  1. Although I'm on Sube #2 (04 GT Wagon), I've never replaced the tranny oil myself. Looks like a Torx / star head, which I don't have a set of. Can anyone tell me which size head it is? I've searched and can't find. Thanks for the help. Of course, now I've found it: T70. Please ignore.
  2. 114K and '94 spells unreliable to me. At that point in PA you worry about things rusting, like the fuel tank (my old '96 Legacy), etc. I'd go for the 57K (a nice low number) and definitely get your mechanic to look it over before buying. Ask them what else has been done to it (belts?).
  3. Go with a Legacy - cheaper and the same car as the OB, minus the gimmicks. Better yet, the Legacy GT. Ever try to fit three people in the back seat of a Forester? It's a goofy-sized machine - seems like it should be big, but it isn't.
  4. I love Nokians. I had an old set of what became the WRs on my 96 Legacy and I could go anywhere. I have them on my other car. The other posters are correct that they will give you a mushier road feel, as the sidewalls are not as stiff. I can imagine that, on a GT, they would be a bummer. Having lived in Vermont, I eventually made the decision that the Subie didn't need winter tires at all. Unless you are facing some really burly weather, you might want to go with more of an all season Nokian with stiffer sidewalls to handle dry roads better.
  5. Not enough 6 cyl. Subies out there yet for me to get one. The new 2.5 beats the crap out of the old 2.2, and both are solid. My GT is plenty of fun to drive with the 2.5.
  6. Thanks! That was my guess. I think I'll try the compressed air approach first and pray that it solves the problem. Not looking forward to pulling the headliner out.
  7. My GT has 16s - 205/55, to be exact. I can;t imagine they've changed the setup enough for that not to work. Got to tirerack and see what they say about sizing up.
  8. Thanks for the help! That was awesome. I'll check it out - my leakage is appearing more on the passenger side, so maybe there are 4 drain holes? I am getting water down the rear passenger pillar and out of the middle child seat tether location.
  9. Having been the proud owner of a 96 Legacy, I recently upgraded to an 04 GT. Unfortunately, the upgrade included those two stupid sunroofs, one of which is now leaking. I see in other posts that the drains need to be blown out regularly with compressed air, but of course this is stated nowhere in the manual. My questions are these: 1. Where are these drains, anyway? I don't see them when I look. 2. Has anyone had luck getting Subaru to pay for the fix, if necessary. The GT is past warranty, but I feel like this is a manufacturing defect.
  10. I actually loved my Potenza RE92s and replaced them with G009s. I've had no issues.
  11. It's a small detail, but anyone out there have a 35th Anniv.? I bought one used from a dealer in Jan, and have the sneaking suspicion that I should have gotten one of those automatic lock key fob dealies, as the car beeps when I close the door after I lock it. Did I get hosed?
  12. I will be running all-seasons. I feel like I don't really need snows in Boston with the Sube. Thanks for the recommendations.
  13. I know this has been done many times, but I can't seem to find a thread specific enough to the GT. Anyone out there have recommendations for the 205/55 16's? I can't see spending over $100 per tire, but I don't necessarily want a sissy H-rated tire either. Any help is much appreciated.
  14. Newish to MA, oldish to Sube. Looking for a good independent Sube mechanic on the south shore. Any MA residents with experience out there? Thanks!
  15. Anybody put GR2s on the wagon and notice that the rear end rides higher? Did I ************ up?
  16. About to replace struts and was hoping to get advice from the experienced USMB folks. Any problem spots / things to watch out for? Recommendations on manufacturers? Thanks!
  17. Jason- I'd love to hear how your work goes, as I am pondering the same job myself on my 96 Legacy. Any hairy problems?
  18. $5000 seems like an awful lot of cash for a 98 with 191K. You can definitely find something cheaper with fewer miles, IMHO.
  19. Anyone had success or experience with fixing rear gate lock? My handle has been getting progressively rustier and has gotten to the point where I can't get the gate open at all. I'm looking for an indication of how easy this will be to fix. Any experience? Thanks!
  20. We have the same problem with our 96 Legacy. I've been told it's leaking ductwork, but it often means that my wife and I have to seriously customize the heat settings. Anyone else have the problem?
