1981 ea81 hatchback

what is it ?

it seems as tho the images didn't properly transfer . i don't know how to size them . i'll do them seperately . this maybe holds the heater hoses ?

putting the finishing touches on an assembly and it's been so long since i started that i forgot a few things . i can't recall where each of these brackets went and where the vacuum hoses from the green fitting on the front go to . thanks for your help . jim . [/img][/img]

sorry i missed you . it's going back into a Lt blue 81 hatch . i wanted to paint the body o.d. green but i wouldn't have been happy unless it was inside and out and that was just too much money . then i found a red hatch in great shape which just happen to have been my first sube and the guy sold it two days before i could go get it even tho he said he would hold it till the weekend . even drove 2 1/2 hrs each way to fruitland to look at an 86 hatch that was in great shape only to find it was a 3 door ea82 with a broken timing belt . so it's going back to his host . i found a donor of the same color with much less rust and over time i'll add things as i can find them (A frame pushguard ect.) but thanks for looking , i hope he purrs . i put alot of time and money into that project .

all that's left is the clutch , a K and N air filter , and to pressure wash the engine compartment .

i'll take some pictures after i'm done , but i'm doing a slight body restore and a complete engine on a light blue 81 hatchback . putting the engine all back together this weekend . rebuilt the carb , remanufactured heads , cam and lifters sent to delta for a repair and a little extra torque , pristine ea82 spfi pistons from jerry , had new wrist pin bushings pressed in and the rods and pistons balanced . new water pump , new oil pump , new ditributor , new alternator (a remanufactured hitachi) and new radiator . looked at ccr's and thought i'd save a few dollars ... not by much . should be nice . oh yeah , and the obligatory fel pro permatorque head gaskets .

jerry already told me about the driveline when a guy was holding an 86 hatch for me . i have a very good friend who happens to run a driveline shop so i'm okay there . i had planned on using most of the electrical componenets from my 81 but to be honest i don't even know what an ignitor or ballast are. (please don't laugh , you had to start form the beginning too) i will talk to jerry tho . i went up to his house last weekend , he's a nice guy and his wife has a baja . on my way home today the guy from craigslist called and said a nieghbor came over with cash and got the 86 . i had cash also but i work 4/10s and asked him to hold it till friday. i should have wired it to him said he'd hold it . what brakes my heart is that it was coincidentally my first subaru i had 12 years ago and i was looking forward to getting him back . i went back on craigslist and there is an 80 with a 1600 in spokane thus the query. money talks ...

i'm not snubbing you one eye , i know you are a guru also , i'm just at one of those crossroads where nothing is going as i'd planned and tossing ideas in every direction and hoping something sticks .

are the motor mounts the same tho ? if i did this i would also be tossing the tranny and putting in the ea82 d/r 5spd with jerry's conversion kit . i'd have the whole different bell , flywheel , ect . what i'm wondering is if the motor mounts match ? thanks .

i have an 1981 ea81 hatch that's blue w/gray interior . i want to paint it o.d.green and switch to a tan interior. i found a 1986 hatch with a flawless tan interior on craigslist . the odd thing is... it's my old hatch !! i called the guy and after awhile i realized that i recocognized the voice and jokingly told him to gimme my car back . he said gimme my $600 back and it's yours. anyway , i dont intend on using anything off of the grill but the fenders would be nice . i have the single round headlight , this has the four squares. is the fender the same ? would the doors bolt right on ? mine have rust holes all the way thru . would the interior swap directly over ? i read somewhere on here that hatches and brats stayed ea81 thru the years even tho everything else changed . i basically want to make one good one out of two . what say ye ?

does any ony have a part bumber list ? ebay has some nos pistons from various sellers . one set is 38005-4300 one set is 38005-4310 , and one set is listed as STD B 12006ac400 . any ideas ? thanks .

thank you for the input. the one in my photo is on craigslist in southern oregon. It would have sucked to buy it and paid for shipping only to find it wouldn't bolt right up. will this guard bolt onto an 81 hatch if i took off or modified the two front rubber bumper guards on my car?

there is a place up there in everett that we found in the giant nickel ads. it was like 1-800-japengines. we got one for my son's justy for around $350. it had a one year warranty. it's ran great since day one.
