  1. yeah I agree man thanks for the advice! I will keep in touch and see what happens.
  2. Well I got in touch with the guy I bought the combo from and he is going to take it back and replace it with another one at no cost, so should I give it a chance or what? If it doesnt work I can send it back and be done. When I went to the dealer they didnt charge me either for the installtion and removal and putting the old one back in, so it was cool. So let me know peeps. thanks
  3. Hey man I was wondering about your setup you have? Is it a cd player/tape deck combo with weatherband? Let me know thanks again.
  4. Hello all I have a rather interesting sitaution, I have bought so far 2 subaru legacy cd player/tape deck combo with weatherband and both of them have had issues with the cd deck the first one cd's were stuck in it and the guy I bought it from sent me my money back in full, and now the second one has the same issue, and once again I getting my money back. So here is the deal I purchased them both from ebay, I am kind of disgusted with ebay at this point since I am on my second problem, they are all compatable with my year they were out of a 2000 outback. What I am looking for is some feedback on what I should do? Help me please! I want to find a tape deck/cd player with weatherband combo to swap out of my lagacy, if I buy from a dealer it is so expensive. Thanks and please advice. Oh yeah my local subaru dealer has installed both of these and found issues so I did at least go to a subaru dealer to have them installed.
  5. Per working at a subaru dealer the service would usually be oil and filter change and rotate tires rebalance if needed, and check air and fuel filters and change only if needed. I know that fuel filters cant really be checked but it is a good idea to change them due to the gas and keeping good mileage to save some money and that also goes with a clean air filter to.
  6. Well I hope now I can end this sitaution now! It was getting so old man. My whole sitaution in the rear of my car with a vibration was part of my exhaust from the muffler bracket area but they had told me I could replace it from the muffle back to intermadiate pipe because if they replace that part it would all fall apart due to rust especially with gaskets and screws. Does this really sound right? Especially for a 2004. They actaully had the tech ride in the trunk while driving the car and when it was in the air in the garage. Good times. They heard it from the exhaust, so they told me its actaully okay. They were honest enough to tell me not to replace it $650, unless I wanted to but it was a unecessary reapir, unless I wanted it done, when warmer weather comes it doesnt do it that much but I just needed to actaully find out what it was so I will feel better.
  7. Hello all. I posted a thread aways back about a 1996 subaru legacy outback that I was looking at, mileage was 292k on it, so I had mentioned what I should look for and I came back with all the answers. So I went and test drove it at that time when I looked at it the dealer was closed. So here is the lowdown, lol! Both foglights are busted out, the underneath is pretty much oil soaked, um when you press the brakes they clunk really bad, seller said something also about bad strut mount, struts probably to. The check engine light was on and it was running horrible, bealry running I would say. The other issue was when you put it in park the shifter wouldn't stay, I think the shift lock was broke, and the emergency brake was busted and would not hold at all, smelt like dog, yuck so nasty inside. It will not pass mass inspection with all those issues, the dealer is selling as is but with all that is out to a auction or wholesale. With all that said overall all normal stuff I guess but no history on it either so who knows with all those miles. So anyways I decided to keep further looking. I also added that he was asking $1000.00, um no not worth it man. Putting all that work into it especially with those miles would not be worth it, I would spend more on fixing it then what it is worth. So I continue my search.
  8. I need some help my 2004 subaru legacy stock stero/cd player came with the car. The other night I think it had a moment. When I got into the car and pushed the button to turn on the radio nothing happened, I pushed the button a couple of times and it woulnt turn on. So I thought it crapped out on me, great. So then I pushed the eject cd button and the cd came out and then I pushed the cd back in and then the cd in and the cd part played fine, then I pushed the button to turn on the radio part and then it came on okay without a problem. So can someone tell me what might of happened? A very wierd problem that just came up. One minute the radio wont come on the next minute I eject the cd and push it back in and then the whole unit works including the button to push for the radio to come on. help on this one! please!
  9. Hi all I need some serious advice again. My 2004 Legacy had the trunk replaced and spoiler replaced due to vibration coming from them after the dealer had done a previous repair, I have a previous thread about this issue and I had thought it was gone but the noise is back. Ok,when I put it in drive and come to a stop I hear the vibration in the rear, so hears the deal, the dealer had removed it prior when the trunk was orginally painted because of a port installation issue which caused rust to form after the dealer had repainted it and they reinstalled the spoiler and the vibartion had started, there was no noise before they had touched it. I am so pissed! So its going back monday night where I am picking up a rental suabru again! So my suggestion was to have the tech or body shop ride in the trunk and drive the car and perform those times when it does it. Please advise of this issue and please help me out to see if it may be anything further but indeed it is the same issue for sure.
  10. I know that the 2003's had some front diff problems and needed to be rebuilt, but that is totally different from headgaskets!
