  1. Yeah that is what I'm suspecting for the no start. I am probably gonna got out and tinker around in a little bit. As for the rumble I was thinking that it was being put back together wrong. I was not around as they were putting everything back together so I didnt get a chance to check out everything. Greg
  2. Hey, I had a 96 impreza and the computer would not allow the emission test. My mechanic at the time gave my car back to me and said to drive it a bit. I was driving about 300-400 miles a week at the time so it was no problem to get some miles on it. Moral of the story is that my cars computer never a emission test to be performed. It was a pita the first time. had to get a whole bunch of legal exempt papers from Harrisburgh, pa. With me being in pittsburgh. Luckily my mechanic took care of all of it, but it did take almost 2 weeks to get everything said and done. Dont know if this helps. But if this is the case try to go somewhere where their willing to help you out. I would have been sol with a bunch of failed emissions if I would have went any where else. Greg
  3. Ok so I finally got my car back today with the new exedy clutch. The clutch feels great nice ad tight. I'm still taking it easy and giving it a decent break in period. My main concern is that now my car has a really bad rumble. It seems to be worse at lower speeds. I was on the highway for a couple of miles coming home from school and it was noticeable at points but then would almost go away. Could that be caused by the new clutch and needing to break in? One other thing, I ran out to the store parked my car and came back out no more than 5 mins later and my car would not start. Turn the key all interior accessories would come on but nothing from the starter. After a couple of tries it started right up. I going to try and get it looked at tomorrow by one of my instructors. But any ideas would be a great help. Thanks, Greg
  4. Hey I just noticed who your picture is. Bubbles Rules!!!

  5. I wish I had a bigger jack and stands. I'm not sure whether I will be doing the job or not I might be able to get my car into my school and get it done there. Unfortunately I'm not in the shop as of now, so will have to let other people do it. Greg
  6. Oh wow that does seem way easier to do then dealing with all of the engine components. I'm going to have to check it out, my main difficulty with removing anything is I have a lot of rust on everything. And the fact that it is right around 20 degrees outside.
  7. Well thanks for all of your help. I actually ordered an exedy clutch kit from ebay for 150. Seems to be a good price, I hope(gulp) I'll let you know how it turns out. Also has anyone replaced their clutch with only removing the radiator and disconnecting the tranny then just pushing the engine forward a bit. Oh and disconnecting the headers. Thanks, Greg
  8. Hey great thanks for all the replies. I am going to start looking for one tomorrow and hopefully get it by wednesday. I really dont go for cheapest, it really comes to best reasonable price but with that there are quite a few choices for reasonable prices. Thats what caused me to start asking for other input. Which has been very helpful. I will update with what I end up getting. Thanks Again, Greg
  9. Hey thanks, I will be dong an entire clutch kit. Also I am contemplating getting a new flywheel as well. I might just wait until I get to the clutch to see whether the flywheel is bad or not. I have never heard of the valeo kit. I have been checking on ebay for kits but the best I could find I think was the exedy clutch kit. I have found on line some stores the have the sachs and aisin? clutch kits but I dont know much about either. Also are the clutch kits very specific to model year? Or are the transmissions used for the 1.8 and 2.2 the same? Thanks Again, Greg
  10. My 97 impreza does the same thing as well. I read on mitchells program that this is common for imprezas at first start up. Let the car warm up and it should go away. If it persists then you want to start checking into it
  11. I have a 97 impreza that almost certainly needs a new clutch. I have been looking around for decent priced clutches but am still very weary as to what one to get. I have read on some threads awhile ago for good replacement clutches but was unable to find what thread that was. I have had a lot of luck with good replies to any question's I have had in the past and hope that you guys can help me out with this one. I appreciate any info you could throw my way. I am not looking for any performance clutch really I just need a good factory replacement. Thanks, Greg
  12. That truly is an amazing looking brat. I hope to be getting a gen1 brat and dong about the same thing only difference is I would hold on to mine.
