  1. I checked what I think is the hose is (very small hose) with the help my my hayne's manual it looks in good shape but where it connects there is no hose clamp and it slides on and off very easily
  2. Sorry yes it is P0172, 2001 Subaru forester, the plugs look in pretty goods shape not burning/soot etc the on plug did have a bit of dried oil on it.
  3. Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me, my 2001 Subaru has been running very rough, slow acceleration and losing power. At an Idle it bucks and sputters, on the way home from work today (which I wasn't sure I was going to make it) I got a check engine light on and it is showing code P0170 and the code reader has a red light that comes on...Anyone know what is wrong? Oh I have run fuel injector cleaner through it, changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, and PCV valve.
  4. I have only had this car for 2 years, it had 192,000kms on it when I bought it and I am not sure of the repair history. Anyway to tell if it is the axle its self? I had the axle go in my impreza and it make that clicking cracking noise when going around a corner but not the other noise...
  5. Hello everyone... I was wondering if anyone might be able to help with diagnosing a problem I am having with my 2001 forester... About 2 months ago I started getting a funny humming noise (sound like those lights you put on your bike that come on when the wheel is moving or one of those wind up flashlights). So a friend of mine drove it and thought it was a wheel bearing, he was going to replace the wheel bearing for me today but says that the noise is coming from the gear box. He is not familiar with Subarus at all so I was hoping everyones expertise here might help. Here are the details that I know (which is not much cause I don't know anything about cars really) 2001 forester L 250,000kms the noise is constant when the your are on the pedal and stays about the same noise level increasing slightly with speed. As soon as you let of the gas the noise is gone, sometimes when taking a corner your can hear a clicking. If you put the car in neutral and rev it there is no noise at all. Oh it is an automatic too... My friend is thinking maybe the gear box needs to be replaced or maybe an output bearing....Any ideas?
  6. Thanks for your input, I will get may dad to get the codes pulled and see if the helps shed some more light on it
  7. Hi my dad was driving yesterday and his 06 legacy starting running rough the check engine light started flashing and then went solid and then his cruise light started flashing. The car then started running normal again after a couple of minutes, but the check engine light is still on as well as the cruise light still blinking and the cruise will not work. Car has 60,000kms on it, anyone have any ideas what might have or is causing this? It has not been hooked up to a scanner yet so I don't have any codes. Thanks, Denise
  8. I will try that first and have the heat shield check out to see if that is what is rattling, do I chane both O2 sensors (front with OEM and rear with either right?) or just the front one?
  9. So I have had my 01 Forester check engine light going off and on for a while now, each time I had it checked I was told it was nothing more than likely a loose fuel cap. The check engine light has been more persistant lately, rarely going out and there has been a rattle noise for about 2 month when i start up the car that seems to go away once the car has warmed up. I was thinking maybe a heat shield or something...nope turns out that is the sound of my bank account draining, I had it hooked up to a code reader again today... 0420... I know this is the expensive code, but can anyone tell me what I should be expecting cost wise??? And is there anyhting I can do in the meantime maybe a temp repair, I just bought I house this week so the funds are kind of short...
  10. Just a side note since I had the rear brakes done I can pull up on my emergency brake without pushing in the button... Is that a problem?
  11. Well I got the fluid changed, and the brakes feel much better. I have never heard of changing brake fluid before coming across this board! Thanks again!
  12. How do I tell if they are adjusted correctly? I actually did have the master cylinders checked when the rear brakes were done about 2 months ago. I am going in about 20min to have the brake fluid flushed any suggestions on the type of fluid?
  13. Hi, My brakes feel rather soft and I was wondering if there is anything I can check or if it is normal. I have a 2001 Forester with rear drums. I was used to my 95 impreza with 4 wheel disc brakes so I figured it was just the drums on the rear. I replaced the front disc pads about 5 months ago and the rear shoes about 2 months ago, and the rotors and drums were fine. I bought what ever the premium brand pads and shoes that they had a Part Source. Still no change in the brakes if anything they seem softer than when I first had the car. I have driven a couple of other cars (toyota and mazda) with rear drums and the breaking seems alot harder. I have checked the brake fluid and it is not low... Is there anything else I can do?
  14. I last filled up my tank on Saturday... This is the first time that I have filled the tank all the way up since my check engine light went off a couple of weeks ago. When my check engine light comes on it usually does the day after I fill up. So possibley it is a problem with how much fuel is going into my tank? Is there something that could be wrong causing it not to trigger that the tank is full until it is full to the point that you can't possibly put anymore in without it overflowing?
  15. Well so much for my fuel theory, My check engine light came on today on my way to work grrr:mad: As for the over flowing of the fuel that has me thinking...I do not put any more fuel in my car after it clicks, mainly because if I do it over-flows right away. I wonder if this might be the problem... For some reason with this car when the fuel pump clicks off it means litterally no more gas will go into the tank...
  16. 95 Impreza Automatic 467,000kms (290,180 miles) HG still going strong before it met its untimely death...
  17. Which was my first thought...but then I noticed a sign on the pump that says they put some sort of additive in their gas for cleaner emissions...oh well if it works then that is a good enough reason for me
  18. Where did she get it... I got the gas cap online, OEM part, I can not remember the code, every time got it check though, they always said it was nothing serious and I probably didn't tighten the gas cap enough. The new one I put on about 1 month ago. Thanks, Denise
