  1. it means your valves never open enough to hit a piston. The only time you worry about valves hitting pistons is when a timing belt breaks.
  2. FYI, I retained my stock legacy springs and it's plenty tall for me. I think it's just shy of 13" at the rockers
  3. I also just changed all 4. I did it by myself though, it's not that bad. the only part that was tricky was keeping the strut up while securing the top 3 bolts but it was easy enough to use a jack to keep the strut up.
  4. The only part you need to buy is the struts, the rest of the parts can be re-used (springs, boots, rubber parts). You'll need to rent/buy/borrow a spring compressor to swap the springs from one strut to the other. It's a pretty straight forward job but the 2 large bolts on the bottom of the strut can be a bear. Good luck.
  5. I called Delta and had a few questions cleared up about the 2.2 cam regrind that people have talked about in this thread. The regrinds work with HLA's. Since there is no adjustment with HLA's you have to use shims to make up the difference. I believe they provide the shims. If you have a head with HLA's and would like to convert it to a solid lifter head, the 2.2 solid lifter rockers bolts right on. I asked if the 1.8 rockers would work (I believe those were solid too) and he said it may.
  6. Can I convert my early 2.2 HLA heads to solid lifter? I have 2 early 2.2 motors to build with my 2.5 short block and would rather not buy more heads if I don't have to.
  7. Big thanks to all the members here who've already done this mod and posted about it so I'd have the confidence in lifting my Subaru. Here is my 1990 Legacy with 1997 KYB outback struts, Yokahama Geolander 215/60/R16 AT-S tires and WRX wheels. This is probably the biggest tire this body will take with this lift without trimming sheet metal. I may want to trim a little on the rear quarter just to be safe. The lift angle made my bad axles unusable within 2 miles so I've got some new axles in there too...
  8. I'll check in with my mileage... 1990 Legacy manual with 323,xxx It runs great, shifts great, gets 26 mpg, 120 PSI (±1) in each cylinder. It needs tires and shocks though. I had to replace the rear end for about $30 a couple of thousand miles ago.
  9. double clutch or heal and toe? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_clutch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heel-and-toe
