  1. So it happened again. I tapped the starter a couple times with a tire iron and it started. It's definitely the starter. Thanks for all of your responses. I love the site.
  2. I bought a 2001 outback about a hundred miles from my house. Half way home I stopped for gas and it wouldn't start again. Plenty of voltage and tried it in neutral also. Nothing. No click or anything. After letting it sit for about 20 minutes it started right back up. Hasn't done it since. Any suggestions ?
  3. thank you. i found them on craigslist and she swears they had 15's on them so i drove to spokane and got them. i should have looked for a stamp. i got home and was cleaning them before i saw the 16 on the inside. she says she had them on an outback so i should be okay. unfortunately i have fairly new tires on mine and wanted to simply put my rubber on them. now if i use them i'll have to buy new tires also.
  4. My 1995 legacy wagon has 15 inch factory rims. I bought some used aftermarket rims that they thought were 15's but it turns out they are 16's. Can I put new rubber on them and use them or will they rub ? Thanks for any input.
  5. disconnected and replugged the two large clips and the horn works, but still no nuttin.
  6. i've done something else. bumped a wire or something. got the timing marks correct but there is nothing. no lights, no radio, no turn over.
  7. I have a 98 impreza wagon. i replaced the water pump which obviously entails removing the timing belt. i took off the alternator for convenience also. I lined the paint marks on the cams and the arrow on the crank gear to 12:00 o'clock when putting it all back. the car doesn't turn over at all. nothing electrical no turn over, no radio, no nuttin. is there a sensor that detects that is so out off time that it wont allow it to turn over at all ?
  8. i just went to wal-mart and got some "put it together yourself " speaker boxes. i left some slack coiled up and if i had to haul something i could slide them around and also set them on top of the car for outdoor events. they also have those quick release clips for fast removal if you have to . my brat quit to where i had to leave it over night and it was a small relief to be able to take my expensive speakers with me . just a thought .
  9. i have a weber on an 86 brat . when i come to a stoplight it idles at 2000 until i give the throttle a tiny blip and it drops back down to between 700-800. so far i have only carb cleaned eveything and got a new throttle cable . i also lubed the new cable in case they didn't . what next ?
  10. i purchased some axles off of ebay thru a place in las vegas called meyers automotive supplies . they were $57 each with free shipping . i don't have any connection to them in fact i live in washington state . i just thought that was an awful good price and their ebay guru jeff went out of his way to be helpful . the store name on ebay is - your_import_parts_people7
  11. i put a 4 speed tranny from a 81 hatchback in an 86 brat . i ordered new axles from empi an used the 86 brat as my vehichle locator . the ones they sent are subaru but they are about 2 inches too long . do they make different lenghts or am i missing something obvious ?
  12. sorry for not writting back . i changed phones and didnt copy your # . i'm swapping the tranny in the brat . what do you think about new engine and tranny mounts ? a waste if the others look fine , or a smoother ride no matter what ? send me you # , mines 509 430 8141 . jim

  13. 185/80/13 but they are hard to find . try firestone . they sometimes carry it in their fr380 series .
  14. is the second generation short bar the only one that will bolt directly on to an 84 brat ? i have a long one that does not fit .
  15. if you haul off those two brats would you be interested in selling the pushbar ?

  16. i rebuilt my motor and when i put it back the fuel pump didnt work . i could hard wire it from the battery and it ran . chiltons showed it wired staight into the voltage regulator , so i replaced it to no avail . i took it to a shop . they said the pump was drawing 20 amps and frying my voltage regulator . i needed a new pump , an inline 5 amp fuse a new regulator . they wanted $660 so i brought it home and did those things myself . it started but smoke rose from the new regulator and there is a small heat damage mark on the side of the regulator . it's like i have two wires crossed or have missed a ground . please help . oh and does anyone have an early 80's regulator with the round plug . thanks . jim .
  17. does an ea81 fuel pump have a relay between it and the voltage regulator ?
  18. i finished putting in and hooking up my 81 hatchback's ea81 and the only two issues i've had so far is the fuel pump didnt work . i ran hot wires from the battery directly to the pump and it worked fine . the car started up like new . does an ea81 have a relay ? all i saw under the dash was a green box with 3 prongs which said timmer assy . could it be a broken wire on the carb not telling it to fill up the bowl ? i ran it for about 5 minutes with the radiator cap off waiting for the thermostat to open . it didnt , nor did the temp guage on the dash ever rise so i shut it off before it got too hot . the sensor spades are all plugged in so how would i go about tracing it backwards ? thank you . jim .
