Blower fan causing power loss
I do have A/C...I feel like this used to only happen when I used defrost, but now happens if I have any button pushed in other than OFF..don't even need the blower on..

Blower fan causing power loss
When I turn my fan blowers on, especially the defrost, there's huge pull on the engine. I lose a ton of power. What's the deal with that? Anybody? Thanks!

Heater Core
Ok, thanks. I sucked it up & called this morning & told them I won't be needing it. I could hear the dissapointment in his voice..
-
Heater Core
Well I'll go with that for now. Thanks!

Heater Core
yeah, I called to see if I could cancel the order, he said the order's already been placed, so I'm just wondering if it's not a big deal to burn them, or....

Heater Core
So this isn't a huge no-no? They won't come after me? I'm scared:confused:

Heater Core
O......K..... so do I feel bad about never going in to pick up a part that I've special ordered from Napa?.......
-
Heater Core
So......you would buy from them?

Heater Core
What's thier deal? How can they get things for so cheap?
-
Heater Core
Ok, great, I went ahead and ordered it. Honestly, after a mechanic warned/told me he just ordered one for someone & it was $300+, I'm pretty happy about $140. But he's a Subaru specialty guy, so I'm sure he ordered it from Subaru. Thanks!

Heater Core
Napa says they have to call for availability 'cause they're not even sure if they carry it anymore, but it's around $140. Does that seem right? Are we confusing something?
-
Heater Core
Great! Thanks. I'll check my local junkyards. Any way to tell if the heater core's good or bad by looking at it?
-
Heater Core
It's starting to feel like fall...which means my temporary fix of bypassing the heater core will need to be fixed for real soon. So, heater cores. OEM? Aftermarket? Who's a good source, if these aren't one of those things I should really get from Subaru?

AC & Overheating
Thanks

AC & Overheating
Hmm....I was just reading some other threads and saw that people recommend using only OEM thermostats? I just bought an aftermarket one..should I return it and go with OEM? Also, if you're feeling like humoring me and responding...I've never replaced the thermostat in a Subaru before and asking is easier than looking in the manual...Where's the thermostat on this car? (87 GL Wagon, Carbed) Thanks! I'm changing the fluid and upper & lower hoses, and was going to do the thermostat..but if I should only use OEM it may have to wait.

AC & Overheating
Alright, thanks everyone. MSSLGECKO, I saw that you were in Bozeman, not Missoula, so I guess I thought you may have traveled.. Ok, I'll check it out and see if it's really dirty. I need to change some hoses anyways, so I'll drain it & flush it while I'm at it. It's an '87 EA82, btw.

AC & Overheating
Great, thanks guys. So...if I don't want to make the drive to Missoula but I'm feeling motivated, take out the radiator and clean it off? Or be a bit lazy and spray from the back? I can handle that. Thanks.
-
AC & Overheating
Thanks, I may see if I can find a radiator cheap, I know mine's seen better days.

AC & Overheating
What's the reasoning behind my car running hot when I use AC? Is it just because there's that much more pull on the engine, or is there some other connection that I can do something about? It seems to me that my car runs a little hot at highway speeds anyways, but it runs even hotter when I use AC.

fan...bearing?
It's cool when things work out so well. Thank god for junkyards.
-
fan...bearing?
Found a $25 electric fan assembly at the junkyard (Subaru wanted $200 just for the fan motor!). Somebody had cut the wires and spliced them, so I had to do the same, but it works, and no noise.

shifting noise
Thanks, I'll check into that.
-
shifting noise
Well...this also happens if I downshift to slow down, and I'll get a series of them. I'm much more inclined to think exhaust or driveline...Doesn't seem like suspension.. Thanks everybody, I'll check some stuff out.

shifting noise
I feel like I use to know what this meant and I cannot seem to remember... When I shift & am accelerating, or when I use engine compression to slow my speed down, I sometimes get a popping noise coming from under the car. Driveline? Exaust? I just can't seem to remember...Thanks!
