  1. so i just picked up an 86 hatchback, 4 speed hi/lo!!!! 198000 miles on it and the under body seam doesnt have a single dent or rust spot. im pretty stoked. it has an overheated hydraulic lifter ea81 in it. i havent even tried to turn it yet, but it was killed from overheating as told to me by the previous owner. luckily i have a spare ea81 hanging in the shop. so it will be on the road very soon. ill try to get pics soon of how clean this thing is!! cant wait to lift it hahaha. i guess thats about it i was just braggin a little bit. any suggestions or green eyes
  2. this has been so helpful, should be nominated for the repair manual
  3. its alive!!! i got it running. thanks for all the help. now what wires am i looking for to do my tach signal and choke and everything?
  4. yeah i pretty much know all that and did all that, i just wanted to know if anyone could help me as to what wires im looking for. or relays or what im looking for or where. i'll put in my own relay if i have to i just need to know where to find the wiring under the dash, or in the engine compartment or wherever, i guess. so i guess i just didnt ask the right question :-\ and maybe theres been even more swapping done before me cause it did have mpfi for sure.
  5. the 87 is getting the parts. the harness was torn apart from the mpfi and the engine was blown from overheating, so i swapped in the harness, fuel pump, engine and all related parts from the 85 to the 87. so im keeping the carb setup from the 85
  6. so i got 1987 gl wagon 5sd d/r mpfi for free. the engine was blown and many other redneck fixes have been done to say the least.. i soucrced a 1985 gl wagon fwd auto carbed for the swap and parts to bring the 87 to daily driver status. so i swapped the engines, engine wiring harness, eveything i need to, but now i cant get my fuel pump working. i swapped in the new pump but cant figure out what i gotta do to get it to work. i can do the good old fashioned cut and splice but id like this to work all day everyday so i have a driver. i even jumpered the park and nuetral safety switch so it turns over and has spark just no fuel pump. please help!! it must have something to do with swapping the harnesses i think
  7. so i have two engines, an ej18 from a 1994 impreza that needs rings done at least. the other engine is an ej22 source unknown but i can find out. this engine has been overheated and blown the head gaskets at least. so i have to rebuild one of them or make a solid engine out of the two. i havent pulled either engine apart yet to check the actual condition of the internals, but assuming both need some extent of rebuild what would the best head/block/everything else combo i could go with to make the most power? and where the hell do i get parts like rings, bearings, engine internals, etc?
  8. sorry i posted this in wanted section too but it will get looked at more here and im only in town for the weekend and wanted to see if anyone wanted to donate a couple old ea81 and or ea82 axles to my long travel, slip axle project. they dont have to be usable i just need them to mock up and figure out how to do it and i need a physical representation to figure it out cause im done drawing!! thanks for the help alex
  9. wow, i really like all the responses and everyone getting their creative juices flowin. i was looking at it more from a jumping standpoint than rockcrawling i started looking at the suspension and was thinkin the place to start would be how to extend or fab a new lower suspension arm. then i read in another post about maybe using square tube to help extend the axles. but the top link being a strut makes it a little more tricky. maybe i could move the mount out a little kinda like when have to move them in when you put lift blocks on. instead you could move the strut mounts out and extend the lower arm the axle and the steering linkage. just a quick thought. but i gotta get an engine into the car before i start doing suspension so i am going to start working on this if anyone wants to help. i need an engine too if anyone k can help with that thanks for the input and lets keep it going. as soon as i start pics and a full write up will be posted for sure
  10. just wondering if anyone had tried this, like extending out the suspension on top of a lift. i know everyone will say dumb idea but i think it would be bad rump roast to see. i know it would take alot of fab work but if no one else has done it i might just have the time and the craziness to try so lets look at this from a stand point of "lets try it" oh and i have an 87 gl wagon hi-lo, that i need an ea82 for due to spun bearing, but i think this would be a good platform to start with
  11. so the first mod was getting a running 84 gl wagon with hi-lo four speed for free fifty:) then over this last weekend i did some plasma torch body work to the back and fabbed a single tube bumber back there too. then i cranked the torsion bar and built 2 inch blocks for the as well as cranking up the height adjustments screws then i topped it of by changing over the tires to the brand new snow tires that came with the car next up is toyota or chevy rims and better tires i'd post pics but cant figure it out, if you can help with that please do
  12. just like the title says. i have a 300 acre farm in forks, wa and would like to make some tracks and runs and maybe even set up events. what do you guys think?