  11. Out again scouting for another subaru along with the one I have my 2004 with 36k on it, the last one I had test drove overheated, lucky me! That one was the 1998 and is still in that guys garage so I said forget for now and keep searching. I came upon a real doozey! A 1996 subaru legacy outback with 292k on it, I was so shocked at the mileage I had to look at it again! So I did notice oil leaking on the underneath it was pretty wet I am almost postive it was the rear seperator plate because it was wet in back of the oil pan, so at this point it is alot of miles so hit up on anything else, oil leaks, transfer clutch binding, brakes, tires, headgaskets. I have to call monday about it and go test drive it, it does have some rust and needs a drivers side foglight I noticed it was broke but for a second car bang around could be fun!
  12. I was just wondering if anyone has experieneced any head gasket issues on there 2004 subaru? I have a 2004 so I am just curious? I did think that by 2004 subaru would of had the problem licked, but then again who knows! Please let me know all, thanks.
  13. Hey I just wanted to et you know that I have a 2004 subaru legacy 35th anniversary sedan with 36k on it and I have piston slap also, the dealer gives me usual line that it is normal and when it is up to operating temp that the noise goes away, ha. No it does not!I think they are avoiding the issue! They gave me a service bulletin that was dated back in 1997 about it, um no! So I called subaru and they told me to get a second opinion from another dealer, trust me I will, let me know what happens!
  14. As far as I know he is the car is in the garage and is not on the lot! Thats a good sign he is right on it to be fixed.
  15. Thanks everyone for the information! It is indeed the headgaskets! I heard from the mechanic, he doesnt have much of a history on the outback, so I am going to move on for now and look for another subaru, I am looking for a 1997-1999, I have a subaru now its a 2004 subaru legacy 35th anniversary edition sedan. But I want to have a second older one to for a secondary car ya know.
  16. I had a rather interesting situation one day test driving a 1998 subaru legacy outback, it had around 90k 100k on it, I got in and it was a cold day out and I had the heat on and as I am driving it and really liking it and considering it all of a sudden, bamb! The heat went to instant cold and I noticed the temp gauge sky rocketing into the red so I quickly pulled over and called the mechanic and said your car just overheated on me. I explained the sitaution, so he came in another car and had me drive it back and he had that one brought back. At this point I am not interested in the car till it is fixed. So at this point any ideas what it might be! I am almost postive it is headgaskets, the mechanic did say he didnt have to do much to it he did mention the coolant looked ok and so it was not touched, he gave it a oil change and did the valve cover gaskets and a knock sensor but all around car was in great shape. So I would like some input I have not heard back from him yet.
  17. I thought that the timing chain was good with the life of the car? I thought those didnt have to be replaced? Let me know I am rather curious.
  18. Yeah it is a good feeling! The gentlemen Bill I only deal with is in subaru parts but he does subaru service to and he is the only one that I will deal with, he is indeed a great guy! I go to pete's Subaru in Pittsfield massachusetts.
  19. Subaru only made so many of them, there were a limited number made for them!
  20. Hello all! After many posts about my spoiler vibartating on my trunk lid and rust issues from the port then from the subaru dealer repairing the rust and it coming back I have received a new trunk lid, and my spolier put back on, and having no further issues with noises or vibarations I am now happy, with this all said I went to subaru direct and as a subaru good will they payed half for all this repair and I payed the other half so I am happy. It is amazing what can happen when things are half rump roast port installed and problems that can arise, from working at a subaru dealer and seeing these issues come up and then it happening to me amazes me. I had a 2007 subaru forester for a rental through the dealer and I was impressed with the way it handled and performed for me, I was considering one at one point, but I like the legacy instead, it feels more confortable and roomy. I had my service done while it was there also to so that got taken care of to, and they washed the car for me to! Living here in Massachusetts it was salt ridden, yuck! My legacy is blue but it looked for white, lol!
  21. Hello all! My spoiler issue was upsetting, with the colder weather you can see it vibrate and hear it much more, with soa involved and the regional subaru rep in my area, to which I know him, he has decided to split the cost with subaru half way and get a new trunk installed. I was going to have the trunk fixed from the rust again from the dealer screw up but I was nervous that it would come back again. Soa did back me up very well and I am happy with them! So my 2004 leagcy will go back to the dealer for a new trunk and spolier and along with a rental from the dealer to! So I am please right now with everything so I wanted the share my on going issue with everyone!
  22. Hi thanks for responding man! Yes the dealer is going to honor taking care of it, also since it was done this year under a parts warranty/body shop deal. I do indeed like your solution I was thinking about that witht he rubber, but being so cold out and no place to deal with it I dont know really where I could do it. My trunk is empty but I will check those items in there thats a good idea thanks man.
  23. Yeah at that time I was so pissed, and didnt care about anything had rapid thoughts.
  24. Hi thanks for replying man! It happens in the cold ok, and when you put car in gear and start off, and at a steady speed of at least 30mph ,and also when I am stopped at a light or sign you can hear the vibrating in the rear bad when I am at idle. Much more pronounced in cold then warm.
  25. It is amazing isn't it? I would love to get into it myself but not sure if it would void warranty in case something further happens, if I had a garage that would be cool also, but very cold here now and tough to do ya know, thanks for responding man!
