Well I had a 1995 Subaru Impreza with 407,000kms on it before it met it's sudden death into the side of a bus (oooppppsss...) Before the bus incident it was starting to have problems about a month before, but still nothing engine related (water pump leaking, gas tank leaking etc). I now have a 2001forester, bought it with 190,000kms (not even broken in yet) I have put on about 6,000kms since and other than just finding oil in the spark plug hole thingy (thats as technical as I get) which I have been advised from some great people here that is is just a gasket I have not had any problems...

Hi, I am on the path to trying to diagnose a water leak in my 2001 Forester, the floors are wet on both rear floors and on the drivers side floor (but only sometimes). The worse of the spots is the passenger sided rear floor, and the floors are only we at there lowest points. I brought it into my mechanic and he checked the back for any water in the spare tire compartment and check the rear tail lights as was suggested here before on a previous post, all dry! Also he checked under the car to make sure all plugs were in place. He pointed out to me some wear spots starting to form on the rubber about 1/2 and inch away from the rear and front passenger windows they are very small about an inch in length and not even a quarter of an inch wide, I am not sure how to explain the wear marks I guess it is the rubber breaking down but it does not appear to have gone all the way through the rubber. Anyway my mechanic says that is the only spot he can think that the water is coming in from. Does this sound plausable to anyone? Also is there some kind of sealant I can get to put on those spots to test to see if that is where the water is coming from before I buy all new door seals? Thanks again for everyones help, you have been great!!!!

The tail lights have not been chaged to the best of my knowledge, I just purchased the car about 3 weeks ago. I have checked around the windows no water appears to be getting in there. The windshield washer fluid does come out at the back ok. I am hoping to get it dried out (hard because of teh below zero temps. and then take it through the car wash to see if it gets wet again. It really seems to be coming from underneath. The mats were all dry jus the carpet underneath was wet I have since removed the mats in an attempt to speed up the drying process. Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions I really appreciate it!!

Just an update... I was in at my local stereo shop getting speakers and such for my car and one of the guys there said the forester is known to have bad leaking problems, he sai that they used to come in all the time with "puddles" on th floors, has anyone heard of this? I did a search online and can't find anything about water leaks:confused:

There is no sunroof in the car, and no water or wet aywhere except in the floors at there lowest point. It has been pretty much raining or snowing for the last couple weeks. I just noticed the problem a few days ago because I had bought some speaker and I put the box on the floor behine the passenger seat and they sat there over night when I took them out the corners of the box were wet. It sees like where ever it is coming from it is coming from underneath because the floor mats are dry on top:confused: The passenger front side sees to be the only place that there is no wetness. The other 3 spots you can see where they are wet. I will check uner the hood and seep if I can see where the drain holes are for the windshield. thanks.

I resently purchased a 2001 Subaru Forester (3 weeks ago). I am have just resently notice the back floors are quite wet and the driver side front floor is wet, I can not figure out where the "wet" is coming from, I have checked the door seals are not leaking and the drain holes in the doors are not blocked. Does anyone know what could be causing this? someone mentioned to me that possibley the line for the washer fluid to the back window may have split or cracked (???) I did notice it looks like whoever filled up the windshiled washer container (I am so car illiterate, sorry) seems to have filled it with just water or extreemly watered down windshield washer fluid and we did have some below zero nights. Anyway any help would be greatly apperciated I really do not know what to look for!!! Thank you in advance

Well the 1995 Subaru Impreza is no more, and I have learned if you hit a bus, no matter how much of a tank you think your car is...The bus wins! After sliding through an intersection and doing a header into the side of a bus, my poor little green machine was laid to rest with 407,00kms. Now carless I have given up on getting an impreza since I can't find one in my price range. I just discovered a Forester online the other day though, and I figure that is about as close as I am going to get... The only thing is I know nothing about the Forester (not that I knew much about the impreza, other than it can leak oil gas transmission fluid and coolant from the water pump and still run as if it were new...well almost). SO anyway I have found a 2001 forester with 188,000kms on it, that apparently does not burn oil or leak anything, at this point that is all I know, can anyone give me the scoop on this car, what I should watch for any known issues with this year etc.? The price is fairly good..I think about 6700.00cdn Thanks in advance Denise

Headgasket leaking externally leaking oil water pump leaking not growling rear caliper I will look around I have yet to find a subaru in a junk yard around where I live, guess I could take a drive to Toronto. Tranny is not leaking bad at all the seal is just starting to go, I am just scared to flush the transmission fluid, I have been warned that is can be a sudden death for the tranny when regular flushes hav enot been done. Well I went to see the "new" car today...piece of junk!!! The guy said it was in A1 condition clean and 154,000 kms I would say 1/4 of the car was filled with bondo and the paint job...I think if someone had taken a can of spray to it it would have looked better. The interior was grey as the seller said, just failed to mention it was suppose to be beige the grease is what made it grey. it ran ok not fantastic my subaru with 407,000kms runs better. I popped the hood and it was obvious that the car had been in an accident, although he claimed it hadn't. the engine was soaked with oil and under the hood was very rusty...I am doubting that it really only had 154,000kms on it. So now to try to keep my car alive... Can anyone tell me if the rad has to come out to change the water pump? I was looking at the service manual and it doesn't say anything about having to take the rad out, but when my mechanic looked at it he said he through it would have to come out.
