  1. Thanks bro but I'm good. My buddy and I went to look at a 78 Brat yesterday and then he put a deposit down on it. Little bit of rust repair to be made, needs new motor, fix a few body areas, and just clean up everything else. Without the motor I talked the guy down from $750 to $650. My buddy wants me to do a full rotisserie restoration on it and turn it into a driver and show car. Baja yellow for the body and either silver tone metallic or black for the Brat decal but painted on instead of a sticker. He wants to keep the wheels original too but do disc brake conversion so the 6 lug conversion is out the window for now.;)
  2. Ran across this and figured I would post it up although I'm not sure if it has ever been posted up. It contains rod and main journal diameters, valve size and clearance, etc. Has all the technical specs you could ever want. http://www.economysuperstar.com/milesfox/subaru/engine-specs.htm
  3. I looked it up on Automotive Repair Reference Center, which is a knock off of Mitchell and Alldata but is not as thorough, and saw how it all went together.
  4. Actually its only about $20 at Oreilly Auto Parts.
  5. Oh ok, I gotcha. I'll look it up on Mitchell on Monday when I get back to school.
  6. Any of the top hats, both front and rear, for a 93-01 Impreza will work on a 96-99 Legacy and the 98-99 Forester. Heres a fitment chart for the fronts in case you want more clarification. Hope this helps. Since I have a 97 BG I know a lot of what parts fit what in this generation. Front - http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/MSM0/FM1107.oap?pt=02953&ppt=C0035 Rear - http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/MSM0/FM1258.oap?pt=02953&ppt=C0035 (This just shows for the right rear but left is the same for fitment)
  7. I think I know what you are talking about but since I ain't looked at a BRAT before I'm a bit confused and not sure how its possible. Do you have a pic that you can take to show me?
  8. I noticed no one asked if yall redrill the brake rotors or use a different set of brake rotors. Is there a 6 lug brake rotor that is the perfect fit or do we have to drill the brake rotors?
  9. My buddy is going to take me up to check out a 78 BRAT at a salvage yard on Wednesday to see if I think its worth fixing up. If it is, he plans to get it and I was wondering what all I need for the rear disc conversion for it. Also need to know where I can get parts for it. I'm going to be the mechanic on this project while he pays me for working on it.
  10. thanks but I'd rather do it with coilovers so that I have the strength and stability and travel. Not to mention they can be rebuilt.
  11. I don't want to have to deal with struts anymore. I've blown perches and valves in the rear and Bilstein coilovers would suit me better and last longer. Not to mention the plus side that they are sexy.
  12. They don't make subaru stuff anymore. I called them before and they stopped making them because they have way too many orders for guns.
  13. The EA82 won't be able to handle the amount of trque I will be putting thru it. Thats why I'm gonna go with a 97-98 JDM WRX 4.444 5MT transmission.
  14. Was just going to do a suspension lift on it and get slightly bigger tires than stock.
  15. I have a 97 Legacy Outback and want to lift it 2" for offroading and towing and to play and running BFG AT and MT 215/75/R15 and was wondering what all I need to do. If you have a DIY on what I need to do that would be helpful. I start school for welding on 8-25 and will be finished in a year. I have a guy that can build me a 2.5L STI hybrid with 2.0 WRX heads, STI cams, forged pistons, upgraded valves, and a few other things for about 5k for everything including the motor and have another guy that can build me a 97-98 JDM WRX 4.444 5MT with Viscous center diff and helical LSD front diff with widened 1st-3rd gears and first gear is 3.083, second gear is 2.064, third gear is 1.545, forth gear is 1.151, and fifth gear is 0.825. Then all I need to find is a 4.444 LSD rear diff. Gonna get a set of Bilstein coilovers that are 2" taller than my stock struts from the top of the tophats to the bottom. Need to know what other suspension and drive train and chassis parts I need or mods I need to do. Any and all help is appreciated.
  16. Love your subie man. What size tires are those and how big of a lift is that?
  17. Thanks for the help guys. When I get ready to lift my subie I will start from scratch with a salvaged body and the one I have now will be my boat puller. I'm going to get a STI engine and button it up to the EA82 dual range tranny. That will give me all the torque and hp I need to get the boat up any boat ramp. The one I lift will also be with a STI engine but I will swap out the turbo with an inline turbo and retrofit on a snorkel.
  18. im thinking of ways of making it possible with subaru parts and make it work really well. any ideas i come up with that will work i will post them here. thanks for the tips guys.
  19. you better believe im gonna take pics. i also wanna have a camera mount on the dash board so i can mount a vid cam to record all of my adventures. (edit) i just figured out a way to get the extra 6" that i need as to not put much strain on the transmission and rear diff. weld gear reduction boxes onto each wheel. then i can keep the ground clearence of about 25". do a gear ratio of about 8:7 where the top gear turns 8 times when the bottom one turns 7 times. then i can get the 10" of lift i need. im also gonna move the rear diff back about 8" to be able to allow the 35" tires to clear the wheel well. i may even do the gear ratio at 4:3. it all depends. im also later on gonna remove the rear seats and have a small roll cage welded on. im also gonna have the floor rhino lined and have cobra 5-point harness seats to replace the front seats. im also gonna weld the rear doors to the car and have a solid window installed on each door. the speakers are gonna be marine grade as well as the stereo. im also gonna put jeep style hinges on the front doors and move the speakers to the roof. im also taking out the air bags and having a heavier duty steering wheel to replace the stock one (maybe). i do know that im gonna change out the transmission to the 5-speed dual range and have a custom center consol made from steel or fiber glass. its also gonna be rhino lined along with the floor but will be removable incase i have to work on the transmission or linkage. doing all this allows me to keep it as subaru drivetrain. also having a gear reduction box allows me to climb easier. also allows me to turn the 35" tires easier. less strain on everything. if you have any other ideas feel free to post them.
  20. im wanting to put a 10" lift on my suby and im wanting to find out which 5-speed wiht hi-lo range transmission i can mount to my EJ25. also what are some mods i can do to increase the horsepower to 300. im also trying to find out which year(s) make(s) and model(s) of subies have solid front and rear axles that i can mount under my car. im wanting to go solid axles cause using a transaxle with a 10" lift puts too much strain on everything. im gonna have http://www.alliedarmament.homestead.com/SubParts.html make my lift kit along with the front bumper and rear bumper. if i have to install axles from another brand of vehicle to do it i will but i would rather get suby axles. im gonna have 35" tires on 2 sets of rims. 16x12 with negative offset with superswampers and 15x6 with negative offset with all-terrains. if you check out their site and goto the front bumper page and look at the maroon outback you will see the bumper i want. im also gonna have them weld on a brush guard and grill guard and have 2 tabs for kc lights. for pics of my subaru and other info on it go here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2184403 let me know what yall think and if yall can answer any of my questions i have. thanks.
