  1. Thank you for your response. I was locked out of my account for a few days. I did buy the car. Love it. Only thing i'm looking at fixing is to find a factory radio to replace the aftermarket unit in there. I'll be searching the buy and sell forums next. Thanks again,
  2. Hi all. Drove DL’s and GL’s for years until I couldn’t replace the body’s and gave up on them Now I’ve been offered at 2011 forester 2.5 NA and am seeking some advice. As I was always haunted by the timing belts, I was pleased to read that this 2011 engine (code??) runs a chain. Is this true? Can the membership here let me know if any noted problems this car has? I was on this forum for many years and learned EVERYTHING there was to know about the loyale cars and am sure that you all have much to offer regarding the newer cars. Thank you in advance for the help. Aloha!
  3. So I've been looking high and low to replace my 88 wagon when I come across a 92 justy. It's a 4 door hatch with AWD? I'm guessing 4x4 with a push button?. Is that the most common for a five speed? After doing some reading I would have liked to try out the ecvt. The body looks good. I know nothing about these cars other than the engine isn't flat like it should be. Can I put my new rims& tires from my gl wagon on a justy? Anyone have any justy buying tips. Are they a nightmare? I can do anything on my gl wagon but don't want a headache. Thx all Marko
  4. I average 7.3 - 7.5 L/100km at 95% highway driving. No cat. My best tank was 800km on a trip. I think I worked it out to 6.7L/100km. 88gl dr wagon.
  5. Well the wheel dragging idea may hold some water. Today on the drive home I heard the tell tale sounds of a bad wheelbearing. I'm not gonna be driving it to work tomorrow. Maybe Its the answer to my mystery. Thx
  6. Thx for the replies. I'm filling up at the same pump as always. So I don't think it would be a change in the fuel. I also changed the thermostat to a 192F unit. Can't see that making a big difference though. I think I'll need to change the water pump. But that doesn't make sense either. I wonder if the timing belts are too tight . Maybe that would be a possible cause. Although I can't see that being the problem. Marko
  7. Ive noticed a sudden drop in mileage in my spfi ea82 wagon. From as low as 6.7L/100km up to as high as 9L/100 km. Just did timing belts. Switched 20-50 oil to 5-30 for the cold weather. Can't figure it out. Any thoughts or suggestions? Sorry to be brief. I just typed out a long post but by iPhone lost it and this is my second kick at this cat. Thx for the help. Aloha!
  8. I used a stethoscope to check the tensioners and both sounded the same(ish) Unlikely that both would fail at the same time. I sprayed some silicone lube on the belts and noticed an immediate improvement. then, during a short test drive the sound returned. I think there will be a break in period on the belts. (I hope) None the less, I love the ea82. No bent valves and an hour to change the two belts! The body will fall off of this car before the drive-train dies. Now to find a new GL wagon body! Thanks for all the suggestions! Marko
  9. I think you may be right. I sprayed some silicone on the belts and noticed an improvement right away. I took the car for a test drive and the whine returned. I also checked the tensioners with a stethoscope and they were the same. Not likely they both went bad at the same time. I just wish I would have spun the tensioners with the belts off to test them. Good for another 100k km's. Whoot! Thanks for the replies!
  10. So I threw some new timing belts on My ea82. On my test drive I barely noticed a bit of a whine from under the hood. Increasing with the revs. I don't recall this ever before. I will use a stethescope to listen to the tensioners but wonder if new timing belts may have a break in period that may cause the whine. Any thoughts? Thanks
  11. Spent an hour today after work and replaced my timing belts. It helps when you don't have belt covers. I do notice a different sound under the hood now. A high pitched whine that's barely noticeable. I don't recall this ever happening before. I wonder if it's just the new belts breaking in? And, yes, it was the noobie switch. U couldnt see the rear lights on when i first noticed it. I was rushing to an appointment. I must have bumped it as I climbed out of the passenger window when I broke down. I haven't even touched that switch for maybe 10 years. Kinda forgot it was even there. I don't remember it overriding the hazard lights though. Overall, I'm pleased with how it all worked out.
  12. As I suspected I threw the drivers side timing belt. First time I've ever needed a tow! One thing is confusing me though. I had my hazard lights on for maybe an hour and noticed that the fronts were not blinking. When I shut off the car the front marker lights stayed on. I had to pull the battery cable. This is the first sign of electrical weirdness I've ever had in this car. Has anyone come across these symptoms before?
  13. I thought I'd add that this is the first time this wonderful car has failed to get me to my destination. Long live my GL wagon!
  14. Hi all, I'm looking for a heads up with my GL. On my way home on a very hot day today. Engine knocking/pinging like it dies when it's really hot. Engine shudders and loses power then dies as I attempt to pass a trucker. When I turn the engine over it's really lumpy. I think it's a timing belt that's slipped but too dangerous on this busy road to diagnose. I don't run with timing covers and have done this fix roadside before but far too dangerous today. Wrecker is hooking me up now to get me home but thought I'd get a head start on the fix. Any thoughts? Am I way off base with the timing belt slip? Thanks for the help all! Marko
  15. I'm wondering if you still havve the wagon for sale.

