  1. STD's were indeed the bottom of the line. No options at all, not even carpet!! There's one at the junkyard here, instead of carpet it has a black rubber coating on the floor.
  2. Got myself another XT today! Picked her up from a mechanic for $200 cash. She had been sitting behind his shop for 5 months, at the 6 month mark she would have gone to the junkyard. 149K miles, body is pretty solid for this part of the country. The car is an '88 2WD DL, bare bones, no options at all. It's a VERY good runner, purred (or shall I say roared, BIG exhaust leak) all the way home. This car will most likely become my daily driver for when the turbo XT is having work done. Can't wait to get her legally registered so I can drive her around. Pics are in my USMB album at http://usmb.net/gallery/albun88 Now if I could just be like Paul and find these things for free....
  3. Possibly could check a cruise equipped turbo car to see what the source of the vacuum is. Then you could use that vacuum pump or whatever it is to adapt an aftermarket system to. If I knew where to look I'd check my car for it; it has turbo and cruise.
  4. Paul, the Dr. is right- the 4 speed is electronically controlled. Needs a few extra wiring harnesses plus a brain box, also a different shifter. There may be even more that's different.
  5. The yard up here has an 87.5 XT FT4WD turbo with a spider intake on it. I'm also really interested in converting over to it. Sorry guys, this one is MINE.
  6. I forgot, it was in Off Topic. Here's the link: http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2779
  7. I posted a thread about this Paul, wasn't too much interest in it at all. I'll bring it back to the top.
  8. Sorry, I just realized I may have worded that kinda funny. What I meant to ask was, I've never tested a car with anything lower than 9:1 compression, what readings should I expect on a healthy EA82T with 7:1 compression? I'm worried about having cracked a head, no matter what I end up doing it's going to be a pain in the arse. If I remember right the car has Gen 2 heads on it. Oh, and Skip is the one with the diagram.
  9. So, what's considered a "healthy" compression test reading on an EA82T? I've never tested a car with such low compression before, don't know what to look for. Suspecting head issues on my XT, clouds of white smoke+temp rising at idle+bubbling coolant=not good.
  10. Hey guys, I'm thinking of buying a wagon online from Manville, NJ. As I'm 7 hours from there I can't exactly run up to check it out. Is anyone in the area willing to take half an hour and go check the car out for me? Just give it the usual going-over and a quick test drive? There's no way I'll buy this car without some in-person report of its condition, any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Post here and I'll email you the details. Next time I'm in the area (I have family in Jersey) I can compensate you with beer, parts, whatever. Thanks in advance.
