Yeah I think they went pretty cheap, wish I new the brand, was so off one I cant remember, I'm 75% sure its clutch related, if it was the engine I think it would not depend on the speed, and it idles fine, revs perfect etc, just does some odd stuff, I new the prob was getting worse. at first tonight when it did it, I thought the timing jumped, but I think I would notice that and GD knows his stuff. Let me see if I can get the cash, and I will swing by, will bring bearings and hopefully compressor motor.

So i still ahve the rattle noise, well I decided to "slightly" adjust the clutch cable tension, only one full turn on the nut(s), not enough to really be a big diff, well I was driving and the thing started slipping, going about 40mph and it felt like it was trying to throw itself out of gear but couldnt, great well I think something down there is shot, gonna have to park it until I can get some money to have it looked at:mad:

I would change the oil again in a few days, your going to loosen stuff up and odds are the filter its going to get plugged real fast. But DONT forget to do the timing belt, tensioners, idlers water pump, cam seals crank seal, after sitting for so long, you can be sure they are ready to be done and the material they used back then for the cam seals didnt hold up to well, get it at the dealer(along with your WP gasket and thermostat). As for the suspension, replace the ball joints they are only like 10 bucks on rock auto. Good luck keep us informed, as for seafoam, blah, I wouldnt do it, especially on a car that has been sitting for 7 year:eek:

I hate to argue this, given the fact that I am a novice mechanic,...but Seafoam? maybe for a 6cyl or V8, I just dont see the point, I saw a u-tube vid of a subie with it and KA BOOM! rod through the block, just change the oil and replace a qt with MMO run it for like 500-1000 miles, it will clean some of the junk out. Do a COMPLETE timing job reseal it, water pump, radiator hoses etc. Honestly I'd be worried about something from the fuel tank making its way somewhere it shouldnt::-\: sitting for that long eek. And of course a good tune up, filters, plugs +wires. But hey I'm new at Subies:lol:

Thats what I was thinking as well. I know I have at least 1 possibly 2 rattling heat shields, I get the bee hive effect at about 2-3k(stupid brighton has no tach), so I will jack it up at check them out, milesfox has a good idea about hose clamps, so I'll give it a go and see what happens, self tapping sheet metal screws should help too:lol: I HOPE its not the input shaft bearing, that would blow.

So after GD helped me with my timing belt and couldnt here the mystery rattle, I thought it was gone but nope, we confirmed its not a rod or engine bearing, it only makes the sound when your in gear, but if its in neutral and you give it some RPMs its not there, well my guess...time for a new clutch,TOB,fork, and possibly pilot bearing, I can almost guarantee thats the problem, whats funny is the shop that did the clutch said they replaced the TOB:rolleyes: I dont think they did, and the whole job only cost me $475 parts and labor, sooo thinking they did a ************ty job. Time to save up some more $$ just sounds a little low for a "so called good shop".

I recently read something about the 09's 2.5 between June and July they did a recall due to the use of silver in the rod bearings cause catastrophic failure. But if its a recall then don't fret, between 05-09 they are good cars, check the recall list on the national HWY site, at least I think that's it....

Ok so today I took the Lego to GD for help with the timing belt, talk about fast and thorough, its nice when someone goes over everything step by step, now I should be able to tackle it myself @ 200K. The rattle...well its gone, when we did the belts all of the pulleys and the sprocket were actually in great shape, but there was on that was a little worn and spun like a skate board wheel. So I guess it was just a simple timing job that killed the sound:banana: GD went over the car with me, definitely will be getting a new radiator and cooling fans(any one close have some PLEASE I will pay!!!). Take your Subie to GD trust me its worth the drive(bring Fat Tire:lol:) My cam seals were toast, talk about brittle, when the dealer did the belt last time I cant believe they didnt replace them, but now no worry's, hardly any leakage...now I just need to find another EJ22 car to play with...

I think its only got about 70k on it. it is strange that they are starting already, but he also has a nasty tick, I told him to have his valve clearance checked, but I think he just has psychotic injectors:lol: -
So my Buddie has a 04' RS, the head gaskets are starting the ooz, he has been debating about what he should do, he wants to do the franken motor(his is a SOHC) with 2.2 heads, is this possible on a 04? or for more power would cams just be the way to go. And what would really be involved any thoughts?:-\:-\

the e-bay kits are about $80, but....check the importexperts store on e-bay and you can get the complete kit for $125 that includes the water pump! beware go to your local dealer for all the gaskets and seals dont buy the aftermarket ones, the e-bay kits water pump gasket is ************ in my mind, just for ************s and giggles I'd just go ahead and do the HGs while its out, they wont blow for awhile if ever:banana: but since you will have the motor out why not right? get the updated ones from subaru, Ej22s are super strong, that motor will give you many years of service as long as you service it correctly.
