  1. Just have the cylinders bored with plus sized pistons.
  2. If its in really good shape, i'd say its worth a couple grand.
  3. That green brat is awesome!
  4. Just got the last of the parts from PA... 1300 Transmission and a driver side window. I've got everything I need to complete the car now!!! PS, I already checked, and the 1300 FF-1 case IS identical in terms of bearing fitment as the '83 FWD 4-speed I already have... Tall gearing FTW!!!
  5. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=80021 Thats mine, you can read about the whole progress and whats involved if you wish. The jist of it is that its harder to find parts for this car than any other Subaru ever sold here... I've had the car for a couple years now, and just recently someone found one in a junkyard in PA that I managed to get some parts from (enough to have everything I need for mine). HOWEVER, if you have any bodywork that needs doing, it might end up being that you need to go custom. Restoring it back to its original condition is almost impossible (especially for the interior). The other problem areas are the unique front suspension/subframe layout that limits engine options, and the INBOARD front drum brakes which are impossible to find replacement shoes for. If anything major is missing in that area, it could be hard to find replacements. If you had a whole car like I did to start with, it would be easier, but its not impossible and the majority of my costs so far have gone towards bodywork (rust repair and such).
  6. Grind off paint in said area, mix and apply body filler, sand.... and sand more.
  7. Well, I spent ALL day today trying to do body work on the car... Just started with the doors, trunk and front fenders. I totally suck at body filler/bondo :-\ Every spot I tried to fix now looks worse... I just don't have the patience for all this sanding. And I have no clue how to do it properly, despite all the tips i've gotten about how to do i. I'd much rather pay someone to do this, but nobody is willing to do it for an amount I can afford right now.
  8. Sometimes it doesn't take that much effort to make 40 year old parts look new...
  9. Using the 1600 block i'd use 1600 headgaskets. Its better to have a gasket that matches the diameter of the cylinder (otherwise you have headgasket in the combustion chamber)
  10. I'm starting to think that using a heavily modified 1400 wet-sleeve short block might be easier in terms of shaving... Well i'm going to not worry so much about the engine for awhile, now that I actually have everything I actually need. Now i'll move on back to doing the bondo... :-\
  11. Sounds like that area was worse than the '78 wagon I had. I managed to just patch that up with JB weld and sheet steel, and paint over it and it was OK, but yours sounds rusted through... I kind of figured that when I saw it and poked around that car.
  12. Oh, I definitely want to upgrade the studs. HOWEVER, FYI, stock ones are still available.
  13. Hmm, that turbo piston idea might be worth checking out... I wouldn't say it "fits worse" it probably fits the same as yours. The bolt holes are visible through the holes on the manifold, but are about half way covered up or so. At first I thought I could have the bolt locations re-drilled, then I discovered the intake and coolant ports were off too So ya, i'm thinking block shaving with perhaps a little head shaving. But I need to talk to an engine shop about this too.
  14. Pfft... who knows :-\ Its not as close at it looks. I pressed everything together quite well, but its obvious when comparing the manifolds that it won't fit.
  15. You are going to have this car finished before I even get mine painted :-\
  16. Because I spent A LOT of money on this manifold already?
  17. Too short as in from one side to the other... Its like 1/4" shorter between the intake ports if I measure it compared to the other manifold I have I'm thinking, shave the block 1/8" on each side and run custom pistons? LOL!
  18. Alright, time for a nice new shiny update... Couple weeks ago, I got a message about this post over on the XT forum: http://subaruxt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10857&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&sid=eb251d5a2da1494a8c55084f4eaa1e7d Turns out, a 1971/72 FF-1 showed up in a junkyard in PA! (albiet apparently it rear-ended something) Luckily, MPtyza volunteered (along with a few dineros) to remove a few parts from that car for me!!! That might not look like much, but that was the first round of parts he's sending me. ALL of those parts are things that were either broken or missing from my car! He also managed to pull the cylinder heads off of the EA62 (1300) motor, which are as far as I know, practically the same as the EA63 4-port heads (the EA63 supposedly is just a bored out EA62). Here is a pic of the head next to the EA63 single-port heads I have, note how the valves are the same size: So today, I got the heads together with the shortblock and mocked it all up: Also note that the bell housing has been "modified" by Rennaisanceman over on USMB in order to better fit the EA71 case! (Extra material was added to make sure it will seal properly, which was something I was concerned about). Now indeed there is a coolant passage issue: HOWEVER, I also discovered that the Weber manifold is too short... Which is going to be a HUGE problem The good news is that the driver side window and transmission case from the other car are on the way as well, so I should have everything I need in order to complete this car shortly!
  19. Nevermind, got it to work! Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/Kostamojen
  20. Alright, made a Facebook page too... But i'm not sure what the "home page" is so I can link it?
