  1. ok so my parts store cant seem to get me the right coolant temp sensor. the car runs ok when its cold, but when it is drivin vary far it gets real boggy and the engine light comes on so im figuring its the cts. they keep giving me the wrong one. i have a 88 GL 10 wagon with the 1.8 liter no turbo.
  2. yeah i know where it is, i can read it right now but i cant find any connectors that arnt already plugged in. and what do you mean by identification code?
  3. well, the ecu light just flashes 7 times and pauses, and just keeps repeating the 7 time flashes, and there is no number 70 or number 7 in the code read up they gave me. and i found 2 small clear connectors by the drivers side fire wall, but they didnt make a difference in the flashing sequence. thats the motor side of the fire wall by the way
  4. cant seem to check the engine light?? thread says the connectors are to the right of the steering wheel, i have no non connected wires in sight. nothing at all? need to get it runnings. whats going on?
  5. im still having trouble with mine, but it runs, just wont run past quarter throttle and the engine light pops up. what i did to check the fuel pump was leave the filter off, and see if fuel comes pouring out, and for it not to run with putting fuel in the throttle body, i would say spark or compression for sure. cause mine fired right over even tho my dad threw way way too much fuel in it.
  6. the fuel filters on these things are pretty nice to get to, its just right by the firewall on the driver side, and just take it off, and make sure you can blow through it fairly easily. and people have been telling me to check the coolant temp sensor? does the engine light come on?
  7. you might want to clean the maf sensor as well. i bought some special cleaner for not a whole lot, and they get covered in oil from that breather coming in from the valve covers.
  8. there is 2 vacuum lines going to the throttle body that fell off, but it still doesnt run after i put them back on.
  9. so when i took it out on our property and was roddin the hell out of it it seems to do ok on the top end, but the bottom just doenst exist. and the engine light starts flashing at me, so i think the sensor is real bummed out at me or something.
  10. oh man forgetting that spacer would really make a day.
  11. yeah luckely my dads got a decent shop with a few tools in it, so there is usually all kinds of junk laying around i can make into a tool haha
  12. mines fuel injected, and it worked like a real champ. and the mas air flow sensor is on the intake tube, and there is a connector going to it. mine wont even run with this disconnected. it just dies immediately.
  13. thanks, when i was trying to get the bearing in, it was going in crooked, so i just some how thought of this ider.
  14. so my 88 GL with the 1.8 natural asparated will run and idle, but when you try to apply hardly any throttle it bogs out and dies. my fuel filter is good, and i just cleaned my MAF sensor. and the engine light comes on after a min or so.
  15. mine is doing the same thing. make sure your MAF sensor isnt all plugged up, and pour some fuel in the throttle body and put the intake back on and see what that does. cause mine runs fine for like 1 mile after i do that, and it dies. mine currently runs, but if you try to apply more than 1/4th throttle, it boggs out. also check your fuel filter.
  16. oh boy, haha but yea it worked great. got her back together.
  17. so i get real annoyed when i have to beat on stuff. especially when its hard to beat evenly on something and i was too lazy to take it all the way off, so i made a little press type deal and it worked really good incase anyone wants to do what i did. i just used a long bolt, and found some big washers that worked with the old bearing. and i ground the old bearing down a little bit. and had a plate on one side. when i put the bearings in, i tightened the bolt, and it sucked the bearings right in.
  18. oh man i wish i would have read your guy's posts before going to the parts store. i paid 20 bucks a bearing. the seals are real cheap tho. they had to order one in for me and its gonna be here to day so we will see how it goes. i got them out easily without taking that whole assembly off. and i have one of the bearings in the freezer, and ill be sure to put the other one in when i get it.
  19. so my car was making a nasty clunk and griding noise, and i thought it was the cv axle at first, and now i have found out its one of the wheel bearings as it is coming out in pieces. it appears there is 2 bearings on that assembly that holds the end of the cv axle, and its the inner one that is shot. how do i get a new one in?
  20. so, an update on that. took it for a little drive, and it just died on me and it tried to start for 2 or 3 cranks than just wouldnt start anymore.
  21. i know its got a lean burn, but i dont know why it would. where does the coolant temp needle usualy sit while running? (wish they actually had numbered gauge) mine is like 1/4th inch above cold. and where is the engine temp sensor? and no its just the base 1.8 liter model, naturally aspirated.
  22. so i think the front diff is going out. it makes some real bad griding noises and it leaks fluid. any ideas? checked cv axles and they are fine. it also dosnt run very good. i changed the fuel filter, air filter is good. cleaned the maf sensor, re routed the breathers so my intake isnt sucking oil, ran seafoam through it, checked the o2 sensor, and put new plugs in. the engine light comes on after driving for just a little bit. and also, i pulled my new plugs out after driving it maybe 10 miles, and the plugs are solid white. whats going on here?
