  1. All of them looked very white except the one I had replaced last week. It looked like it may have been on it's way though.
  2. All plugs were white except the one I recently replaced. It looked good but may have been on it's way to being white also.
  3. I pulled the plugs and wires again and the plugs from cylinders 1-3 were torched white. I purchased new NGK g-power plugs and replaced all 4 plugs just to see if there would be any change at all. PROBLEM SOLVED! I feel dumb for not doing that before but after replacing the ones that looked bad originally, I didn't think it could be plugs. smh.
  4. Simple enough. Got the cat off the car, gutted it, welded the bung back in and re-installed the exhaust today. Car still runs like crap (different post) but I finally found (and ordered) luggage rack crossbars that allegedly fit as well as a fumoto valve to hasten oil changes. .....baby steps.
  5. MAF checked out. I replaced the oxygen sensor today and gutted the cat (to ensure it wasn't clogged of course). Still runs like shat. Updated repairs thus far- Wires Repl. Plugs Repl. MAF Repl. Fuel filter Repl. Timing checked and reset Crank sensor Repl. Coolant temp sensor Repl. Catalytic Converter "cleaned" Checked for vacuum leaks Throttle Pos sensor Repl. I am completely confused by this. Nothing so far has made the slightest change in the misfire / hesitation.
  6. QD Sway Bar links were easy enough. I still want to shorten the pin shafts and the wire locks so they aren't a snag point. Attempted to change the O2-sensor and the old one came out way too easy.... With the bung attached. Looks like a new cat is going to take priority.
  7. So I just need to mounting brackets off a 97-99 outback and keep the forester arms?
  8. Does anyone know if there's a market for all the stock pieces (spoiler, bumpers, etc.) that I'm removing? If not, I'll just keep everything....just in case.
  9. MAF checked out. O2 sensor is the last ditch before I seriously start considering a swap as an option.
  10. I'm going to try cleaning the MAF to see if there is any change before buying another part. I also have an opportunity to pick up an H6 from an SVX. Any advice on whether that swap would be a good or bad choice would be appreciated. I'm looking at other options in case I can't figure out this ej18.
  11. So far... Had a Subie tech check the timing. It was off by a tooth and was corrected (at no charge other than a 12 pack). Could not find any vacuum leaks Yes I have a gas cap Replaced fuel filter, crank sensor, throttle sensor, wires Possibilities I could see causing issue.... MAF, O2 sensor, Cam sensor, injector...????????????
  12. It is more like flipping a switch at 2500rpm. Have not checked compression but did check the spark. It has a MAF. Would it have a MAP too?
  13. One problem down. Right rear caliper was seized and 95% of "brand new" pads were gone. New caliper and pads made it a little happier. Still has the missing at low rpm problem.
  14. So I pulled the timing cover and it appears to be timed correctly. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! I'm not in love with this car right now.
  15. That's awesome. That thing has one short arse wheel base. Just don't flip it ????
  16. Pics as promised. One upside, the "cool hood" and corner lights swapped direct from the OBS.
  17. I was thinking of doing a color close to that but I figured it would be covered in fingerprints in no time.
  18. Is that a 4wd just? I thought they were all 2wd.
  19. I've seen something about outback trailing arms but I haven't gotten too deep into that part yet. I'm working on the mechanical stuff first. What paint did you use on yours, Jtateam?
  20. I picked up a project from a guy in Southwest Va that gave up on it and bought a wrx. It has its issues but I'm pretty sure most of the hard part is done. He put a forester lift and tires on it as well as front brakes. The rear wheels still don't look centered and it accelerates rough (posted elsewhere). Will post pics soon.
  21. It does not appear to have a knock sensor. I will probably be dropping it at the shop to let them check it out this week. I'm just fed up and inching closer to finding the proper size rag for the gas tank. Thanks for the direction though. I will mention that when I drop it.
  22. I recently picked up a 95 Impreza L coupe with an EJ18. From idle to ~2500rpm it hesitates, jerks, and misses. Once it is above that rpm range, it runs great. I have searched threads for two weeks and tried multiple "standard fixes" with no results. I'm tired of throwing parts at it and Any help would be appreciated. So far I've checked the plugs (newish but looks lean), repl wires, repl fuel filter, repl throttle position sensor. This engine does not have a knock sensor (not that I could find anyway).
  23. The only code that resurfaced since I changed the knock sensor is 0440 which I am aware of the possible issues with. I'll do a tune up and see what happens. Excuse me while I put my rubber arms on and go cuss some spark plugs.
  24. 97 impreza OBS 159k Last time I scanned it, I got - knock sensor, cyl 1 MF, cyl 2 MF, evap(0440). I installed a knock sensor, cleared the codes, and have driven about 150mi. No CEL so far and the car runs much smoother but I am still getting horrible fuel mileage. not just bad but like 12mpg BAD . Any ideas? THX.
  25. If you don't want to put the money into proper body work and paint, and aren't worried about the aesthetics of the quarters, there is a cheaper alternative that won't completely stop the rust but will majorly slow it down. You will need AUTOMOTIVE expanding foam (the home repair type draws moisture), 36grit sandpaper, "ONE STEP" rust converter (I don't trust the other brands), and asphault undercoat or a type of bedliner in a can. sand back past the blisters to expose all the accessible rust. knock off all the loose rust. Brush the one-step on all accessible rust and let dry. shoot just enough foam in the rust holes that is oozes back out. let the foam dry and trim it with a saw blade or box knife. spray the undercoat over all unpainted areas. DONE - ugly as sin two tone quarters that won't allow anymore moisture in. PS. If you are any good with fiberglass, you can skip the undercoat, fiberglass patch the holes, and have a body shop paint the panel. I don't ever advise spray paint due to it's lacking a catalyst and not actually creating a proper moisture barrier.
