  1. Ya know...that's not a bad idea. I really do want those rear discs.
  2. Well, I drove to his place and looked it over. It doesn't have the LSD. It started right up but has a miss. What i didn't know was that it doesn't have a clear title. Rear discs are the only thing I'd use and not worth 200 bucks to me. Thanks for the input.
  3. Hey guys, A friend of mine offered to sell me the car--he's moving and selling all of his "junk". I drive an '88 GL D/R with a tired motor. At first I thought I would just swap the motors...but I really don't want the turbo nightmare. Still, I believe that car has rear disk brakes and a LSD, right? So I ask you: Will those disks and diff swap onto my beloved wagon? Will that diff, when mated to my Dual-Range be better off road? I like exploring the fire roads and beaches around here but it's nothing crazy. The tranny is the push button type and the motor still runs ok. There is rust but it's only on the places where the paint is chipped. Anyway, do I buy it and part it out or should I turn my back?
  4. Didn't know about the kit, awesome! Thanks very much for the tips, guys. I hope to hit it up on my next day off, Probably Monday.
  5. Thanks for the tips GD. I didn't know you could hammer them in and out. Guess I should buy a set of drifts. Put the SA into the vise and hammer carefully, huh?
  6. The tire is new, replaced after the bearing. Bad rim? I don't understand. Do you mean it could be out of round and somehow affecting the bearing? Thanks for the reply...
  7. Hey fellows, need some advice... I have a 1987 dual range 4wd gl that keeps chewing up rear, passenger side bearings. Rather than waste another $80 and 5 hours of my life I've decided to post in hopes that someone might be able to shed some light on the problem. I removed the rear swing-arm six months ago when the bearing began making a grinding sound. I had the old bearing pressed out and a new, well packed bearing pressed in at a local shop. Well, it's bad again. Grinding, play, the whole nine yards. My question: could it be that the axle is slightly bent and fragging the bearing? If it is, then it must be very slight because it makes no vibration at speed. Could it be the swing-arm? I went to the salvage yard to find a different swing-arm but had no luck (would have cost the price of a new bearing anyway plus the price of an alignment). Any ideas? Thanks, Tide.
  8. 2K4 STI: I'll get some pics up ASAP. This weekend, maybe. diablo: Good call. Is the EA82 an interference engine? GD: Thanks for the, um, positive feedback. Think I'll skip the SPFI and get a Weber... Dude: Your right, there is A LOT of info here. In fact, this is where I caught the Subie bug. The Legacy fell into my lap and was good to me but the first time I saw a picture of a lifted 4WD wagon on this board I knew I had to have one. That's why I'm pretty excited to have found a DR Loyale in such good shape for so cheap. As for keeping the Legacy, well, I just don't want two cars. If the GL takes a dump I'll fix her as I can. I walk to school/work anyway... Duriana717: Thanks for the link. Might just pull the thing out and install an extra power port. Oh, and I sold the Leggie for $2000. Had 234,000 on it. I guess now I should read and prioritze my mods/repairs. Do I Lift before getting shocks? That sort of thing...
  9. Sunny Brae. Between Arcata and Bayside. Been here since 2005 and love it...
  10. Hey everyone... Last week I visited a friend of my father and spotted a dusty, cream colored Subie in the corner of his shop. I started looking at it and realized it was in pretty nice shape. No rust, no dents, just missing some side trim. The interior was clean, no tears or cracks. Everything on it was original--even had all the original paper work! So....While I've been driving a 1995 5sp AWD Legacy for about 3 years now and love(d) it, I just couldn't help myself. That extra shift lever with the 4wd embossed on it made me crazy! I offered him $600 and he agreed! That same day I sold my Leggy to raise the cash. Some of my friends think I'm crazy ("Why would you sell a '95 to buy an '87?!") but all they think about is model years. Anyway, It's a 1987 GL. CA car. Carb, DR 5spd with just over 200,000 miles on the clock. Both 4wd and cruise-control work beautifully. Only issues so far are a blank clock, a flashing CEL and a slight steering wheel shake at 60+ mph. I sold my Leggy for much more than $600 so I have some cash to sink into it. I don't want to go overboard but I am willing to do everything I need to do in order to make it as bulletproof as my 95. Here's what I'm thinking: *Seafoam the bugger and then replace the coil, rotor, cap, wires, plugs and O2 sensor. *New K&N air filter *2" muffler *Change ALL fluids *New valve cover gaskets *New front axles *New shocks *New tires *New Bearings *New Brake lines/Brakes *4 wheel alignment I'm thinking that after all of the above is done and I figure out the CEL, I'll have one sweet, reliable wagon. Did I miss anything? Any advice? ~ T i d e ~~~
  11. Sweet looking ride. Where'd you get the light bar?
  12. Yep, same deal, the plastic cracked. I've looked in every yard in my area with no luck. :-\ Really? WTF? My '95 is definitely plastic... Thanks for the link but isn't that for just the pulley (item 13)? I need what I guess is item 16.
  13. The AC tensioner on my '95 Leg. is broken as well. It's not a problem until it rains and then is squeals something terrible. Been looking for that part for a while now with no luck. How were you able to tighten yours? Why the ^%$ did they make it out of plastic anyway?!
  14. Hey all! I'm really glad I found this place. I have a '95 Legacy wagon. AWD, 5-speed. It's the best car I've ever had. I bought it in 2005 with just over 196,000 miles on it. The odometer now reads ~ 230,000 and it still runs awesome. I'm hoping to get 300,000! Looking forward to getting to know y'all. Cheers, Tide
