  1. 5speed manual, whole differential, or Viscous Coupler, not sure exactly what it needs. Goes "Clickity Clack!" down the road when accelerating. Email me @ webmiser007@gmail.com. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2590778664518328/
  2. $3000 bucks at Subadude in South Loveland got me a used rebuild with new seals, gaskets, timing belt, radiator, pullies, hoses, and miscellaneous doodads. Anniversary present thanks to Uncle Sam, and taking one for the team, both of us amongst a cesspool of germs working for Amazon and Senior Living. Want to go junkyard diving now to find some treasures, clips, and light fixtures. Godspeed, RIP Diamond, Xenongod/Jeff
  3. $100 charge from Jeff at Us, but another shop taess the head to Denver, bother about the same price
  4. Yes, bubbles in overflow tank and radiator, and the heater works sporadically. New Subaru radiator cap, drilled holes in thermostat, and burped cooling system properly. Both cooling fans work fine. After driving only a couple of miles, the temperature skyrockets pass the red zone, and coolant steams out of the overflow. We pull over immediately, shut engine off, and within a couple minutes the temperature is in the normal range. May try a new thermostat for shits and giggles, couldn't hurt to be sure. Hope and pray no permanent damage or warping has occurred. Thanks, Jeff
  5. Not sure if anyone remembers me, I owned a '81 GL 4WD Wagon, and helped coordinate a Meet and Greet a couple decades ago at Red Rocks, Colorado. The fate of my wagon is truly depressing, my ex father in law had it scrapped for metal because he lost the keys to it, and neglected to tell me. So here is my issue. My wife bought a 2003 Baja EJ25 a couple months ago from a guy who said his uncle just replaced most major parts, timing belt, water pump, and head gaskets. It ran great for a month until we got the oil changed and new air filter, and then started to overheat badly. Symptoms point to head gasket leak which can be quite an expensive fix. Requires pulling engine, machining head surfaces, and replacing gasket with turbo version. We live in Loveland, Colorado and are tight on money and no place to work on it. I am putting out a plea for help, or recommendation from you all. If we can't get it fixed, it's going to end up in a backyard and $3200 down the drain. It is in great shape except for the engine issue, so I need to resolve this somehow, some way. Thanks everyone for your time and consideration. Jeff/Xenongod/RIP:Diamond in the Roo
  6. Last minute request..a call goes out to anyone who will be there. I am looking for the super duper extra special tool that is used to adjust the valves on my '81 1800cc Wagon. If you have one and don't need it...or I could borrow it and mail it back to you..either way...money talks...and I need one...or off to S-Wings Diamond will go. Just enough tick to be noticeable...and it has been 24K miles on the new engine w/ no adjustments as of yet. Another call goes out to anyone who has a rememdy for my overly positive camber..which is causing my tires to prematurely wear out on the outside edges. The alignment is perfect...except for the camber...and if anyone has any ideas or hardware that could help...please bring them along also. Furthermore...sounds cool everyone...I still think I will be the vintage of the group then...211200 miles and will probably go for another quarter million miles. Although I can still hear the gremlins chattering away and planning something dasterdly...little buggers did a number on my stereo this morning...just to keep me on my toes. See ya later...Xenongod
  7. Not in my case though...because I asked about buying the Brat as a whole...and they said it had no title..therefore the only way it could leave the yard was in pieces only. The title work alone would have cost at least 500 bucks or more they also told me and too much of a hassle. The windows and jumpseats already had dibs written on them..and this was a couple of months ago...and I did not see a '76 Wagon at all when I was there...and I walked the whole imports section looking for older wagons. Even the yard next door (Recyclers) to CAP was very bleak in the Subaru pickings...in fact there was only a couple when I was there and nothing enticing. My two cents for the topic hijackers. Xenongod
  8. Just go up! Easy as that at Red Rocks to navigate to the upper parking lots...although the very top is usually full...there is a lot just down from that one and that is where we met up last time. If you go through a short tunnel then you are almost there. I agree that there should be show before grubbing and gabbing...since it is a Subaru meet...eh? After that I am all up for any kind of food...and anywhere within reasonable distance. Got my alloy wheels and street tires on today...a little detail work here and there...feels nice to be driving Diamond again. Xenongod
