  1. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showpost.php?p=639230&postcount=5 not my post, and im not not the original poster, but i think the thread itself is worth putting here. Parent thread:http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=639677#post639677
  2. exactly. The fact is that we are a nice group; so we tend to be a little too tolerant of some things, and let them get under our skin because at first individuals think it might be a little out of place or rude to say something.. then, by the time someone finally says something, it turns into a peckin party, and can get kinda ugly. He's trying, but the guy WAS only slapped on the wrist the other night, so we don't need to bust his chops too harshly, YET :-p
  3. First off, I must say I am delighted at the response to this thread.. I posted this last night thinking I would throw a little something to you dogs, and you folks LOVED IT!!! Secondly, I have to add that holes or no, this bloody car aint gonna die for some time. Me older brudder had been driving it for about three or four years before I got it, and it already looked pretty much like this.. My memories aren't specific enough on the actual size of the holes, but the holes go back as long as I have known the car and that is to circa 2000. One of my "alter egos" is Mr. Tenacity. This car scratches that itch rather well; for another example you can see my "how to build a lawnmower" thread in OT...:-p This was STRICTLY to keep my damn tools from getting so wet.. When I saw mold on my work blankets I was FURIOUS and simply had to do something about it. Theres some cardboard reinforcing the hole over the gas filler, but the other side is pure alabama chrome (i LIKE that BTW!!) Not to say that I didn't immediately think of painting the entire area with some primer, once I get a little rubbing compound to eliminate the rust stain streaking down onto decent paint. Wouldn't the primer help avoid the edges of the tape peeling? I agree. THAT is the treatment that my datsun shall be receiving.. and the Good Fuji had the grace to bring me this subaru with a plan in mind... Unfortunately, You have hit the nail on it's proverbial head here. Had this car a fice speed transmission, even 2wd... I would keep it. Even if it had the driveline it does, with an analog dash, I would keep it... but I LOATHE automatics. The digidash angers me. Seriously, FWD 3AT SPFI? Its the OxyMoron "Subaru GL-10." The windshield rust is the bad spot anyhow.. THIS is just the eyesore and water source. I hear ya.. I would take some really detailed photos of this rust; They both allow water access straight into the inner fenderwell, AND the trunk. The passenger side has rust extending into the filler area.. its BRUTAL. However, both cameras I have are crap-tastic and I never seem to have access to a decent one to take some close up photos. BUT, one of these days, the Good Fuji's plan shall come into effect, and I WILL treat all this rust with some good Wurth products or POR, and glass up some patches to not look so godawful. The 2 or 3 holes in the front doorjamb areas, the windshield holes, screw em. Maybe some POR but nothing is going to fix this. (This "plan" of which I speak is basically, shawn practice on soob so soob no look like doo-doo; then shawn are good for when shawn play with Z car. YAY! ) One day, I will be riding behind a dump truck. The wrong piece of gravel is going to fly out after hitting a bump; that piece of gravel is going to sail through a beautiful arc as determined by inertia, gravity, wind resistance, and the luck of the Irish. Upon impact with my windshield, the spiderweb pattern that forms in front of my eyes will instantly inform me that my joyous time in the SS Tetanus, my 1987 Subaru GL-9.5, is finally at an end and I shall search for teh w4gon or sedan to transfer my favorite GL-10 bits into. Who knows, maybe that day will lead to a visit to see one of you wondrous people! airfare from PBIA to Denver is only about a hundred bucks one way, and there are at LEAST a dozen of you whose opinions of a car I would trust enough to wire 500 bucks purchase price to. the Craig-list is our friend Decent daylight pics may come tomorrow, but I will take a couple of close shots as well as wider angles, and give you guys a couple more scraps.
  4. s'ko: First off, I think that it does go without saying that to really judge it, you would need to see it in reality... BUT, I think it is an intriguing idea.... What about trying to eliminate the lower "crease" line that runs along the side of the body? I think that tsutomu's example is one that highlights the lines and moldings that came with the car; and YOUR idea seems to be one that the lines can get in the way of. The rtim on your BRAT is already shaved; and the top "line" I speak of is sorta instrumental in your design, but the lower "line" almost just gets in the way.. Thats my only thought on your design; other than that it looks REALLY interesting, despite the fact that it is normally the type of thing i do not care for at ALL. I think it would look great; youve done a good job positioning it to complement the car rather well.
  5. December: After Tonight: December: After Tonight: December: After Tonight: Current score: Rainy season = two months O' Flooded trunk Shawn= Wet tools, destroyed Haynes Manual, moldy work blankets. The Shawn Team is calling out Duct tape onto the field!! Can "The Taper" pull them out of this ballgame with a save, or is it all lost? Stay tuned for more details.... (redneckery FTW)
  6. LOL the swear filter wont let you say mat su shi ta And i have been told that the studs/bolts question isnt cut and dry either, but I cannot quote any specific instance. In short, apparently we need to say: My statement about the inboard/outboard... and your statement about the studs/bolts.. AND say that both should be true every time, but there will for some strange reasons be exceptions to the rule, and wish good luck. I have been trying to get a good definitive but simple statement on which pump/which car for over a year now, just so that I could turn around and give it back out... every time I put it one way (this time I opted for the different AC setup explanation) someone says "Not always true.." and gives the other explanation.. so in short, read our statements, make your choice, buy a water pump and pray I guess.