  13. Ok so heres my situation, My car has developed a pretty severe "buck" when I am trying to either let off the gas or trying to down shift. Also when I am coasting it can get really bad. When I am stopped my car runs fine. Idles smooth and there are no codes. Although it has started to idle around 1000-1200 rpms. Prior it would be around 600-800rmps. It has just over 90k on it, about 82k I did the timing belt water pump and crank shaft seal. I have not replaced the clutch and dont know whether it is the original or not. If it is and its bad could this be the cause? Or could it be a transmission issue? I have also noticed that when I am shifting into 2nd and 3rd there is a bit of a knock as the clutch engages. I dont know if this helps for a description. Thanks, Greg
  14. Hey thanks for all the input. I did not realize how complicated it could be with the gen 1 brats for swaps. I have been toying with the idea of putting a bit of a lift on it which seems to help with the issue of clearance with a 5 speed swap. None the less it seems like a fair amount of work. I wish i was a little more into the 2nd gen brats because their easier to work with. I do need to look around some more and do a little bit more research as far as swaps go. As far as rebuilding the original engine, is it worth it are there any engine modifications to help get a little extra power. Better connecting rods, Piston heads? ect. Yet again thanks for all the input. Greg
  15. Hey thanks for the responses. I know the gen 1 brat are tiny thats why I like them so much. I figured it would be a tight fit, but wasnt to sure of how tight. It seems like the h6 is a little too big of a project for me, but the ej22 might be possible. With the tranny swap I figured i would have to do that but was hoping that they made and adapter plate. There are adapter plates for the gen 2 brats and ej22 right? But anyways would a standard impreza tranny fit in the brat. Or would you have to go with a dual range because that is what the brat had originally. As for the turbo I have heard that the ej22 take to low boost really well and that is probably what I might want to do. Im not looking for mass amounts of power but a little bit more power is always nice. Would the exhaust system be a little easier to do if you use side pipes?? I have seen quite a few with the side exhaust but dont know whether that is just cosmetic or what. Thanks again for the responses Greg
  16. Hey I have been toying with the idea of getting a project together because I have started classes for auto technician and would like to have something to do. With that said I have been thinking of trying to do a H6 into a first generation? brat(ones with the round headlights) I dont know whether it could even fit in the engine bay. And if that will not work I have heard of people doing the 2.2 swap into the which seems like it could be pretty straight forward. What about a ej22t? That would fit aw well right? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Greg
  17. Hey, I have been playing with the idea of trying to swap my 97 obs with a 92 legacy 2.2 turbo. I am trying to get an idea of weather this is along the same lines as doing a wrx swap or is it a little more of a drop in due to the fact of matching 2.2 engines. Also I am under the impression that the legacy turbo is not that big so will swapping out the tranny and diff be necessary or would the n/a tranny and diff be strong enough. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Do the legacys have a hydraulic clutch or cable???
  18. I got my 97 outback sport a couple of months ago with 73k on it for 2700, there are some rust issues and had to fix the cat back exhaust but completely worth it. It took me close to six months to find a decent mileage and priced car, many p were looking for 5-7k for imprezas with 100k plus on them. So if you can talk them down its a good deal. Nothing talks better than cash in hand. Bring what you want to pay for it and if they dont like it hold out and one will come around.
  19. EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS THANK YOU!!! Now I get to put the new plugs and wires in again, Thanks so much. Greg
  20. I just did a regular tune up on my sport wagon and with the new wires and spark plugs the car would start then stall out, I put the old wires and plugs in which were working when removed just minutes earlier and the car is still stalling out. I have no idea what is wrong, I hope it is something small. Any ideas suggestions please let me know. I really need my car running by tomorrow(monday) thanks Greg
  21. I will need the entire right quarter panel going into where the door fits a little(hopefully just surface rust)need to check into it, but really on the wheel well.
  22. yeah I have been looking around online for body panels and no luck. Especially trying to find a rust free panel. I have not checked into the dealership for replacement panels because I know it will cost me a arm and a leg. I have found on line a wide body wagon kit that gives replacement quarter panles the rear doors and front fenders for a pretty decent price.
  23. I have a 97 wagon that had really bad rust on the right rear quarter panel, I was trying to either find a replacement? if that is more cost efficient than finding a shop to do the work. I am in the pittsburgh pa area and was just trying to get pointed in the right direction. I have not been led wrong here sp far. Thanks, Greg
  24. Yeah I was planning on having all the components changed when I had the belt done. I have never delt with a timing belt in any of my previous cars and I am trying to get as much information as I can. Greg
