Are Blizzaks really that good?
PeterD replied to freedster's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have a set of MZ-02s on my vw scirocco, there nothing to brag about compared to some of the newer studless tires they make. -

PeterD replied to BlindSight's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
TheSubaruJunkie your RX looks sweet. any way i could careless wether or not someone loweres there car. heck i think some of these subarus that are jacked way way up are rediculouse...but cool in there own way. done right i think there fine:) -
well I may be back in the subaru scene once more. while i have been in Alaska for the past month my dad picked up another subaru, we are going to clean it up a bit, he asked me if i want it. its an 82 gl wagon with 4wd low and a ea81 with a single barel carb. he said it drive well. though it doesn have a little rust hole under the rear right door...im thinking it can be cut out and fixed...if not just leave it. im excited..i hope i can get it from him. its not as nice looking as my old 84 i sold but the chasses is in better order. less accidents.

hey guys, not many of you know me though i have been around for a little while, not to often lately. I was pleast to be welcomed to a board full of nice people. even though some of my questions went un answered i figured most of them out. Im selling the wagon as its now seved its time with me. I loved it, it was the very first car i drove as a young teen and it has been loved and in the family for almost 6 years now. My dad said i could have the car if i fixed it ( my little sister really didn't treat the clutch well ), so i got a new clutch rebuilt the carb and replaced numerous axls....i hate reman axles. :-\ any way I drove her to school to use during the winter and it was a fun experience. I had never realy had a chance to drive it in snow before. But now that the snow is gone and my vw scirocco is back and running i cant justify keeping it around. Along with the vw i have just bought a 1991 Eagle Talon TSI for a grand. not sure if it was worth it but dang its a fun car. Im in the mood for a change of automobiles. i have been driving underpowered sub 100hp cars all my life and i just need a car with more balls. My old subaru has really been helpful in learning more about mechanics, The older ea81 subarus have always been a favorite ever scince i was a little boy and now to think i acualy got to own one makes me feel as if i have completed something. Long live the old subarus....in my opinion they are one of the most underrated cars that has ever been made. I may be back for another dose of wagon love but for now. peace, have fun, keep them alive. link to my new ride. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v61/PeterDoellefeld/My%20Ride/talon2.jpg

hondas are great cars.....but my friend does use Fram on his honda even aonther friend of mine uses Fram filters on his Lexus... I try and tell them but nnnooooo
-
good filter but has restrictive filter element. could be a good thing or bad i don't know...I use WIX becuase its a better built filter and is about 3 bucks cheaper than the PureOne at my local auto parts store. best filter wold have to be Mobil 1....from numerous things i have seen and heard about...but they are not cheap. Whatever you do stay away from FRAM or any company that has filters built by FRAM...if you ever get a chance to look at the internals you will know what im talking abou.

FIXED went to napa and they sell just the plugs so i got a right angle plug as they should all come this way with the subaru block heater. ^^ see it works
-
thats not a bad idea but that would probably mean buying another assmebly and wireing...not to many places want to sell just the plug and wires....but i will check and see if i even can...might as well try.

Napa Gold or WIX oil filters are all i will use. and i just run 10w-30 dino oil in the winter. im not sure what full synthetic will do to a previously uncared for motor. http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/

here is a picture of the fanblade hitting the wiring of the block heater.....im almost tempted to go and buy a slim aftermarket electric fan.

I did search...but if its not the correct wording you might just end up empty handed. Bars leak has saved our van on vacation and went for another 20k miles still running before we traded it in with 215k miles on it....we suspected a band head gasket....if its bad bummer...ill put my spare block in. if anything happens wich i highly doupt. that post really didn't help me but thanks anyway. I installed the fan after installing the block heater and the wireing. The end of the wires coming out of the block heater will hit the fan blades there was no problem with re installing the fan...its a clearence issue....i will take a pictrure in the morning to show you.

Ok so its finaly finished...sort of... . here is the tool i used to take the plug out with. I had a hard time with just the ratchet so i made a cheater bar out of a piece of bead frame and a belt. here is the plug the hole and finaly the heater element itself. ...still don't have the wires pluged in. I removed the cooling fan to get access to the plug, that was no big deal. The real problem i have no is the fan does not fit now that the block heater and wires are in place. and i cant seem to move the heater to the other side of the radiator becase of the water pump and other pullies. any ideas on how i can fix this...do i have to find an aftermarket fan to fit in there? do any of you guys that have a block heater like this?...if so i need some pointers. Also the gasket that came with the heater was a pice of crap. a paper type thing that tore on my when i went to tighten the heater element...so i re used the old gasket, tightened it down real good and hope for the best...I did put a bottle of bars leak in the coolent to fill up any leaks. So now its done...will see if it works in the morning...oh and does anyone have some tips on the fan issue...its driving me nuts...the heater is made for my car but dosn't work with the facory fan...
-
yea about that. to get an impact wrech on that you need to remove the radiator...and its not worth that effort for me. that plug is reaally stuck. do you think its possible to get a fatty pipe and make a cheater bar out of it.. its worked for me on axle nuts so im sure it will work for this plug.?

:Dthats why i love my subaru. Its not in the best shape but dang its fun in the snow. My next car will most likely be a newer wagon...ea82 or a first gen legacy. i hope we get more snow...
-
yea i bent the rim real good. I do have another set of 4 or 6 i cant remember anymore back home on the other side of washington. If my dad accuses me of taking up space i just point and remind him of all his crap...

so i drove into spokane to day to look for a tool. I ended up finding many side streets that the plow has not found, it was mass fun. even more snow that when i first made this post. I ended up finding this sweet parking lot and started to make my mark in the fresh snow. but a nice curb stoped me real quick. i left with a destroyed front left wheel. . went to lesshwab and had them swap rims from my spare.

Alright guys. Today was a good day in the subaru world, for me atleast. I drove into Spokane today with one of my room mates to buy some stuff. Coming back i decided to take an laternate route back to my house in Cheney. There was snow coving the enitre road out in the middle of wheat fields so it was just white. but most was plowed. As i crest a small hill there is right hand bend, problem was was that the snow was drifting over the road and i could not tell where it was. My room mate kindly told me that i was not on the road. sure enough the car dipped to the right and i was on my way into a wheat field. But not just any wheat field. there was a good foot and half drop to the field and as i came skidding across the snow i beached the car ( highcenterd it ) in a 2foot or so drift of snow. it was stuck. wheels were spinning and all. so a few minuts later a truck drives by and the guy offeres to help us. sadly the conditions were quite bad and pulling was not an option. as we were thinking of the issue another truck drove buy with 6 college guys in it...i acualy new a few of them. and well they acualy came up with the idea to push my car back and then forward so i could drive up onto the wheat field that wasn't covered in that much snow...as it was drifting the snow didn't acumulate in some spots. Thankfully that workd they pused my suby as i flored it in 4wd, I got to a good spot on the grass pointed the suby to the road and i was home free. no ropes for my suby.. it was great fun. Subarus rock in the snow...even if you get stuck they leave you with many more options than a front wheel drive.
