  1. I have the exact same problem, only on the lower part of my back doors. Doesn't really bother me, but my passengers hate it.
  2. I know in my state, if you don't have the title and the car is registered to someone else, there is NO way you can get one. Got anyone you trust who lives in another state where obtaining a title is possible? "Sell" the car to them, then when the title comes, have them sign it over to you.
  3. Methinks the one on the right is the proper RX spring. I had a set of RX springs/struts and I don't remember the ends tapering like the one on the left. Also, the RX ones are supposed to be stiffer. Logic would dictate that they'd be the ones with thicker metal. Hey SKIP... those struts I sold you... what kind of springs do they appear to have on them?
  4. One thing that nobody mentioned... DUCT TAPE. Don't leave home without it. I also always have a maglite in the car.
  5. Hey Paul... I was just joking about the XT6 comment. What I meant was he needed so much stuff he might as well just buy another car. You really think I'd get rid of me and Jeremy's XT6? Not in a million years, haha.
  6. Hey Frank... how bout I just find you an XT6 with a crappy body and good drivetran and dump it at your doorstep? I think that would get you your parts. Me and Jeremy didn't realize just how far away these yards are from us. But... I have a buddy an hour from Philly who owes me a favor (sold him a car dirt cheap) and he says we can crash with him- so we're still in on this. See you saturday!
  7. Any turbo off an 85-90 sedan, coupe, wagon, or 4 cyl XT will work. Those are the only models that can be fitted without major customizing.
  8. I've heard from some people that all 4 cyl XT's have a 3.7 final drive. I've heard from other people that the nonturbos have 3.9, just like sedans and wagons. So, which is true- do they all have 3.7? And if they all have a 3.7 final drive- are the transmissions the same as a turbo? The reason I ask is because I have a bad CV joint on an 88 2WD XT with a manual, and I really need to know if it's a 23 spline or a 25 spline.
  9. So what kind of gas mileage have you guys been able to squeeze out of an EA82? I just managed 33MPG on the highway in an 88 XT4 2WD 5 speed with spider intake.
  10. Well... I suppose I *may* be able to make it. Seems how graduation is at 1 on the 7th. I really don't want to miss this run...
  11. Corky- What do Miles' comments about building project cars faster than a stock RX have to do with his problems with the law? I really don't see the connection...
  12. Whoa... now THIS is a classic thread. I got a couple stories of stupidity... After replacing an automatic trans, I wondered why the car wouldn't move when in gear and got pretty pissed, thinking about how I had possibly just installed a junk transmission. That is, until I realized that I hadn't put in any trans fluid. Had a rear strut tower rust out in my first wagon I ever owned, hit a bump and POW, the strut and a big chunk of the unibody busted into the backseat. Stopped the car, surveyed the damage, decided which junkyard to call in the morning, then drove the car the rest of the way home (1 mile). I can relate to Paul's oil cap story. At the first Pine Barrens meet I went to, I stopped halfway there and topped off my oil. And yes, I DID put the cap on- but did it lock...? Got up to the meet and went to show someone my custom intake, and lo and behold, no oil cap, and a big splatter of oil on the bottom of the hood. I made a makeshift cap out of duct tape and ran the trail. Later in the day... who else but Paul happened to have a spare oil cap that I used. Now I carry a spare around, just in case...
  13. If anyone can find that auction link... Since the buyer's name is on the auction, why not invite him/her to come visit the board?
  14. I really REALLY want to go to this. But... I'm kind of, *ahem* graduating from college on Dec. 7, so the 6th is a no go. I could make it on the 13th though.
  15. For both of the ones that I took out of the yard, I first looked for other reasons why the car would be in the junkyard. Yours has a seized motor; that's probably why it's off the road. Another thing to do is check the fluids. Translucent red trans fluid is great. Check the diff as well. Should look like heavy motor oil. If the diff is bone dry, stay away from that trans. If there's any indication of the two fluids mixing, forget about using that trans. Pull the pan and take a look. How does the filter look? One trans that I had go bad had a ripped filter. Not a good sign. Also check the magnet in the pan. If it has lots of metal shavings stuck to it, get another transmission. Pull the governor gear and check it according to these instructions: http://usmb.net/repair/?CurrentDirectory=FOLDER_3f29b58f50d9b8.15492800/&FileType=Article&File=ARTICLE_3f57fdb83de231.34713659.art That's all I know to check, I kind of had a "crash course" in automatic transmission service and there's lots I don't know. After doing all those things I managed to go 2 for 2 with pulling good transmissions from the junkyard, so I'd like to think I was doing *something* right.
