Did this tow damage my Outback?
salve7 replied to subaru87's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou have to be careful with the tow truck folks. Some of them don't have a clue. I had my land rover on a flat bed once and the driver was trying to tie down the frame. Every time he pulled, my air suspension would trigger on and he almost popped my bags before I saw what he was doing. On any given game day in Knoxville you can watch the vultures dragging cars all directions for a tow bill. We sit on the porch and yell mean things to them, it makes us feel better. More than likely your car will be "fine" but I would still call AAA and tell them you didn't appreciate it and that you need another "incident" or whatever they call it added to your card.

Looking for instructions
salve7 replied to salve7's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for all of the replies. The assembly I have already has a used bearing in it so that shouldn't be a problem unless it sucks as well. It was only $25 though so I'm not too worried. Thanks for the link to the instructions, that was exactly what I was after. I'll have to think about doing it myself though... I can get it done for less than 80 so it might be worth it. Anyways thanks again!

Looking for instructions
salve7 replied to salve7's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes that is it. The knuckle... Now how do I put it on? Is it as straight forward as unhooking abs, removing caliper, various arms and legs to undo then reverse?

Looking for instructions
salve7 replied to salve7's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah my bad, all of the other forums have my info in the sig. It is a 97 Legacy OB and I am kinda confused as well as to what it is called. It is the hub assembly with the bearing and nothing else that I can tell. Edit: Part of the reason I was wanting a diagram is so I could tell what all I have...

Looking for instructions
I am going to see if I can replace my right front spindle but I do not have any resources other than a PDF file that says nothing about it. I could prob just figure it out, but when I do that I usually wind up with extra bolts and I don't really want my wheel falling off... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Jay

Another wheel bearing thread
salve7 replied to salve7's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUhhh... Whoops... Anyhow, I called some guy in south corolina so we will see how this works out. I've had to do this alot with land rovers but it seems like there are more resources. Got one with 90,000 miles for less than fifty shipped with a 30 day warranty so who knows how that will go. The guy had 43 of them. Thanks, now I need to figure out how to put it in. I'll check and see if it's in my PDF but it kinda skims some stuff.

Another wheel bearing thread
salve7 replied to salve7's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for the replies. On that link that you gave I only saw RH (I am assuming it means right hand) so I am assuming that would not work on the left side. The shop quoted me 110.00 for the bearing and said it would take about 4 hours so their estimate was 400.00 and something (including realignment). I would like to avoid that if possible I will keep looking around and have contacted a parts guy I have used before so I will keep trying. Does anyone have a resource that shows the spindle, hub and bearing if I decide to tear into it myself?

Another wheel bearing thread
(97 OB Legacy) My front right wheel bearing is going and I have read on here that I should just replace it with a used spindle/ hub assembly. I am confused as to what I need to get ( http://www.car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?userSearch=int&userPID=1000&userLocation=USA&userIMS=&userInterchange=BE%3F%40F&userSide=&userDate=1997&userDate2=1997&dbModel=70.6.1.1&userModel=Subaru%20Legacy&dbPart=538.1&userPart=Hub&sessionID=200000000000000000307029966&userPreference=year&userZip=37862&userLat=35.7829&userLong=-83.6103&userIntSelect=581435&userUID=0&userBroker=&iKey=&userPage=15 ) this is a list of the parts from car part but I don't know which one or if there is a better option. Any help is appreciated! Jay

Tire ?? that I can't find an answer for.
I've been searching this site for over an hour trying to find the maximum size tire I can get away with without a lift on my 97 OB Legacy. OEM is 205-70 with the 15 inch rims, can I run a size bigger? Can anybody point me towards resources or personal experience? Thanks Jay

98 Legacy OB keyless entry - should it chirp?
salve7 replied to revox's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI was wondering the same thing when I got a remote. I noticed a connector unplugged near the remote ecu so I thought it might be it but I haven't checked. I also don't have the alarm. I am interested to hear some replies... I know with my old rover that you had to have the stealership program it into the car with a testbook...

This subject has prob been beat to death but...
I don't know if I have a 2.5 dohc or a 2.2 sohc... I am sure there is an easy way to tell but all my internet searching has found nothing (well something but I'm still confused). Any help would be appreciated by this newbie. I have an 97OB Legacy. Thanks, Jay

Bubbles in the overflow tank?
salve7 replied to Legback's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI believe you can get bubbles by not bleeding the air out of the the coolant system but this might not be your case since you didn't completly drain it. I know that my shop here in town did the combustion gas test for free but that might be because he had dollar signs in his eyes as he knows I only take my cars there...

Looking for a diagram
Does anybody know where I can find a detailed/ exploded view of the rear hatch lock mechanism for a 97 OB? every manual I have downloaded seems to be lacking this feature. Oh and for anybody that has doene a full swap was it hard to "rekey" or whatever you call it to make my regular key work and will there be any problems with the remote lock? Thanks Jay

Bubbles in the overflow tank?
salve7 replied to Legback's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI got confused and posted this elsewhere but have you had the coolant checked for combustion gases? I would try that before tearing it apart again. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=117971&page=2

'97 Legacy will not start
salve7 replied to Mikevan10's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust a random suggestion but if you have to pay over $80 for a tow you should just call AAA and sign up for one of their packages. I got the the plus package for $99 and it will let me have 3 tows/ service within 200 miles. I got it when I bought an old Land Rover and didn't want to pay $150 to tow it to my house. You can activate and use it in the same day. I am not affiliated with AAA but hate to pay huge tow bills. Hope this helps someone, since I own Rovers I know a thing or two about tow bills :0

Newbie askin some HG ????
salve7 replied to salve7's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHad the HGs, timing belt, water pump, belts, and thermostat installed and now things are running "smoothly" again. Thanks again for the help! The OEM HG were actually cheaper than the ones they were going to use.

Rear Hatch lock problems
salve7 replied to salve7's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHere is a link to my picasa account with some pics. Im not sure if they show enough however... When removing the back, interior panel is it held on with those brittle plastic pieces? If so are they special order from the stealership or can I get them at an auto store? http://picasaweb.google.com/coldfrankie/Subaru#