  9. Holy schnikeys...haven't checked in this forum in a while...thought I wouldn't make it. Lo' and behold..with the aid of fellow USMB input and Shawn coming by for a gander at my wagon....Diamond in the Roo is once again on the road. If I remember correctly...at the OFFICIAL FIRST COLORADO USMB MEETING at Red Rocks...I won the most vintage/classic there...am I mistaken?...I think not. My wagon and I will be there...and I challenge anyone to bring one more vintage. I saw a '78ish Brat the other day at the local junkyard...nice condition w/ rear seats!!...jackman wheels..little rust...and with an Abandoned Vehicle sticker...so no title to work with...sigh. I have seen a couple wagons running around that are close to my year...and a blue older Brat...but that's it. OH...DANG...downtown someone drives a '75 Wagon around...no kidding...near mint!...that would be nice to see up close...eh? Babble..babble.....babble...yah...well...another idea to throw at everyone...not far from Red Rocks is a nice drive over Guanella Pass...Shawn went over it the other day and will reaffirm...that would be a nice area to light off road and get the true feeling of the Rocky Mountains and the Roos that dominate them...hehe. If you want to visit my website...here's the link: http://operationmindcrime.us/xenon/index.html I haven't updated it in a while...but there is more to it than meets the eye...yesssssireeeeeee! Xenongod
  10. No thanks Shawn..went out and bought a brand new alternator ('83 GL Wagon 1.8L) from Pep Boys and got it installed and everything done as stated in the USRM...and it works wonderfully. Gonna go back thru the wiring and touch it up some so I don't have any fires...LOL!! Anyhoo...thanks everyone...you rooz guyz are great!! Xenongod
  11. EUREKA!! This modification works like a charm!! My wagon is running around Denver streets again!! Get rid of the external problematic regulator and do this if you have insufficient charging or gremlins...it is 100% proven to work. Thanks everyone!! Xenongod
  12. The directions are in the link I posted...Hondasucks mentions by just taking the wiring harness to the external voltage regulator and snipping the connector to it out...you can wire together the needed wires in a new way to work with the internally regulated alternator. Then modify the fuel pump to work only when the engine is running...bingo! Xenongod
  13. I think the horse is dead...Billy Bob...stop kicking it...LOL!! This topic was and is still a hot topic because of my '81 Wagon and it's gremlins. I have inquired and this is the answer: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/article.php?a=14 My knowledge is vast...my memory is slow...so the answer to which alternators are swappable without modification to the bracket is EA81 and EA82 alternators are swappable...except for the XT6 unit. I am going to put my fuel pump on a relayed switch from the ignition switch and take the external votalge regulator out of the loop when the EA82 internally regulated alternator is in...simple as that...but...I'm lazy...so it is not proven by my own hands and eyes. Hope this helps! Xenongod
  14. Awesome article...only one thing missing...where to get an internally regulated alternator that would fit without having to customize the bracket. The one thing that I will need very soon to get Diamond up and running again...Thanks!! Xenongod
  15. We had a great visit...and we made some progress on Diamond...the wagon will soon be back on the road. Denver isn't so bad as long as you remember one thing..."Patience is a virture"...crowded with lots of traffic...plus legally concealed weapons...keep your cool...HAHA!! With cop shootings and meth labs burning down put aside...Denver is rather calm...what a lie..eh? Here is a job tip...do what I do...deliver newspapers...my route is exceptional and pays better than most...but you can always find one that will pay you descent and it only takes a couple hours of your late nights/early mornings to do it. All you need is a license...proof of insurance...and the will to wake up every day and get the job done on time...just sign on the dotted line. By the way...you mentioned you have an alternator with an internal VR...would that fit the mounting bracket in my wagon without any major customization? Anyhow...just wanted to throw my three cents in. Take care...Xenongod
  16. That's cool...I found another route to the USRM and some articles. What the articles speak of is using a XT6 alternator...which would require some metal working and changing pulleys...etc....plus they are expensive...and no junkyards have them around here anymore. All I want to do is find the same size alternator with an internal regulator and get it wired up correctly and safely...possibly more amps. I need the coil and alternator energized...the fuel pump switched with the ignition..and a guage would be nice. I have been out of the mechanic loop for some time and it is finally coming back to me...Shawn gave it a big boost by coming by and giving me a run down on some things. Anyhoo...that's where I am at right now. Xenongod
  17. UUMMMM!!...I looked in the USRM..."No articles found" under electrical. Thanks though...Xenongod
  18. Oh..and my GIF animation that I made would take up a lot of memory to run as a wallpaper. I even made one with laser beams shooting out of the third headlight engulfing everything and causing a black hole to open up and swallow the wagon...LOL!! Xenongod
