  1. Well, now the brakes are completely useless. Pedal goes right to the floor when the car is turned on. I tried bleeding them, and some air came out during the process, but the pedal still goes straight to the floor now... Fantastic.
  2. If you're asking who the manufacturer was, I don't know. Looking at the invoice though, it appears it's a remanufactured one anyhow. So, that's probably not the best thing. My cousin helped me replace the driver's side cv axle about a year and a half ago. By "help", I mean I watched him do it, and attempted to assist him when I could. Nothing higgy happened after he was done, but he worked at a Subaru dealership as a mechanic for a few years so I reckon he knew what he was doing. I attempted this repair myself, but I don't have air tools, and I managed to half round the head of the bolt that holds the steering knuckle on, hence why I brought it to the shop instead.
  3. The severity of the shaking doesn't really change much if I'm accelerating or decelerating or whatever. I just don't like getting one problem fixed, only to create 2 new problems that weren't there before. I'll call them on Monday and *************** about it...I'll assume they had one of their "non-experts" do the repair. He/She must have glanced over the section in the FSM that tells them to index the position of all vital parts before removal...We'll see. Thanks for the reply.
  4. I had something similar happen with my 97' Legacy wagon. It turned out to be the front passenger's side caliper had seized up.
  5. Had my passenger side front CV axle replaced today. Now the steering wheel shakes at all speeds, and I have to push the brake pedal almost to the floor to stop the vehicle. Did the mechanic throw off the alignment when he replaced the CV axle assembly??? I'm bringing it back Wednesday to get the passenger side wheel bearings replaced...hopefully they don't try to charge me for a front-end alignment, as it wasn't a problem before I brought it in.... Oh, it's an AWD 97' Subaru Brighton wagon. What do you folks think?
  6. That seems to be the scenario. Unfortunately I'm up in NY right now with all the fun snow and a tiny garage packed full of crap, so looks like I'll just have to suffer through it for a while. I know it's not the valve covers, head gaskets nor the cam seals. All I know for a fact is that it's leaking somewhere that I can't see without removing ************. Which lead me to believe it's the rear main seal or some other seal in that vicinity. I'll try replacing the PCV valve to see if it reduces the flow at all. Thanks to everyone that replied.
  7. I've had a minor oil leak for some time now, but it hasn't been severe enough to worry about. WELL, on a recent drive down to Florida from NY it started leaking pretty substantially to the point where it's dripping down onto the Y pipe and back towards the resonator, etc... Needless to say, it stinks really bad, while leaking steadily enough to require me to replenish the oil level every 2 weeks or so. I've replaced the passenger side rear cam seal, which was leaking slightly, but it didn't really help at all. I'm hoping it's not the rear main seal, but I honestly don't know enough to make an educated guess as to where the major leak is. Any insight is greatly appreciated. 96' Legacy Brighton wagon MTX 1.2L
  8. That's how I got a bunch of metal shavings out of a cylinder...:-\
  9. I buddy of mine uses that sticker and label remover in an aerosol can. He said it's quite effective.
  10. Been trying to locate a condenser for my 87' wagon. I think it's probably one of the only things preventing me from having AC. No parts stores carry them. Even checked an AC parthouse. No dice. Dealer item only???
  11. No, it's a male and female connector. They're separated by default. Just plug them together...
  12. On my 87' wagon it's by the drivers side firewall near the windshield washer pump. It's actually a green plug. Pretty easy to find.
  13. I drive my 5 speed 87' wagon to work everyday 60 miles there and back on the highway. I average 80mph on the highway. Mixed with the grocery getting during the week I average 29 mpg. If I did straight highway I'm guessing I'd get 35-38. No special goodies in the engine either.
  14. Got it sorted. Apparently I was temporarily blind and didn't see the 2 phillips head screws on the back of the housing. I almost stripped the head of one of the screws getting it out though. Also, found a good way of getting the armature back in. Take a 3/4 socket and place it over the bearing at the end. The back of the socket is tapered so you can get the brushes around it pretty easily. Then just ease it in slowly and it'll slide past the socket and onto the commutator. Yay! Thanks for the quick replies guys.
