last week, I'm going to need to put some unique indentification on it so that I can find it in a parking lot.
