  1. I think my shock/struts are toast. I know my rear right one is, but the rear left one (driver side) seems fine, but when I turn right hard or hit a bump the driver's side bottoms out. Here is the problem. My car is a little.....tweaked.....and I didn't do the tweaking. So I don't know what struts they put under there. It has the AA lift on it I think. I was told it is the old AA demo rig. Anyway, anyone have any suggestions on finding out which struts I have and how to fix my bottoming out problem? Thanks, Pyro
  2. I think this is correct. I have the old AA demo rig, and it has blocks under each end of the mustache bar. It was a 3inch rear lift, I added another inch to it.
  3. I'm thinking that this would be a lot better with some PICS!!!
  4. Everyone who said take it in and have it tested gets a gold star Went to autozone after work this morning and popped it off and had them test it. FAIL:eek: $75 later I'm running gremlin light free. Thanks to everyone for the help!! ~G
  5. My warning lights (ecu/bat/stop/e-brake) seem to be coming on faintly once and a while. (more often than not lately.) My voltage is fine (13-16) and it runs fine when the battery is unhooked. It is a carbed 86 ea82 5spd. Any ideas? Wanting to myself right about now.
  6. Check the choke. Mine was doing the same thing. Had really black sooty plugs. Opened up the choke and now it runs fine. Just need to figure out how to adjust the choke now. Best of luck!
  7. I think i have found it......The choke was FUBAR'ed....That seems to have caused it. I am surprised nobody suggested it though. Now I need to figure out how to adjust the choke, but at least it is running better.
  8. Great! I love having this kind of resource available. The Soob Guru have come through again! Sounds like my secondary air bleed is too small and main is too big, which would explain the gas smell and sooty plugs. And my idle jet is a 70, not 50. Anyone know an easy place to find these with out having to pay out the A$$ for them? Hope I can get this hammered out, my suburban (454 v8) is getting the same gas millage as this Subaru running like this 11-13mpg) Thanks again, ~G
  9. Still not impressed....played with the timing, helped a little. Spark plugs are VERY black and smell like gas. I think i stumbled upon a bigger problem though......(see thread:http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=85403) regarding the messed up timing. Might be 180 off, but i know JACK S*** about these cars. (that's changing slowly:clap: ) Still wondering if I can pull the distributer and re-align it.......not sure. I'll have to check the book. Thanks for the interest and any suggestions. Also, I'm getting around 11-13 mpg (best I can figure it). what should I be getting w/ EA82, Webber, oversize tires? Thanks.... ~G
  10. Ok, I'm still trying to hunt down the issues w/my soob. Here is a pic of my carb. Can someone please tell me what jets are what (main/idle/secondary....ect.) and what they should be....140-170 ect. I am guessing the large screws in the front and back are the idle screws. Right now they are 1-150 2-160 3-150 4-140 front screw 70 rear screw 50 Also found out my firing order is all messed up. I changed it to what the chilton manual said: and it wouldn't start. :-\ now i have to figure out how they were before.... I'm wondering if my distributer is off 180 deg.......can i just pull it out, turn it, and put it back in? as always, any help would be great... Thanks.
  11. So, do you change the timing, then adjust the carb, or vice versa? I did notice when i got it the timing was a little advanced, but I just set it where the book told me to (8 deg.) and that's when i noticed the lack of *umph* :-\ I'll try it.
  12. Well, i was able to remove the tube. Still not very peppy at full throttle. Gonna see if i swapped the jets on accident.....not sure if that is possible. (new at tinkering w/webers) Before..... After....
  13. My weber is giving me crappy milage. It also has the dead spot at wide open throttle. I wonder if my choke it acting up too...... oh, and the gas leak would be real easy to find. just start a small fire in the street and drive slowly over it.
  14. I added acetone to my Jeep (4.0 FI) and it went from 14-16 to 19-21 mpg. But when added to my v8 Bronco (carb) Nothing.....It did seem to help. No nasty effects were noticed.
  15. On the way home i removed the filter. Still bogged down. (the hood does hit the hose but not enough to crush it.) I removed the hose....only bogged down a tiny bit. Hard to even notice. But better for sure. So....do i change the jets? Would a mixed up set of jets cause this? Still not sure where to go with this. Thanks for the help so far.
  16. I guess some pictures would help. My car used to have a snorkel on it. There was no filter and the black tube coming from the carb was just poked through a hole in the fender. All I did was duct tape a cone filter to the end of it. I took it off yesterday and washed it. No change. The filter seems large enough. I don't know were to go from here....
  17. My 86 ea82 with a webber is having issues at wide open throttle. It boggs down like it is not getting enough fuel. Checked the fuel pressure, adjusted the carb, timing, ect with out any results. Could not figure it out. For an air filter it has a aftermarket k&n type cone filter. Out of desperation I removed the filter and ran it..... PRESTO! Here is my question: Is this normal? I cant believe this filter wont handle the airflow and it does not appear clogged at all. When I bought the car it had a snorkel on it and no filter which would explain why it drove home fine. Just wondering if anyone else with webbers have had this issue. Thanks, ~G
  18. does anyone know what jets should be in a webber on an ea82? (and I did replace the plugs)
  19. Would a float out of adjustment cause this? I cleaned the carb, replaced the fuel filter and i'm getting 2.5-3 psi of fuel like webber said I need. Still stuck on this issue.
  20. That looks great. I have an 86 4D hatch with a 4inch too. But a much worse paint job.
  21. I have over a 1/2inch of play on the left tire. The top of the tie rod wiggled bad. I picked up a lightly used rack from aarons auto in Seattle and it looks to be in great shape. Anyone have any tips hints or wise words to give on the install of this thing? I have never messed with the steering in anything, so this is new to me. Thanks
  22. I did check the engine. His is an "EA81" and is the rounded body style, mine is an "EA82" and is the sharper square body style. Sound like im screwed. Thanks for the help.
  23. Ok, I did search the forum...did not find what I was looking for. I am kinda new to the subarus and I need to know what from a 4door GL 85 ea81 will fit on a 86 4 door gl ea82. Mine (the 86) has been rode hard and put away wet. I am sure I will be in the market for some parts (running gear mostly) that I dont want to pay full price for. I have found an 85 for cheap as a parts car, but i'ts a different body style and engine. I need to know if there is ANYTHING on there I would be able to use. I was told I need a new rack and pinion today when I took the beast down to get it aligned. They quoted me $1,200+ to fix that and the struts. :-\ Didn't pay that much for the car. Any way, wondering if I should go to the trouble of grabbing this parts car......if not, anyone in central Washington need a parts car? (he said it overheats bad) Thanks for any info you guys can provide.... Cheers..... ~g
  24. Ok, I bought this beast (86 gl) with a webber on it. I did NONE of the mods to this car. It seems to diesel about half the time when I shut it off. It also bogs down/cuts out at WOT in 2nd gear. I know absolutely Jack about adjusting these engines/carbs. Is this normal? How do I adjust the mixture? (noob<----------ME:dead: ) Thanks again...... ~G