  7. the head bolt thing is NOT an insurmountable obstacle, nobody here tries to pass it off as such. You could also simply drill the holes out and tap them for a slightly larger american sized stud, and get cheap head studs that way.. couldnt you? In the end, if you can turbocharge a vehicle you can figure things like this out.
  8. dude, youre running one rear disk, one rear drum?? Thats hysterical. Maybe one of the bearing races in the hub isnt installed quite "flat?" I would definitely suspect some bearing issue and try to avoid driving on it too much until someone who knows more than me answers your question, it shouldn't be THAT hot...
  9. exactly. BTW, I have always LOVED the phrase "angle of attack," sometimes mathematics is BRUTAL!
  10. King of Dumb here, dont feel bad. No man thinks well without their tool, right?
  11. just to make it crystal clear: Factory installed AC compressors are mounted between the alternator and the power steering pump; Dealer installed AC has the compressor and the alternator switched. Put another way: inboard AC compressor & outboard Alt == factory air, shorter water pump. Inboard Alternator and outboard AC Comp == dealer air, taller water pump.
  12. First off, I think that allowing the sound of a weber bellowing on top of your motor to escape from the hood and heighten the overall sound of the car, is in fact one EXCELLENT reason for a hood scoop without a turbo, that I had not thought of. Good point. As for how to keep the rain out.. Well, its gonna come in. You have an air filter over your carb? That should keep any water from going directly in, there is ALOT of air in motion under the hood so one it gets down it isnt so easy to just make the turn to get sucked into the carb. Anything I can think of to function as a "water trap" or gutter for the scoop, would also deaden air flow and sound transmission. As for rockin the pink, durania just posted a random picture of a random pose in a set of pink pajamas.. just, weird. Hes basically being enthusiastic about being so weird. Think of "rockin the pick!!!" as a big thumbs up and you've pretty much got the idea.
  13. screw automatic transmissions. sorry, i hate the thing... (3at, 2wd, SPFI 87 GL-10, the oxymoron subaru) but I rev it up to the highest it will keep it in 1st at least 2-3 times a day (all the way up to 34-35mph in first, heh) and try to beat 5500 in second at least once a day (I live on a side road off of a road that was just built into a virtual freeway, so I get to punch it up to sixty ASAP alot) I have lately learned that I could, in fact just shift it manually.. but i dont wanna do that. it doesn't feel right in any case, and its not worth the bother. If I had a fivespeed, unless my car had shown differently than it has with the auto, I would be banging 6-6500K in first and second, alot.. but i have no idea what it would actually DO so that doesn't count.
  14. You are looking at the matter too much in "black and white" terms. Its everything that you said, plus everything that he said, and more. Welcome to the Grey Area, where reality actually happens. Baffles help slosh in all situations as well. It all works in coordination to set up a power plant for the purpose it is being applied to.
  15. thats the model that "CRX Guys" want to get ahold of. for the record, sure, 60 hp max.. but you neglect to mention the 97 ft lbs of torque at 2200 RPM. plus, that HF weighed in at under 1900 pounds. yes. 18 and change. Drop a stock 130 horse contemporary SOHC, 16 valve, 1.6 liter SI engine and trans in there, and watch out.. instant racecar, you want to talk about "Feels like im on a train track or in a roller coaster," NOTHING beats a well prepped CRX. I just want to figure out a way to put an EA driveline in, switched around with the engine in the back and the gas tank and battery etc up front, with AWD. I GUESS a front engine configuration would be acceptable, but I don't pipe dream lightly heh.
  16. im gonna go out on a limb and say that the black w/ white stripe wire, and the big white wire, and swapped in that photo. The biggest wire coming off an alt is usually the charging wire, which should connect to the fusible link block. On the stock GL alternator, this wire was the wire that had a ring terminal on it as opposed to the two wires in the T plug. It's "going out on a limb" because i don't KNOW this.. but typically the wires on an alternator follow the same rules from car to car, depending on type of alternator setup used...
  17. dude, you REALLY frighten me with this kind of stuff. great shot though, comedy in motion.
  18. Pre-detonation or pinging?? have you ever tried running a few gallons of high octane into the tank when it was low, to see if it ran better or different at all? MOST of us get away with low test, but it could be indicative of a different problem, especially if there seems to be an accompanying power loss.
  19. Without that raspy voice, grover isnt Grover.. next up, you have to do something about Bert's shirt. Although honestly I can't say I would feel to comfortable if they actually changed him, as tacky as his turtleneck is.
  20. please let me know how you like the unit. I never really thought I would want cruise control, until I fixed it in the GL-10. I mean, I had used it in other cars, but I never turn it off on my soob, and I am surprised how often I use it (especially given the volume of traffic I find myself using it in.) It helps me keep from letting my speed creep up if I am not paying attention, among other things. Also helps with the hands-free driving, because we all have to steer with out knee once in a while..
  21. Thus dispelling any lingering doubts any of your kids had about bert and ernie. or could they be rocking the "thuggin' love?"
  22. one of the links on the left bar is a link to various engines in plush, you gotta love it. its the third link down from the top, in the left hand column. theres a single mazda rotor and housing that I think is my favorite, but that is a MIGHTY tough judgement call to make.
  23. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74632 if you decide to go the wise route
  24. http://rocket-craft.com/car/works_car71.html if you go on to page 5, theres one with the word riot in it that is a n impreza, they have a legacy on that page too. neat stuff. wish i could read japanese :-\ spit on me if this doesnt look like a GL coupe, except for the lugnut spacing.. notice the leone has appropriately wide lugs, heh
