  1. When I bought my 91 Loyale the check engine light would come on after about 2 minutes of driving. The guy I bought it from said that it was because of a malfunctioning EGR valve and the person that owned it before him had disconnected the little vacuum hose going to it and put a stopper in the hose. The wagon ran fine (except a dirty fuel filter that I replaced) and so I didn't think much of it. So yesterday I had a little time on my hands and was tightening the throttle cable and noticed metal sticking out behind the EGR. The guy had taken a soup can lid and completely blocked off both ports with the lid. I pulled the valve off and checked it out. It still could hold a vacuume, so I figured it wasn't "bad". I took the soup can lot off and there was a perfectly good gasket under it. I slapped the valve back in, reconnected the vacuume hose and drove it for a bit. I didn't notice any difference at all (maybe the exhaust was a bit softer) even the check engine light came back on exactly as it used to. So what was the point I wonder? Any ideas? I bought the car a year ago so it would be a bit awkward to call him up after all this time.
  2. Hey all! So I have a 91 loyale with push button 4WD. And I just purchased an 85 GL with a dual range transmission. I've looked up how to do the swap and it seems "simple" enough. My question is this: what components should I replace while doing the swap while I have everything apart? Nothing is really "wrong", but any ideas on preventative maintenance would be appreciated. I can't shift into first unless I'm at a dead stop, I don't know if that's normal, but I don't remember it being a problem with my 89 loyale. Both vehicles have 170000 miles on them and I don't think anything has been touched.
  3. Thanks for the info GeneralDisorder. I'll drop the trans out of the high milage loyale and slap it in. Get all the good body panels and put them on my "low" mileage loyale. So what does that mean with the ratios being different? I'm sort or a back yard tinkerer. So this is all new to me.
  4. Thanks guys! One last question. On the 83 Leone, he said the transmission wants to start off in 3rd gear. My girlfriend said that it would be awesome if I could fix the auto tranny and let her drive it in the winter since it's 4wd.
  5. Sorry I tried using the search bar and Google, but I can't find a direct answer. I have found a 1983 Leone turbo for sale for $400. It only has 106k original miles on It. It has a bad automatic transmission. I have a 91 loyale coming to me at the end of June I purchased for $70. (Yes a working driving loyale for $70 perfect body and interior) it has 300k on the motor and it burns oil. The The manual transmission was rebuilt or replaced 7k miles ago so it's practically new. Long story short: will a manual transmission from a 1991 loyale w/ push button 4wd fit in a 1983 Leone with an automatic transmission w/ 4wd? Please and thank you! Ps. None of this "use the search bar" stuff. I did. And googled.
  6. Oh I'm so sorry! It's a 1991 Loyale Wagon. Push button 4wd manual. My phone doesn't like this sight for some reason. I thought I put that in.
  7. So I have been a member of this place since about 2007. But I have been gone for so long after I lost my first Subaru, I'd figure I'd reintroduce myself allong with my second subaru! So I drove 4.5 hours to get it off Craigslist. It has a few problems but I hope to get those resolved quickly. First and foremost, the window seals are shot resulting in puddles in the floorboards.I might just drill some holes and touch up paint to help drainage. And the previous owner failed to tell me that the exhaust was rusted through at the brackets resulting in the . He also removed the power steering pump and the ac compressor. But she runs and runs well. It struggles a bit going up hill at interstate speeds. I plan on swapping the oil, air, and fuel filters. Changing the sparkplugs and reattach the power steering pump. After that I'm going to save a bit of money and buy a 2 inch lift kit from Bill on this website. And of course bigger wheels with a fender trim. It has 169000 miles on it but that's practaly new! Anything else you guys can suggest? I'm all ears! Ps: I can't upload pictures from my phone for some reason. I'll upload them later.
  8. Awesome. thanks you all. as soon as i get some money ill try all of that. and if it dont work then ill live with it. thanks again everybody!
  9. Actuality i meant 1989. my finger just slipped. and iv been told by others that it could be the oil pump. but I'm out of money and cant afford to put another one in till about mid summer. and i change the oil every 3000 miles or sooner. this car is my first car iv bought on my own and its my baby. lol. thanks for the tips.
  10. well i couldn't find Rislone engine treatment. but a i asked a friend and he said try Restore engine treatment. iv ran it for a week and it made it quieter. then i had to put it in 4wd to get up a steep hill at work and parked it for 5 hours. when i started it back up it idled really rough and the noise was still there. i drove it about 15 min and when i got home the loud clicking has stopped! but its only silent when I'm in neutral and sitting still. when i accelerate the clicking starts but i think its just because of an exhaust leak. thanks for the advice and as soon as i get a little bit of money I'm going to take it to a mechanic and get the oil pressure checked. thanks again!
  11. OK. I have owned my 1998 Subaru DL (non turbo) for about 3 years. when i got it it was running fine just leaking a little bit of oil and the check engine light was always on. the second summer driving it developed a loud tick under the hood. the sound is coming from the back of the engine near the PCV valve. people have told me various things like it was low on oil, the lifters were bent, oil pump going bad, and other things. well it wasn't low oil. it wasn't causing a problem except being loud. then my grand dad asked me if i have ever replaced my PCV valve. i told him no and so off to the auto parts store i went. i replaced the valve and a few hoses that connected to it and i drove it down the road and noticed something different, the sound was gone and the check engine light was off! it stayed that way for about a week. then i was going down the interstate and for reasons I'm not going to say i went 100 miles per hour for a few minutes. the check engine light came back on and the loud clicking started again. so i replaced the PCV valve again but the sound and light continues. Does any one have any ideas as to what it going on? please help. thank you.
  12. that is really cool! how much r they and can u get one for an 1889 dl wagon?
  13. Hello. let me start by saying theat i know hardly anything about cars. i have owned this car for about 2 years. it was in a highschool auto shop for a long time as a "test car". my car runs just fine exept that it has the TOD. but im 2 broke to get it fixed. but i was thinking about when i get a little bit of money to compleetly restore it. the body hac no damage but a little bit of rust behind the bact tires. the transmition is good and under the hood is ok exept that it leaks a lil bit of oil and coolant. the interrior is ok exept some of the vinel on the doors have chipped off and the AC/Heat ajuster knob sometimes melts on the inside and the clock dont work and wen it does it gets really hot. thats about all the negatives. can someone tell me about how much it would be to compleetly restore it?
  14. This is really cool. i never new this even existed!