  19. Ugh...eeek....oooh...wow...just now noticed the many replies..thanks! Well...to answer one question..no votalge change at any RPM...none. The voltmeter is only detecting what is stored in the battery...nothing more..nothing less...like the alternator doesn't even exist in the loop. I have a mystery wire on the coil...black w/ red stripe that is on the postive side of coil now which is unaccounted for...according to another post I made. Sounds like to me that the alternator is not getting engergized..eh? Would a wire straight to the battery from the "E" do the trick then...or should I keep a fire extinguisher handy? We took the fuel pump out of the loop...so could that have been the loop to energize the alternator? Back to the original idea: Eliminating the external VR and making it an internal VR machine. Where do I pick up an internally regulated alternator that fits...and how to incorporate it in the system? Is this going to be a butcher job? I'm still confused on what exactly the VR regulates and why. Is it because the voltage alternates and has peaks and valleys in the output? Then the regulator just keeps the voltage at a median level? That's what I have come to believe...learning more by the minute. I do have a wiring diagram..but it does not show every wire that exists on my wagon..so it kind of makes the diagram useless sometimes. Getting closer by the post to pretty much making a rig job just to bypass all the troublesome areas...nice to hear Diamond running though...purring purrrfection! Thanks...Xenongod
  20. Okay now...I got the one w/ the resistor placed correctly now...and no progress...no charge. I still have one wire...black w/ red stripe that is also going to the positive side of coil which is unaccounted for...any clue? If this all sounds like it is correctly done...then I guess it might be time to try to find a new VR and alternator. Thanks!! Xenongod
  21. Ohno..that's cool...that's the way I thought...just double checking w/ fellow Subaru fans...no need for a schematic. Although...I would like to know which wires go where on a coil...I have another post about that with no replies. Thanks for the reassurance...peace...Xenongod
  22. Correct me if I'm wrong..but the fusible links on a '81 GL Wagon...the two solid copper wires near the battery...they are both +pos...correct? Not one being +pos and one being -neg...right? Another question..hopefully an answer will arise. Thanks!! Xenongod
  23. I have 7 wires total that go to the coil...one is obvious where it goes...the six small ones are the ones in question. On a 1981 GL Wagon...which go to +pos and which go to -neg? Maybe I have these wrong and that's why I am not getting a charge from the alternator. Making separate posts for different solutions to my problem because no one is answering my previous posts. Narrow this down some how...eh? Let me know...thanks! Xenongod
  24. Peanut butter!! No kidding...but I am not responsible if elephants do damage trying to lick it off. LOL!! Try it out...I've done it and it worked rather well...without using solvents or chemical...and if you got the munchies...slap some on bread. Xenongod
  25. Hello everyone...the reason why Shawn posted is because he cares for Diamond. In fact...he and Joy came by today to chat to some Denverites and have a gander at my Subaru which has some strange issues. Number one...it has become obsolete to Subaru and they no longer produce genuine parts for it. So...I now rely on aftermarket non-Subaru parts which sometimes either cause more damage...catch fire...or just don't work at all. The gremlins have full control now in my wagon...it even killed the alternator supposedly. I have posted my story a couple times and the answer lies basically in eliminating the voltage regulator from the fuel pump controler and going straight to the battery/switched it will run finally...and ask Shawn...it sounds super-tight. With it running now...I am not getting any charge from the alternator...just running off what the battery has stored. I tried another rebuilt alternator which stated on it that it was for an external voltage regulator...but it did not work whatsoever. Shawn and I tried another VR I had...same thing...still no charge. Either I need some genuine Subaru parts (VR and alternator)...or I need to some customizing to make it into an internally regulated alternator. The local Subaru dealer can't get me the parts needed..so now I am asking fellow Subaru fans to help me find them...or...let me know what I need to do to get this all to work by customizing. Another question: How can it be that when bench tested...the alternator now in the car was putting out 13+ Volts...and now is just a part of the circuit with no charging? and another: How easy is it to fry an alternator and VR? Would a short cause these to fail so easily? The fuel pump works..even had a spare that worked too..the car runs...but now no charge. We powered the fuel pump by an existing switch that was being used to run my fogs..but now is my fuel switch and is working fine. All of the idiot lights are coming on and the guage also shows no charging...just shows what the VOM shows...a little below 12V in the battery now. Truly flabbergasting...Shawn and I called it a day and went inside to cool off and still both had blank shell shocked faces because the gremlins got the best of us. Kudos to you Shawn...you are awesome and soon to become a neighbor and great asset to the Subaru community here in Denver, Colorado. Hope your trip back is safe and smooth. So...after being out of the loop for some time...Diamond and I have an irresistable urge to be back on the road again with fellow Subaru drivers. Thank you ahead of time for your help. Xenongod