    Let me know!

  16. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=38290 Here it is I tkink. I'm trying this on my phone. I dont think it makes a great difference on mileage but it didn't hurt. If you search around you'll find more than you'd ever imagine! Cheers!
  17. Never use the ethanol. Mid or high test gas in the summer. Keeps it from pinging. Some fancy crankcase gas plumbing. There are some threads on here About pcv re-burn setups. I used a peanut butter jar. And some grandpa like driving. I've been doing 700/tank lately with a really dirty air filter but I'll get it up to 800 again.
  18. Great price. $9 I think it was with tax. I'm sure the filter will more than pay for itself in a couple weeks. My commute is near 800 km/week. I'm hoping to get it down to one tank/week. I did have this car running 800km/tank a few years ago but she's gettin tired.
  19. Hey Dallas.

    Yeah, no friends here. Lol

I've been away for a few years. My Sube has been parked for four years but I dusted it off and need all sorts of help again.

Can you do connections like that? I'm clueless. Things have changed a bit around here

  20. well I lucked out and found a filter that fits properly without splurging for the K&N. I talked to a smaller store here and they hooked me up with a Viper 42136. never even heard of them before but it fits like a glove. Also, I notice that it is the same number as the Wix application so I'm guessing that the wix option should work if it can be found. I asked the gal if it's a regular stock option and she told me that they keep one in stock normally. I'll go back in a week or so and get another and I should be good for another 50k if the car lasts that long. I was pretty freaked out when the dealer told me they didn't stock them anymore. Getting worried that I would have to get creative.
  21. Hi All, So I called around for a new air filter for my 88 gl wagon FI (EA82) today and to my horror, I can't seem to find one. I've tried my local part stores and even my subaru dealer. Special order and at least 4 weeks to arrive????? I'm told that it's because of the Earthquake/Tsunami. ouch! So my question is, does anyone have cross reference numbers for the filters? I tried the Fram CA4303 according to my local part stores. Didn't fit! I'm thinking if it's a hassle to get these anymore, I'd just spring for a K&N or AFE filter so I'd never have to go through this again. I used to buy the Canadian Tire filter option PN#23-3102-6 and it fit great. There was a soft rubber border that sealed up well and I was able to close the air box. So what have you all been using these days for filters in your EA82's?
  22. Omg that's funny. Yes, it was a nice car. It had lots more power than my ea82. It was a much better ride..... It was however a bit quirky, not great on fuel, and not a cinch for the 'family' car. I did not know about the rarity of the car though. Had I known it would have sold so easily if I didnt like it I would have bought it just to drive for a while and get to know the ej motor. I'll just keep looking. I always had a H6 outback in mind. We'll see.... Marko
  23. The car sold for $3500 shortly after I looked at it. I was surprised. The owner did ring me and let me know. The body was in decent shape. Not very much rust, just a few small spots, but full of dents and scratches. Windshield was toast and leaking in the lower corner. Sunroof was broken and leaking in one corner. CV joint was a clicker. Quite a bit of wind noise/rattles in the car. Engine seemed sound. Pulled ok. Less than I expected though. The owner told me the fuel mileage and I wasn't impressed at all. 400 km/tank == about 12L/100km. My 365hp pickup gets 14 on the highway. I was planning to make an offer tomorrow of $2800. Didn't want to insult the guy but I honestly did not think that car would sell for that kind of money. Oh well, I hope the new owner (already had a mid 90's legacy) is happy with it. I'll just keep running up the mileage on my 88 GL wagon. Till the body falls off anyway! Thanks for all your help everyone. At least I learned a little in the process! Marko
  24. Going to look at the car this morning. Right off the bat I'm told that there are cracks in the windshield and sunroof. He also mentioned that a cv joint needs to be replaced. I'm thinking that $3600 is WAY too high of a price for this car. I'm going to have a look across Canada and compare prices for this model and newer. Wish me luck.
  25. great! Thanks for the replies everyone. So the auto trans is an issue? I like the auto because the wife can drive it if nessasary but have never owned a sube with an auto. Other than check for burnt fluid, what can I do to identify a bad auto tranny? Road test and punch it in a higher gear? As for the timing belt, that's why I like the 2.2. Non interfierence is a big seller. How about the head gaskets? Heads? I've heard the EA82T's have issues with HG failures and cracks between the valves. Same in the EJ22T? Any other tidbits? What about the turbo? I have no turbo experience. Don't know what to look for. They want 3600 for the car so I don't think it'll go too quickly but I'd like to have a close look tomorrow. Thx
