There's a guy not to far from me(about an hour drive) parting a 2004 WRX,I have no idea what shape it's in or anything about. But is there anything on that car that would work on my '95 Impreza LX 2.2 AWD wagon.I would like to improve my car somewhat, and didn't know if anything on an '04 WRX would even work, but was sure someone here would know.

I'm kind of in the same boat as the original poster and just wanted to ask a couple questions.I own a 1995 Impreza 2.2.What kind of fuel mileage would the Delta cams get you.Would it hurt it real bad because gas is going up again.:mad:Also same question about the frankenmotor.I would love for the car to move out a little better but can afford to completey kill the fuel economy.Anyway, guess i'll start searching for Frankenmotor info.

Well I got the tranny in the car(except for a few bolts,it was late last night so figure I'll finish up tomorrow) After that all I have to do is put the new gear oil and transmission fluid in and see how the car runs now.I bought the car with a bad tranny so I've never really driven it yet, other than onto a car trailer.

I've searched and can't find exactly what I'm looking for.Anyway,I'm putting a 4eat tranny from a Legacy into a '95 Impreza. What weight gear oil do you guys recommend for the differential and what ATF fluid do you think is best for the tranny?I'm wanting to do this up right and not goof anything up so I thought I better ask.

This is a great idea.I was just wondering how to stick a EJ22 in a 1976 Celica.

I done a search here and Googled until I could Google no more,so if I missed it I'm sorry. What's the valve adjustment specs for a '79-'80 EA71 engine? I know it tells in my owners manual, but I haven't seen it in over a year.

Guess I should introduce myself

Welcome to the forum. There's not many people from our area that's into these old subarus. My local O'reilly's know who it is on the phone as soon as I ask for an old subaru part,LOL.Glad to see you here. -
I've had different Subarus, right now I have a '79 front wheel drive,'87 wagon,a '80 wagon,a broke down Legacy wagon and just got the Impreza the other day.I just didn't know anything about the Impreza's,seems like I see more Legacy's around but my brother has a Legacy wagon and I like it pretty well.I got the Impreza for $300 and already had the tranny to fix it so I thought why not, couldn't lose to much at that price.

I just got my first Impreza the other day,It's a '95 wagon 2.2.Engine's good, tranny's bad.But I have a good tranny in an old Legacy I have.Unfortunately it's an automatic,I'd like to swap in a 5 speed but the auto is what I have and it'd be cheap so I guess that's what I'll do for now. What I'm wondering is for the people here with Imprezas, how do like them compared to the Legacy.I've not had one before so it's all new to me.I like the Legacys and I figured it'd be about the same.

I wished it was closer,I have a '79.

One thing I've noticed is how high the rpm's are.At 50 mph it's revving around 3000 and at 60 it's about 4000 rpm.It seems terribly high.

What year did the 1.6 subaru engine quit needing the valve adjustment.I have a 1979 and a 1980 with the EA71 engine, they'd both need it every so often right?
-
It was highway mileage mostly,I made a couple trips in town with it but mostly highway.I knew the 2wd cars would do better but I didn't know it would be that much.I've drove my brother's '89 wgaon it got about 30,but it had the fuel injected engine, fresh tuneup and everything.I was hoping after I get a tuneup on it that I might see 27 mpg. That's was my goal, anyway.

I just bought a 1980 subaru wagon a while back.1.6,single range 4x4 wagon.Supposed to be the original miles at around 60,000[old woman's car that hadn't been tagged or ran in 6 years]Anyway,I bought it, put a fuel tank in it and new fuel pump and got it running pretty good, but the gas mileage is a little depressing.I just measured it tonight at 22.5 miles per gallon.I've been getting between 30 up to 34 out of my 1979 2wd Subaru and was even getting around 20 with a 1987 4x4 wagon with a bad running carb on it.Anyway the car seems to run pretty good, what should a car like mine be getting.I would like to get upper 20's at least.

I'm about ready to get to work on my 1987 GL 4x4 wagon. The hitachi carb is shot.I've got a weber I picked up on Ebay and I also have access to a 1988 2wd Subaru parts car with the auto tranny. It's got fuel injection.Should I buy the adapter plate and put the weber on or fuel inject it?What would the mpg difference be.Also would there be any problems with the ECU going from an auto tranny to a 5 speed?
-
I have a 1979 DL and I really like it.It is a little work finding parts, but so far I've found everything I've needed for it.I've put 5500 miles on mine in the last 4 months.
-
Do you thing the fuel mileage would pick up.It was getting about 18 to 20 mpg and backfiring all the time.Is there any hood clearance problems with the big square K&N filter.
-
great, that's what I was hoping to hear.

I don't know if it's possible or not,so that's why I'm asking. My brother has a '89 gl wagon that rusted out and fell apart.Mechanically it's great but the suspension fell out of it.He also has a early 90's Legacy[kind of forget exactly the year right now]with an auto tranny. Is it possible,at least reasonably possible to swap the dual range 5 speed into the Legacy and basically swap all the 4 wheel drive parts of the '89 wagon under the Legacy body hooked up to the 2.2 engine.I know people are swapping the EJ22 engines into the older subarus with an adapter so I didn't know if this was possible or not.Ideally he'd like to find a rust free body for his old wagon but where we're at the older subarus are pretty scarce.Anyway.it's probaly a dumb question but I don't know if I don't ask.
