  1. My 98 had the hydraulics go out at about 105,000. Check to see if you have full travel. If they are bad it is more likely that the clutch would not disengauge rather than slip. The clutch is the weak spot on the manual Subaru's If you start out in second and floor it it will slip even when new My drive train guy did not have any HD clutch he would recommend. So he used one from the OEM manufacturer.
  2. How about a Legacy GT wagon like my 98? The new Outback is a real piggy. It is at least 2 feet taller than my current car and a lot heavier. It is a great SUV but not so good as a car. And no manual transmission. If they build it I would buy it.
  3. The latest set of RE 92 s absolutely inhale deeply. The first few sets were great. Now when cold weather appears they slip and slide all over the place. It was never like that before. I know for sure since I am the original owner.
  4. So are there a lot of blinded Japanese folks? Please explain.
  5. After having finally gotten used to having ABS I would not like to drive without it. A case in point. When the tone ring on my Legacy was broken the ABS shut itself off in about a minute or so after starting the car. The practical difference? The wheels would lock up almost always. The real down side? If one wheel caught traction on a dry spot and the other three wheels were still on glare ice, the car could get sideways. Just drive more slowly and take your time. The ABS is just there to help you. Also for the record there is very little additional distance in stopping on ice with ABS engaged.
  6. The answer is???? Battery. The starter etc was just fine. I thought it was odd since all of the electrics worked fine. I even tried to jump the battery and nothing happened. I replaced the battery and all is fine.
  7. A bad knock sensor will cause the car to be sluggish and it will get a bit poorer mileage as the spark timing is pulled back. If you never stomp on the gas you would never notice.
  8. My 98 GT starter sometimes makes no noise when U turn the key. Not even a click. When the starter does turn it is just fine. A search revealed that it may be the starter contacts. Do the experts here concur? I need to know because it VERY cold outside where I will have to do the work. Why don't these things happen in the summer?
  9. Alloy rims can be repaired also. Look for a place like Wheels America. But it is often cheaper to find a replacement.
  10. Yep the belts are feel. Call customer service and they will set up an appointment!. Mine were replaced last year or the year before!
  11. As was posted pull out the glove box and blower motor. Mine had a bad spot on the armature. Check for power at the motor. If the power is fine then the relay is good but the motor is bad. Good luck.
  12. The factory has always been great to me. They have always been helpful and went the extra mile..
  13. Well thanks for the help. I got the hoses reconnected but I have one extra hose. There is no air leak and it runs great.
  14. Ordinarily that is what I would do like when I remove an engine.. However I disconnected a few other hoses to get the that coolant hose and got in too deep. Does anyone else have a 1998 EJ 25 that can take a look? The questions are where do the hoses go from the air box and where do the hoses go from the T that connects to the block. Thanks!
  15. Here is one other pic that somehow did not up load. Hope this helps. Thanks
