  1. today i installed the struts. biggest pita is the sway bars and the lower bolts on the rear struts. raised the car between one and half and two inches. thanks guys, now my aunt won't bottom out leaving the drive way. del :banana:
  2. i to own a 88 gl-10 that came with a 4-speed auto. i converted it to the 5speed dr. had to change the axles to smaller ones. never did count the splines and i believe the 25 spline are larger, so my vote will be, yours will have 25 splines. hope this helps del
  3. the actual numbers are not the important part. what you are looking for is consistancy between cylinders. if the highest cylinder is over 10 to 15 percent more than the lowest, other tests are needed. if every cylinder is within 10 to 15 percent no worries.

  5. for the work involved (of which i have the tools required) i would prefer to put new struts on. this is my aunts car, not going for ultimate height, just getting into the driveway. i found the partsbin had kyb's for about $360, but i remember a thread where somebody bought them for about $300, the question is from what company?
  6. some time ago i seen where somebody put outback struts on a legacy. they bought them online for around $300. what i need to know is where to buy them (or has the price gone up drastically lately). 2001 legacy 2.5l thanks del
  7. if i adjust the striker out the door latches without slamming, but the door ajar light on the dash comes on. if i adjust it in the problems reverse. with the striker adjusted out the body lines on the top of the door line up, but the bottom (front and back) show the door being an half an inch out.

  9. 1985 hatchback anyone know how to ajust the bottom of door in. i would like to shut door without slamming and have the door ajar light off. thanks del (passenger door)
  10. ez have you had the front tires balanced? a cheep alternative is to rotate the tyres front to back and see if the vibration changes. look at the cv boots, are they riped? if so the grease will come out and dirt will enter killing your cv in a short time. find a parking lot (empty) and do some circles, (turning will make cv problems louder) try at different power levels. try not to smoke the tyres because it will mask the sounds your trying to find plus attract the local law. del

    scott on page 2 of the photos there is a vehical with more than one front drive line (771). any clue what it is? del

  13. 1988 subaru gl10 4x4 wagon i am planning to lift my wagon. 1. is it possible to move this rear subframe towards the rear (to center the wheels)? 2. when adding blocks to the front strut towers is there a way to make ajustments to the camber. i have seen a way to do the ea81s, but not ea82s. pics would be great. thank you del

ScoobieRoo find a similar 4wd that you can crawl under. note where the drive line center beariing is held in place, how the third member is held in place. look at the fuel tank i beleive it is different. if welding, drilling, and threading holes while laying on your back under your car do not scare you, get yourself a parts car with the parts you need (gl10 recommended iff you stay with an automatic). del
  16. if i do have to find another ignition lock what years and models fit my 1985 ea81 hatch. thanks del
  17. 1985 gl hatch ea81 the key switch is worn and and one must play with the key to start the car. can i have a locksmith fix this (and retain the orginal key) or must i find another lock. if so is there a jy that will ship the lock? (no ea81 found locally in yard). thanks del
  18. the rest of the story goes like this about 4 yrs ago i put new plugs, cap, rotor, rings, bearings, seals (not o2) in the car as i bought it as a basket case. the spfi was off a 2 wheel drive slushomatic. the car was a gl-10 but no turbo (lost i guess). drove the car for a while to and from b-ham (4 hrs one way) for school on the weekend. about 3 yrs ago bought a newer sub. and sold this one. about a year ago my cousin quit driving it because the milelage was off (he replaced it with a newer loyal) now i have it back flat battery and tire and all. all this said i will start with a battery, o2, and cleaning the maf (some one enlighten as to what that stands for). ps still have parts for the gl-10 dash, 4sp auto, and more. no turbo and keep in mind i bought the car in pieces, so cheep.
  19. thanks for the replies. the o2 sensor is where i will start, have no idea how many miles are on it. the injector was puzzling to me also (heard of them quiting being plugged, but not of rebuilding). does anyone know how to make the ecm think it has manual tranny, and what it will do if i do not. thanks again ps what does cts stand for
  20. i have an 1988 sub with spfi. over time the fuel milelage has dropped. the computer came from an automatic, now has duel range 5sp. i have heard there is a pin to remove on the computer for the manual. or do i have another problem. local shop says the injector needs rebuilt? ideas welcome. thank you del
