Well, I drive 08 Impreza outback, and my driving conditions are 50 miles round trip on free way during weekdays approx 15 miles of city drive everyday. I started to use beads that produces negative ion and I installed like the pictures, my gas mileage was jumped to 31.2mpg/avg from 26.4mpg / avg. it might have some effect on your car. I'm having some trouble uploading pics, I will do so asap, but I got the beads from http://www.toa-corp.co.jp/eg/garage/specials/autoacc.htm you can see my fuel saving beads here; http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?ppuser=22682&cat=500

Dallas TX had a few inches of snow today, and I own 5 speed 08 Impreza Outback. I used to own 4AT Legacy BG5 year 96. I realized that manual is better on slipperly road, because once the tires slip, all you have to do is quit putting your foot on gas pedal and the tires start to grip. Automatic.... I had one moment that 4AT Legacy slipped and couldnt stop until it bumped into ice wall ( fortunately no damage to the car....) Automatic is nice when you are stuck in the traffic jam. So, I guess which advantage you want might be the key.

QUOTE=Bigbusa]Good lookin wagon! Thanks for the pic but it's too small! Can you post a bigger one of the wheels on the car? I'll trade you my 15.2 mpg for your 23 anyday! has anyone ever used this service? Subaru dealership in my town offered me this service. They say that they will fix dents, minor scratches, wind shield cracks etc..... I filed a claim through website, and they arranged a wrong technician. I have made a scratch on under front bumper and one of rims. you know, when the car is brand new, we want to fix it right away, but seems that they do it poor service. Maybe, it's just because it's holiday weekend.... :-\

Congrats on getting another Subaru!! Yeah, before I switched to Legacy GT Wagon, (I was in Japan) I had R32 Skyline GTS4 (GTR chassis with 2.0 engine. it was AWD, though....) and I was so surprised to see Legacy is that Good!! (mine had twin-turbo, so super-fast, spacious cabin, well-balanced H4+AWD etc etc....) If I spend my money on, I can not think of any other car but Subaru!!

I think there are a few ways to name octane ratings. http://www.btinternet.com/~madmole/Reference/RONMONPON.html -

My Imp Outback just passed 1300miles and I notice that suspensions are more stable than used to be. I Engine runs more smoother. I use 89 octane gas because in Japan, regular gas is 90 to 91 RON, which is 89 PON here. When I use 87, I feel power is kind of less. Hope you will get 2.5i !!! -

I just bought 08 Outback Sport. I think the new one looks better on Black Obsidian Pearl with Dark Gray Metalic. other colors, yeah, there are "ouch....", but the actual car looks nicer than the websites and catalogues. Subaru Japan website pictures show the vehicles a little bit nicer, but still the same. Try to look different colors, you may like them. check the pic of my vehicle to see the actual one. -
I just got 08 Impreza Outback Sport, but when I was in Japan, I drove 96 BG5 Legacy GT wagon Twin-Turbo model and I was changing oil with aftermarket brands.... but one day, I went to Subaru dealership and changed oil there. The difference was so obvious (that Legacy had 50,000 miles or so and city traffic mileage) the engine run so smooth after I changed the oil there. Subaru Japan released the oil named "Les Pleiades"(sorry if the spelling wrong) and they made it with ELF brand. 100% Synthetic!!! http://www.elf-lub.jp/pro/subaru.html

I actually work for customs broker, so, if you guys find dual range transmission and need assistance to ship it, I can arrange shipping for you. The service includes booking the shipment (air or ocean), customs clearance, domestic delivery to your door. The new dual range transmission, if I can get 10 bulk orders, I think the price can be (maybe) lowered to around $3500 per item. I'd like to know how much your budget is.

I just thought about one thing...... I have one contact in New Zealand who imports Japanese vehicles. I will ask the guy who works there if he can get used dual range transmission and how much it is.
-
I was surprised to see a quote from subaru. because used ones are not available in Japan and brand new transmissions are ...... well, I know it will be a shock but around $6000. Dual Range Transmission is not common in Japan. That's the reason why there aren't any used dual range transmission available over there, that's what Subaru said. I don't think anyone wants this at this price.
-
Okay, I requested a quote:) Will be posted in a few days.

i got a reply from Subaru Japan. JDM Subaru has dual range transmission on Subaru Forester Yr96 to 02 models. Legacys - Subaru export dept doesn't release the export items non officially, so it is hard for them to release those Liberty parts to individuals. If Forester dual range transmission fits into your vehicles, I will ask the quote to subaru.

I just got an E-mail from Subaru Japan export team, and they can supply dual range transmission to here I’m modifying my post here. I think it's almost impossible to find out the parts number of that transmissions. Instead, I bet Subaru Japan can search for it if we can give them in what vehiles ( year and model) do they have dual range transmissons, then they can look up the parts info.

I'm able to get hold of Subaru Export Dept in Japan and I am discussing about dual range transimission. Give me a few days to give u guys the info such as availability, price, etc...

I got info from Subaru dealership in Japan: 1.Dual Range Transmission: Available on JDM BH model Legacy "Lancaster" and JDM forester SF5 model. Both in 5spd only. Some export models (export from Japan) of Legacy BP/BL have dual range transmission.
