  1. No. The only wheels bigger than 13" that will fit are those from a Peugeot 504 or 505.
  2. It's Berkely. Also, the car definitely is an 86. I can see from the pics that it has a center brakelight. The mirrors are also mounted in front of the window glass instead of below it. Did it have the checkered flag interior? Kind of hard to tell from the pics. The checkers were unique to the 85 RX.
  3. Heh... wasn't intentional anyway. Bought the car like that and had to drive it home, then my wagon broke down and I drove it around for a week. Then after fixing it it came apart again 100 miles from home. Fixed it again, and 3 days later it came apart again. Got a new Y-pipe, problem solved. I wouldn't intentionally put a car through that.
  4. Cooling line is a good bet. That would allow all the spewage. Since auto trannies are hydraulic... if there's no fluid, there's no pressure, and the car won't go. Cooling lines are on the driver's side of the tranny, behind the bellhousing. One is on a tube that comes up near the starter and the other comes directly out of the side of the trans.
  5. The adjustable struts were discontinued after the 86 model. Come to think of it.... they run reformulated gas in the summer here. I wonder if that has anything to do with the carb problems? The carb had been freshly rebuilt when I bought the car, and worked fine for the first month I had it- then the problems started and never stopped. Though, it still got horrible gas mileage when I first got it.
  6. I tend to stay away from the carbs as well. I read lots of horror stories on this site, but I figured, how bad could it be? Well... I ended up getting an 87 wagon with a carb, and I was literally working on the carb every 3 weeks. The car NEVER ran right. It was always having at least one of the following: idle problems, starting problems, running rich, running lean, and it ALWAYS got horrible gas mileage. Only FI for me after that. Every FI Subaru I've had has been perfect- hardly have to even touch them. Much more reliable and user-friendly, they are. As for years- FI became standard equipment on the 4WD's for the 88 model year. In 1990 the name changed to Loyale and was made that way until 1994. The Loyale is the same as the GL, only without as many options. It also was not available with the Dual Range trans. If you feel like doing a little tinkering it's pretty easy to put one in. Just because they're newer doesn't mean they're expensive; I picked up a 92 Loyale wagon with a great body for $300.
  7. Had a similar problem on an XT6. After I unplugged and reconnected the main plug going to the door panel it started working again. So, I guess it could be dirty/corroded pins in the connectors.
  8. Sure, come out and get it sometime. I'll be sure to bring a spare alternator. Glad to see you guys got back OK.
  9. In the fourth post on this thread the filename of the pic refers to the engine as an EJ18T. Though I can't begin to guess about Skip's mental status, I can say I've never seen him smoke the waky tabacy.
  10. I'm having a grinding/scraping noise coming from the rear of my Loyale when I hit the brakes. Naturally I thought it was worn out shoes... but when I pulled the drums off, the shoes had more than 50% of their lining left. The surface inside the drums looked good as well. I cleaned all the dust and debris out of the brakes and put them back together, and it still makes the noise. Don't think it's bearings, as it never makes moise any other time, and doesn't really sound like a bearing noise. It sounds like more of a scraping than anything. I'm thinking of just saying to hell with this and swapping to discs. Anyone have any ideas?
  11. Haven't noticed that (or looked, for that matter) on any of my Subarus, but both my old Nissan and my friend's Escort did that while running in neutral with the wheels off the ground. Confused me at first, but I assumed it's normal as both cars are still running great several years after the fact.
  12. My 92 Loyale started having some problems starting in the past couple days. When the engine is cold, it cranks right over and starts. When the engine is warm, though, it cranks for about 10 seconds and then slowly sputters to life. Once started it runs fine. I've never had this problem, only have had it the other way around. Any ideas?
  13. I also like the front bar and steering wheel on your green station wagon. Where do you find these things? I've never seen those parts in the USA before. The next time I go to Germany you will have to show me where to find all the Subaru parts!
  14. An 85 Touring Wagon!!!!! Amazing!!!! I was hoping to get a set of the European side marker lights. I also wanted to get a set of the rear door trim that says "Leone" on it. Unfortunately when I was in Germany I never found a place to get them. Anyone notice how the XT has the late model front bumper and early model rear?
  15. Dennis... why not just use the belt for an XT with no A/C? If the layout is different, then let me know and I can get you the alt/PS bracket from a non/AC model- they've got 2 in the yard here.
  16. I'll be there, and I'll try and get Jeremy and James to go. Jeremy's girl will probably go too as she'll probably have a Sube by then. Not sure if I could do the off road stuff... my wagon might be down for the count then. Turbo XT will be running strong tho. Funny how now that I'm about to fix my turbo XT, now the wagon is taking a dook.
  17. 87 XT Turbo: Ka-boom at 98k. Wish I had the same kinda luck as you guys. Highest mileage Soob I ever had was 155k, ran great, but the body fell apart. My Loyale is about to turn over 150k and is starting to get a case of the blue smokies. Neighbor gave me an 86 2WD sedan last year with 80k and bad rings. I love all my Soobs and they are the most reliable cars I've ever had- I just wonder why I always get the ones that die young.
  18. My Loyale does exactly the same thing. Tires all match, everything is straight and in good order. I think it may have to do with dry patches in the road. I've noticed on the really slick stuff- sand or a road totally covered in snow- that the jerking goes away. Mine really isn't a hard pull to either side, just random jerks coming through the steering wheel to one side or the other.
  19. I had one that was giving me trouble like that. I ended up having to drill it out. The thing finally came out of the hole in 4 pieces. Took me all of an hour to get just the pin out. Grrrr... why do some people feel that they have to beat a part senseless until it fits... why not just do it the RIGHT way??
  20. Check the fluid level first, if the fluid is low enough it will make the trans seem like it's always in neutral.
  21. Your turbo was an auto wasn't it? Turbo 3AT's take the same axles as all other nonturbo cars.