  16. Yeah, I've heard some Aussies refer to "roo bars" before. Site for that truck says it costs $0.00. I'll take it for free!
  17. Just got in from picking up another Soob... me and Jeremy (Conker) just picked up an XT6! It'll be all Jeremy's in a couple weeks, but for now we're kinda sharing it. The car doesn't have any serious mechanical issues, mostly it's just dirty and needs a tune up. Here's details... 88 XT6, 5 speed with diff lock 125K on the clock Problems: Exterior is FILTHY Clutch cable needs adjustment Fuel filter is clogged RH headlight motor is dead, as is the window motor on the same side Lifters are chattering a bit Benefits: DAMN this thing is fast!! But, the car was only $600, and has no major rust. Before you west coasters say how crappy the car looks, remember that here in Appalachia, a hole-free Subaru is worth its weight in gold. Pics are posted at: http://usmb.net/gallery/albup18 LOTS of new stuff is yet to come for this car.
  18. 2WD Brats... 94 Brats... Interesting. Hmmmm... anyone ever try to import a car from Israel? I'd love a 94 Brat. Of course it can be made into 4WD.
  19. Oh right, can't forget the LSD. I was thinking open diff. DOH!
  20. Since the car is an RX you should be fine. The Full time 4WD system allows all 4 wheels to turn at different speeds. If you locked the center diff while having different size tires on it you may have had some binding. As long as the car is still driving fine I wouldn't worry about any problems. Just go ahead and made sure all the tires match from now on.
  21. Fastest I ever got a Soob was 115. My turbo XT hit it as well as my 2WD nonturbo XT. Both would have hit the redline at about 120.
  22. The transfer case? You must mean the front differential. Subarus have no real transfer case per se. The section that the rear drive shaft slips into is actually part of the transmission and has no dipstick to check. Are you saying that the reservoir that you check just behind the engine is getting trans fluid in it? The one with the short thick metal dipstick? That's the front differential. If you're getting trans fluid in there, this transmission will need a rebuild. Stop leak will allow the trans to stay sealed longer, but it will eventually start leaking again. Eventually this leak will destroy the input shaft bearing and the transmission will SEIZE. When it starts leaking again, it's time to consider changing the tranny.
  23. Sure, I know where one is. Jeremy's got one. It's got a blue interior and the bottom half of the shelf is split at the seam pretty bad, probably could be sewn back together. I'll see if he wants a back seat instead. Also, I forgot one weight reduction suggestion- hire a horse jockey to do your 1/4 mile drags for you. My friend with the Sentra did things to extremes... Removed all the interior panels, carpet, and insulation. He took out everything but the driver's seat. Pretty much had no dash. Cut the cross bracing out from under the hood and trunklid. Cut out the floor and spare tire well of the trunk and welded in a piece of sheet metal. Removed A/C and PS. I don't even remember what else, but there's more...
  24. Special lightweight 14 inch alloys. Very expensive, but as low as 14 pounds per rim. Pull off the interior paneling and carpet and get rid of all the insulation underneath, then reinstall the panels and carpet. Remove the backseat. Use the boards from an XT DL instead, they only weigh about 2 pounds. Start getting rid of unneccessary stuff. Do you really need 4 speakers? Do you really need a trip computer? What about the equalizer? Consider getting seats from an XT DL. They have no height adjustment and are pretty low-frills. They weigh about half as much. Really it just matters how much you want to strip out of the car. I have a friend with a Sentra who gained .3 seconds on his 1/4 mile time through exensive weight reduction. Of course that car was like driving a soda can, but you get the idea...
