  1. Found a guy two hours away who was selling the configuration I wanted (wagon, EJ22, AWD, 5-speed), checked it out, haggled a little, and drove it home! It's a 1996 Outback with some dents and scratches, but nothing major. I might have paid a little too much, considering it needs new tires, but with how few of this configuration I see for sale, it's alright: Interior is still nice. Engine looks alright. Nothing disconnected or leaking badly. PO saved all the receipts! Bonus. So it's a fun car to drive, and should do a lot better in the snow than my old Beretta did! - Scott
  2. Could you post a YouTube video of the engine running? That might help diagnose the knock if it isn't the distributor -- those tend to "squeal" more. - Scott
  3. That's the great thing about "sealed for life" parts -- they last half as long.
  4. In the old days, they used to pour in a little diesel fuel to burn out the carbon, but that couldn't be good in a fuel-injected, computer-controlled modern engine.
  5. Syncros are great. I want an old Pinzgauer, too, but that's enough blasphemy from this new member. - Scott
  6. You must be talking about the watercooled ones. We aircooled guys like our tires tall and skinny! - Scott
  7. Interesting, I thought the bucket lifters and interference design came together at the exact same time for MY1997. Learn something new every day! - Scott
  8. Grats! They pulled down the listing in a hurry. Do you have any pics? - Scott P.S. Sucks about the automatic, though...
  9. How true. I've been looking for an AWD, manual, EJ22 wagon for a month or two now, and it's tough here in Iowa. Either they didn't sell many of that configuration here in the Midwest, or no one wants to give them up! I found a guy two hours away that's selling one, and he's had people from Wisconsin calling him! - Scott
  10. A few companies make 185R14 snow tires. Those would be about 2" taller than what you have. - Scott
  11. Looks too nice to part, though. Why not try rebuilding the engine for fun?
  12. Couldn't have said it better myself. Round headlamps always help. - Scott
