  1. probably had a bad selenoid on the starter, seen it happen many times with chevys
  2. My grandfather has a steel work bench, and being that he worked for GE on turbines has many years dealing with bearings, hell he even had a puller! so I welded a huge old socket onto a 20 ton bottle jack and a flange in the middle of the socket(to not damage the bearings), took some kind of round rubber seal I found in his shop super glued it the the socket and viola!! it worked great!!!, I cut a hole in the bench....yada yada yada it will take me all day for the rest, needless to say it worked.
  3. So my 97 leg 2.2 smells like it may have a leak coming from the exhaust manifold gasket, I purchased some new ones from RockAuto.com! love that place. Hopefully it will do the trick, get to do the bearings on that one as well. its my wifes ride, gonna paint it primer then a light bar on the front. 92 Loyale Wagon 4WD 3AT 97 Legacy Brighton Wagon 2.2 5spd
  4. So my 92 loyale 4wd!! ahha I did the wheel bearings myself! with a little ingenuity I created a press to do the front bearings!! sorry GD, It was so bad I coulnd risk driving it, but now!!! all is well!
  5. the splines dont look too bad, but the bearings are for sure shot, going to do the work myself, I figured I will never learn unless I make the effort.
  6. yeah the splines on the driver side front hub are a little worn, I may buy a new hub as well, my grandfather has the car now and is trying to re machine the hub(he was a machinst for ge for 28 years) hopefully he has good results it wasnt too bad but was showing obvious wear.
  7. Ok, so I orginally thought my loyale had bad wheel bearings, well jacked it up, and guess what I was able to pull the cotter pins with my gerber and loosen the Castle nuts by hand!!!! how the f does that happen. So I put them back on and re-torqued them to 145 FT Lbs as stated in the repair manual. No more sound form the rear, but still have a roar from the front, the CVs are pretty new only less than 20k on them, my guess is the front bearings are truely shot since the nuts were so loose, and the previous owner drove it for god knows how long like that, causing too much play therefore bearing damage. Anyone else agree?:-\
  8. Well...then maybe I'll just sell it, I really dont want to deal with the EA82, and its billion problems or the 3at. any one interested let me know $1,200, 148k, white, no rust, brand new tires, less than 2k. newer CVs(receipts), HGs have been done. still has a good clear coat,Not a single dent on the car, nice little rally bar with lights on the front,Cobra CB mounted on the ceiling,Whip antenna mounted in the front, interior is absolutely flawless(for a 92) just needs new wheel bearings and a tranny flush, wash and wax(if you care) other than that its really a nice looking car just needs some TLC, I really dont want to hassle with it every other month. You pick up cash only.......maybe buy my wife a new 09' OB or somethin.:-\, I'd do a EJ swap but I dont have to cash or the time to do it, plus I have a 4 year old to put through school.
  9. So I just bought a 92 loyale, really good shape, however its weak as hell, and the tranny shifts real funny(it says it does in the manual)3at, I am buying a 94 legacy soon and might just pull the guts from it and do a swap, the 2.2 in the legacy runs like crap so probably a complete engine rebuild, and it has a 5spd, I dont need a DR because its not a wheeling car. How hard is it to do the swap, Obviously the radiator and alot of emission crap as well, but what else is involved, I want it to be a perfect job, not a crappy swap that wil fall apart in a month.
  10. hummm..it could be why its a little tough to start in the morning, it will with the first crank but it is slow, could just need a new batt for the startup juice.
  11. ok so I was told by a friend that I should check the PCV and hoses, along with the CTS, he said that these engines are prone to over heating and you want the CTS 100% perfect, and that the PCV valve should be done at least twice in the cars life. Is he correct?
  12. right on, I keep seeing them on the parts websites just though I'd check into it
  13. edit- the bearings are shot to hell and back. Probably the culprit.
  14. the 58" are gonna stick out pretty far, you could use them to do pull-ups LOL:)
  15. So I know my wheel bearings are going bad, but It seems like I'm only getting around 20mpg! for a 1.8 this is horrible, 92 loyale wagon 4wd 148,000, maybe new plugs and or clean the injectors.
  16. man...that thing needs "a Lot " of work before you should take it out like that, my opinion, lifted, they just are not meant to travel long distances, but thats my opinion. Put an ej22 in it the get a trailer and tow every part and tool you have! LOL just kiddin good luck to ya! it will be fun, besides it brings back memories of working on the car, on the side of a creepy HWY at night, had a guy offer me help once, creepy dude, well lets just say I didnt hang around too long JB weld the water pump and got the hell outta dodge, then 50 miles down the road, had to finally put a new one on( this was a lame 87 T-bird).
  17. I found an entire "brand new" raingutter A1 set with 48" cross bars on ebay for $131
  18. bad cat? egr? new to subies but hey its worth a shot right? PCV VAccum lines maf
  19. Any one try using one of these kits? they look pretty cool, but..........any probs?
  20. anyone have the front windshield weather stripping in good condition at all? I'll pay like $30-$40
  21. My engine bay is damn near that clean on my 92 Loyale, but for that ride!! damn lookin good man!
  22. Sweet! yeah I will let you know for sure, I think I will park the car for a little while till I'm ready so nothing else gets chewed up on it. Hopefully it doesnt need new front hubs either.
  23. sounds good, give me a couple of weeks! I will probabl have a hard time finding the bearing shop so when it is time for me to do them can you pick them up? I'll throw in a case of beer or somethin, $175 is alot better than $500-$700 ! I wish America's tire Factory did more than just tires So yeah we shall do that soon, And your Altima alternator! I may want to do that too if you have one set up and ready at the time, sounds like a badass conversion to me!
  24. I made an appointment with les shwabb tomorrow for them to look at it, the tech said it sounds like the wheel bearings in the front are bad, its would cost me $500 there and $700 if the hubs are bad! good greif hwy robbery!! i will probably have you do them for me if you can, however I'm not at all familiar with the westside of town. I have a buddy who is a tech at Gresham Subaru he may be able to get the parts for cost for me.
  25. its also the 3at tranny as well, and surprisingly yes its not fast by any means but its not too bad I really dont mind it at all.
