  1. Hey all, I'm looking for a picture from a catalog that shows a number of different 1st gen. Legacy body kits. I would say that there may have been 7 or 10 different kits shown on the page, all pictured on the cars. I think the writing was in Japanese, but I'm not sure. I used to have this pic on my old computer but it crashed and now I'm looking for it and can't find it. Thanks for any help!!! -MR
  2. My EJ22T had SOHC 2.5 heads, metal caskets and ARP fasteners. IIRC (it was some time ago) it was making around 350 @ wheels at 15 psi and something like 385 at 18psi. I could have boosted higher, but it was the only engine I had and couldn't afford a replacement. There is a guy in Australia that has a gold '90 or '91 that is making something like 400kw -MR
  3. There are drums on an '03? I thought my CRX was the last of the drummed cars... I had 4-wheel disc on my '91 Legacy Turbo, but I can't remember if they came that way or if I did it - for maintenence's and safety's sake, discs are far superior to drums. You'll be glad that you did the swap (just try to get your brake bias a little toward the front or you may have a fishtailer on hard stops) -MR
  4. I'd say fix it and keep it. If you let it deteriorate, you'll get virtually nothing for it when you do sell it. If you keep it and not fix it, it can get dangerous. Unless you really need the money, there are a lot of times when a wagon will come in very handy. Most of the parts you need you can get at an auto recycler's or junkyard for cheap. There's no doubt that you could get another 2 years of winter-only use out of it as is, but if you don't fix it, you will start to develop other problems... -MR
  5. Paul Eklund at http://www.writerguy.com/primitive/ may hagve what you're looking for. If it doesn't appear on his website, E-mail him with the year and model and he may have something or be able to find something. -MR
  6. Could be that it is a good condition pad but the wrong one or poorly installed. Could also be the hub too, and the cold could make any metal contract a tiny tiny bit and accentuate any flaws allready present. Does it change under braking or when you're in reverse? -MR
  7. Besides the obvious addition or a turbine and reworked exhaust and intake piping, is the only difference between EJ22 and EJ22T just in the ECU? How hard would it be to make an EJ22 into an EJ22T? -MR
  8. My '91 wagon had KYB's non-adjustables and I couldn't complain one bit! Once you get them, legacycentral.org has a great write-up of installation with planey of pics. -MR
  9. I had this problem for a little while in my '91 - it turns out that one of my ignition wires was broken in it's insulation, and the warming of the engine bay was enough to make the insulation expand and seperate the wire. I changed the plug wires and had no problem after that. I can see how changing the air filter and fuel filter may have helped a tiny bit, since it possibly could have made the engine run a few degrees cooler (not working as hard to make the same power) but it could have just been coincedence. If it happens while you're on the road, pull into a parking lot and open the hood and listen for the "click" of the spark plug at each cylinder. If there's one that you don't hear, jiggle that wire and see if that helps, or pull it out of the little H-shaped ignition unit that has 1-2-3-4 on it and plug it back in. If you live in a particurlarly humid or salty environment (New England, by the beach, Seattle, etc) then its possible that the distribution block has corrosion inside of it. Alternatively, it may not be any sort of ignition problem at all and be a fuel delivery issue or something completely different. I hope this helps! -MR
  10. I E-mailed him about 5 years ago asking for Legacy parts, and he showed my what he had. I am sure that he has a fiberglass Legacy air-dam (I think with splitter). IIRC, I think it's for 93-98 or somewhere in there. He's a super-helpful and nice guy who would help you in any way he can (and his prices are really cheap to boot!) -MR
  11. Forgot to mention - the WRX/Imprezza wing isn't quite the right size to fit on the leagacy, but with a little ingenuity it will fit. The bottom of the WRX bumper can be grafted on to the top of the Legacy bumper (because the headlights don't fit) without much trouble. If you're in CO, and are really looking for a good specimen, look in the AZ area - none of the native cars have any rust there, and even though it is a bit of a drive, it may be well worth it. I'm sure that Autotrader will have SOMETHING to work with. Legacy would save you lots of money on insurance, and the Legacy can be put on a heck of a diet to gain back some of that nimbleness that it lost over the years. -MR
  12. How much older are you looking for? I had a full SVX body kit that I had adapted for my '91 that looked awesome, but I don't know if it woulnd fit anything after 2nd gen. I think Rhys/Rod Millen motorsports [millenmotorsports.com ?] carry (or carried) parts for 2nd and 3rd gen Legacies, and sometimes you can find the extraneous body kit on Ebay. Paul Eklund (if you can find him, maybe on google) had front air dams for $200 that fit 93+ (IIRC). I'm sure that you could adapt just about any body kit with enough effort, if if you have a spare bumber I could fiberglass you one for relatively cheap. It's been years since I was trying to source Legacy parts, so most of my leads are sketchy. If you have certian things that you're looking for, you could PM me or E-mail me (skumof_theearth@hotmail.com) and I can try and track you down something. I hope this helps, and good luck with the new car! -MR
  13. There is a wide powerband in the flat four too! Back when I had my Legacy Turbo, (and used to street race it out in the boonies), I beat: IROC Camaro BMW 3-Series (several) '98 Firebird (2) 5.0 Mustang Honda CRX's, Civics, Preludes (too many to count) Turbo Volvo's (several) The only cars I remember beating me were a Buick Gran National (a 12-second drag car though), a highly tuned WRX, a B18 CRX, and a ZR-1 Corvette. Of course, this was with ported heads, a T25 Turbo, Modified Starion Intercooler, custom-fabbed plennium, 3-angle valve job, custom exhaust, custom intake, modified ECU, and a host of other weight and performance modifications. To top it off, this was all in a silver wagon, so the sleeper value was unmatched! God, I miss that car...
  14. It's not exactly Subaru to Subaru, but I'm working on putting an EJ20T into my Honda CRX... If I can get just the motor (the Nippon Price is amazing, is that for everything except Wiring harness?) I was going to try and mate it to a 1st Gen. Legacy Turbo (EJ22T) driveline and put in a heavy duty clutch and beefier axles to withstand the extra power. I know it's kind of absurd to do this swap, but I was hoping that someone may be able to help me with the red flags before I have a motor and transmission in the CRX with nothing moving... I used to own a 91 Legacy Turbo that was putting out about 300 hp until it was killed in a flood when I moved down to FL, so the EJ22 is my second choice - might it be the better chioce? THANKS! -MR
