  1. No f'ing way! AWESOME! I've been looking for a way to fix my rump roast end to keep the Pugs from rubbing!
  2. Well... my turbo XT has been sitting for 2 1/2 months now, and I STILL have not had the time to do the heads on it. The days are getting shorter now and my schedule is getting busier; looks like I'll have to pay someone to do this job for me. The local Subaru junkyard/specialist quoted me $150 to do the job. How's this price sound? I think it's a deal- but I've never really looked into pricing for this.
  3. Wedge a pair of angled needlenose pliers into one of the cracks. Turn, spread, and pull. Oh wait... you wanted to NOT break anything? Don't know how to do that...
  4. Just thought I'd pass the word along. Scrapdaddytatum, Skip, Conker and I will be going to the huge U-Pull yards in SW PA this Sunday. We'll probably be starting out at Bob Cossell's in West Alexander, it's located off I-70 right on the border between WV and PA. We *may* later move on to Sechrists U-Pull It on Dawson, PA, and hour farther into PA on I-70. Yards are open from 9-3 so we'll have to get an early start. Info about the yards, as well as a price list, can be found at http://www.sechristautoparts.com Hope to see you there!
  5. Watch out! You may melt your headlight wiring harness! I know this was a common problem in some other cars running overwattage 9004's. If you really want to run the high-watt bulbs, APC I think makes a kit that will beef up your wiring.
  6. Logic would dictate that the lighter fluid would flow toward the heavier. But for some reason, the diff oil ends up in the transmission when this happens. This most likely is a failure of the output shaft bearing and seal, the one that seals the shaft carrying power from the transmission to the diff. This bad bearing will eventually let the shaft start to wander- and once the shaft wanders far enough, it will LOCK the transmission and diff while driving. I agree, you got screwed. Any half decent mechanic should have replaced that seal during a transmission rebuild. Take the car back to them at once and give them the what-for. Running with differential oil in the transmission will damage the trans after a while, as the transmission fluid is a hydraulic fluid and must be pure in order for the trans to run properly.
  7. It's not that they're hard to find around here... give me 24 hours and I could find at least 3 $100 EA82's. The problem is that the bodies are so rusty on all of them here. I can find drivetrain parts out the wazzuu, it's *body* stuff that's the problem. And yes, I know it won't meet his needs, and that on the west coast things are different. I was just kinda joking around, I meant that someone could tell what coast you were from without even looking at your location just from that post.
  8. EVERY nonturbo 4 cylinder XT made from 87.5 to 91 has them. It's the base XT motor. Shouldn't be hard to find.
  9. EA82 MPFI with spider intake out of an 87.5-91 XT. I've seen one of these running in a Brat, and I know EA82's can be made to work in a Brat. I know the trans can be made to work, as bratsrus has mated an EA82 trans to an EA81 engine... why wouldn't it work the other way around? That engine has about 100hp stock, but it feels pretty peppy. It was pretty decent on low end torque; I could spin tire in first gear in my 2WD XT without even trying, and chirp 2nd from time to time. And I'm sure it can easily be made to hit 120hp. This engine felt like worlds of difference compared to my SPFI EA82.
  10. Can you tell my landlord that please? Ohio eh? Come hang out with us SWPA/WV/OH guys sometime, there's a few of us in the area already. A couple of us are probably going for a run to the mothers of all junkyards in SWPA next weekend, you're welcome to come along.
  11. Heres 50 pics from me! http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo80 Nice pics guys! Dave, I got you covered on the stuck Legacy pics. MAN do I miss my Dual Range!! When spring comes around, that's a must-do on the Loyale. Hopefully next time I'll have my no-rub Pug fix done and I'll be up there running on some serious meats.
  12. Qman, your west-coastness really showed in that post. Over here any Soob in that condition, running or not- that decision would be a no-brainer. Even if it took 2 parts cars to get it going again, it'd be an easy choice.
  13. Thought I could reach you faster on here than on email... Did you want me to bring up that good 3AT trans with the bad diff to the PB meet? If I don't get any answer from you by early tomorrow morning when I leave the house, I'll take that as a no...
  14. It's someone with a Japanese accent trying to say Loyale. Either that or the European version of a Quarter Pounder. It's basically your average run of the mill EA82.
  15. Jack it up, take the rear wheel off. Bingo. But beware... letting all the air out will make the car handle BAD. I drove one with flat air struts and it was bottoming out like crazy. I'm sure it made the handling a lot worse.
  16. Someone in town here has one... I keep trying to get to go see it but no luck... MAN do I want to check out that car!
  17. They exist, though they're very rare. I never saw a Sedan/Wagon with it, but I have seen an NA XT with FT4WD. I have a pic of it on my home computer.
  18. $50 for an engine? $20 all you can carry? Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite... I gotta make a trip up there!! Seriously, now I really want to spend a weekend there.
  19. Nope, no 40's. 22's are better, they don't get warm while you drink them. What I really need is a pair of new f'ing fenders... the hole in the left one and the poorly repainted area on the right one are really getting on my nerves. That's the worst rust on the car, BTW.
  20. In preparation for the Pine Barrens meet I did a little tinkering with the Loyale today... Put on the Pugs, added some off-road lighting, limo tinted the windows, and of course we can't forget the skull and crossbones license plate. See you in the sand!
  21. Come to the yard up here... about a dozen EA81's, a couple with under 100K miles, $160 if you pull.
  22. Any tips on removing the EA82 front bumper cover before I dig into it?
  23. I feel your pain. Those clowns wanted $80 for a blower motor resistor! I got a handful of them at the yard for $1.
  24. So... here we go... clean looking cup holders for the EA82!!! Unfortunately you have to have the aftermarket stereo plate to make this work. Since this works in EA82's with the plate, it'd probably work in EA81's as well. Know that half-side dummy plate that's under the main hole for the stereo? This cup holder uses the hole for it. You need to use the cup holder unit out of a 1991-94 Nissan Sentra. It basically consists of a mounting sleeve that holds a sliding cup holder assembly. If you can find a car at the yard with the vent panel off, this cup holder comes off with only 2 screws. It's located below the heater/AC controls. Before installing this in the car, you need to do a few things. The sliding mounting collar- it needs to come off and be flipped over, then slid back on. You want the sides with the mounting holes to be flush with the back of the stereo plate. You'll also need to trim some plastic off the corners of the mounting holes, so they will clear the screw posts on the stereo faceplate. The cup holder has a couple little wire brackets on top that flip down so you can put those little Japanese soda cans in it. There won't be enough room to flip them up for American drinks once the holder is mounted. Pop those suckers off and get rid of them! Once you have the cup holder screwed onto the back of the mounting plate, you'll have to modify the stereo brackets on the car. As you know they taper inward on the bottom, where the plastic cubby hole mounts. You need to either cut off the bottom of these brackets, or bend the bottom out of the way, as the cup holder is a good 3/4 inch wider than the cubby hole. Then just screw the stereo plate on, and that's it! Pics: It'll be a little hard to work the stereo controls with cups in the holder, but hey, it's worth it IMO. Clearance is OK with an automatic, the stick may come VERY close to the holder in a manual. You may have to put a couple washers on your screws and move the holder farther back into the dash.
  25. Both my 92 Loyale and my 87 XT have 15" spares. I also saw one in an 85 Brat once.
