  1. hey there i was just at the junkyard here in texas and well i don't know if this helps but i managed to see a mid to late 70's subaru wagon all intack with engine and carb.. i will try to get photos soon.PS minimal rust and its red... the Junkyard is FM 600 wrecking, located in abilene tx.
  2. its the blower/heater/a/c relays i had trouble with those on my 93 loyale sedan
  3. yes you should be able to hear the fuel pump prime the engine, i have a 93 sedan and i always hear the pump run, and even on my carbed 83 sedan the pump can be heard
  4. YEEEEHAW!!! i have finally succeded in achieving perfect fuel mileage i get low to mid 20's in town and 30 to 34 on the hiway, come to find out it was a clogged air filter LMAO how stupid can i be lol. i am running a 10w40 zinc synthetic in the ole beast and seems to me that the car is loving the oil, my oil pressure is better than ever and its using less oil. YEEEEEEEHAW!
  5. question of the day, is it possible to put a 4wd Hitachi disty in a FWD Subaru? because all internals on my disty are pointing to it being Hitachi
  6. here is the word of the day, put a rotor on the car and so far it seems better, if flames could come from the tires they would lol, now just got the fuel filter and cap coming in tomorrow, so we shall see what those do.
  7. well checked air filter and it looks to be good, but sad part is i did research and in our country the ea81 air filters are a special order item
  8. well nothing yet, i'm having trouble trying to figure out how to adjust the weber/carter 1bbl carb, i'm thinking that is the problem cuz there is a light fuel odor coming from the car during driving, and no there isn't a fuel leak i've fixed that, any other possiblitys? its hard to start after i've driven it and it has sat for a bit like 20min or so, it sometimes surges and bucks on me at random times, once you get it up above 1750 it flys i'm totally baffled.history unkown about valve adjustments, i believe its an 83 engine... did i mention IT PURRS when it wants.
  9. hey guys bet your loving all my posts about my 83 subaru lol. Here's the biggest plaguing problem i have with the car..i get rougly 13 to 15mpg all around, have had several suggestions of probable causes: Timing is off, carb is out of adjustment, and my own personal suggestion, the e-brake not disengaging all the way. Here are some facts to keep in mind; the car has plenty of ************ n git power, operating temp is between what i think is 1/4 and 1/2, spark plugs have been gapped to .040, cap and rotor have been checked and cleaned up, no obvious vaccum leaks, carb and choke are perfectly operational, it idles very smoothly. i really love the beast, its awsome to drive, and just totally unconventional one of a kind looking.. Please help me get to the root of the problem, ITS KILLING MY WALLET!!!! P.S I'm going to try a basic tune up but doubt that could be the problem as the plugs still have plenty of electrode and they are Autolite 63's, the only real thing that looks bad is the rotor which i'm going to get.
  10. i'm having issues timing my 83 sedan, i have no timing light and the best mpg i'm getting is 20hwy roughly in town is like 14 at best if someone could show me a pic of where the disty is supposed to be to get optimal mileage that would be awsome...
  11. well it has a new alternator on it and it usually shows 12v unless i have the blower going but not often i do so really no other problems that i know of off hand.
  12. well did check that an all is well its still doing it, now its doing it on a damn near regular basis on heavy enough bumps.
  13. i dont know if i mentioned it or not it is a ea82 not ea82t what is the diff between the dealer pcv n the auto parts pcv? honestly i prolly waited too long on the pcv n blew the rings, or prolly over revved it just a tadd lol
  14. need i say more when i say it smokes like a freight train, blows oil out the intake, n consumes oil.. but it does run and drive still (yeeehaw subaru!) ppl have told me it has a blown ring on the #1 piston because when i detach the #1 wire it doesnt change the way the motor runs at all, it may even at times make it run better. has WAY too much blowby but STILL RUNS! at only 148,000
  15. my 83 GL has no safety switch on the starter, my 92 loyale wagon had one that ALWAYS worked, now the one on my 93 sedan u could oddly enough trick it by smashing the gas a couple times and it'd start with out the clutch in. although i do believe the 93 sedan is haunted by the original owner who passed away n i aquired the car from his demise.
  16. its a 5spd FWD 93 loyale, also if anyone has a ea81 engine they'd consider trading for a low mileage reabuildable ea82 im game LOL. btw do you happen to know the link to to GL-10 ea82t to ea81 coversion thread
  17. hey guys was wondering if it is at all possible to down grade the ea82 in my 93 loyale to a ea81 engine, i have heard to many crappy things about the ea82's and was just curious i have everything to make it work except the spare ea81
  18. here's something wierd that is starting to get to me about my carbed 83 GL FWD 5spd. everytime i go down hill at a decent but not excessive speed n hit a bump in the road the car will stall just like that, but it starts right back up. i'm not overly worried about it, but it is getting annoying as i deliver newspapers at nite in the moutains and i'd like to have my power brakes atleast. what kind of issue or issues could it be?
  19. ill put my 2 cents in prolly don't wanna know it but, here goes, your best option is to ditch the carb an convert it to SPFI, i have weber 1bbl on my 83 GL and honestly i don't like it very much, its got hesitation problems starting issues, personally the carbs are becoming more and more scarce for parts. consider the FI upgrade especially if u offroad alot.
  20. i just purchased an 83 GL and i can pull the keys out while running, not something i personally like, but i do make sure to lock my doors.. i know personally its not hard to break into a subie n steal stuff as it happend to me on my 93 loyale, my saving grace from the car being stolen was it was out of gas LOL
  21. see something wierd is i have some sort of aftermarket cruise control system on my car i(see attached pic)i have also attached better pics of the car.... also wanted to ask, if i wanted to put an aftermarket carb on my 83 subie gl currently equipped with the force feedback carb on it, what kind of carb do i need to look for or what works best for the ea81, yea the carb on the car is peppy but i can't resist modification and making it better.
  22. so what kind of gains am i looking at with doing the spfi swap? btw i have a complete running 93 loyale sedan in my driveway right now lol, and i'm about to buy a whole engine for 190$ for it as the #1 piston is blown. so i have everything but the wiring and computer covered.
  23. how much would u want for the hitachi intake setup?? i'm all for bettering the car lol.. so there is no real power gains from swapping from a 1bbl to a 2bbl... Explain to me more about the SPFI swap, what all does it entail and roughly how much does it run and what all do i need to do it besides the obvious intake and TBI unit and computer.
  24. hey guys i have a few questions about the carb on my 83 GL sedan 5spd 2wd. first off,it is a weber/carter and is it classified as a 1 or 2bbl, and secondly if it is a 1bbl is it possible to upgrade it to a 2bbl hitachi? if its not possible, or just plain better to leave the carter/weber on how do i adjust the cold idle and what nots. it is running like utter crap, it cold idles at around 3k or so, warm idle its barely making 500 and it sputters and stalls quite frequently while warm. its hard to start warm, starts really easy cold, i usually have to hold the pedal to the floor to get it to start warm and sometimes it takes quite a few cranks to get it to stay running, i need serious help i am seriously beginning to miss my TBI ea82 lol. also i've already cleaned the carb with carb n choke cleaner, and i've also ran berryman's b12 thru it and that helped a little bit, (used it before on my 88 justy gl and dl) any type of advise would be most helpful this is my VERRRRY first carbed ea series subie, and this is also my first ea81, Scottie
  25. i took the brand new alternator from my 92 loyale wagon and put it on my 83 GL sedan noticed a slight difference, the only thing different is that the older 80's (ea81s) have a 55amp alternator and the ea82's have a 60amp. by the way i'd like to hear more about this maxima alternator compatibility myself, what year maxima's we talking bout here?
